Anyone else going through a weird anti-tactical phase?

yup, just traded my M4 flattop with BUIS and foward grip for a good ol M16A2 today. Course then again i'm heading to USMC boot in 2 weeks and that could be why

Some shooters are really enamored with the gadgets associated with the sport. Certainly nothing wrong with being a gadget guy. However, the internet is overrun with 'experts' that believe you need the latest gadgets to be an effective shooter. For many, equipment has become an obsession and is more important than the actual shooting. I just like to shoot and prefer the appearance of traditional weapons.

Heck, it isn't a "phase" with me. I'm too old for that. I've never liked the tacticool look or "features."

Just gimme wood and blued steel. :)

I like 'em all. I wish I owned them all. I wish I owned all the guns in the world. Tactical. Antique. Modern conventional. I like 'em all.

Solomon(wisest man in the Bible) said there is a time for everything. There is a time for quick detachable hi cap mags and a time for long distance long barreled bolt guns. Even tacticool shooters should be kept simple as possible. If it can break, malfunction, or jam it will when needed the most. Why trust your life to some gadget that you can do better without. If the lines are clean it cannot snag onto something and break or get off "zero". If the lines are clean it is not so heavy or bulky. All that junk on some even hide what the shooter looks like. That is not cool but foolish. Just an accident waiting to happen.

Anyone else going through a weird anti-tactical phase?
I don't think I went through a Pro-Tactical phase, so .............No.

Defensive guns are black, safe queens are stainless. Rifles are as usual, shotgun is, okay, tactical, and very mean looking.

I will immediatly replace the 4x20 scope on my A3 upper rail with an A2 carry handle with a 50mm red dot mounted to it. No rails on the free float tube, time to break out the electrical tape for the cheaper than dirt bargin basement laser.

I can appreciate the utility of the plastic stuff, but still like the look/feel of blue or stainless and wood, be it in handguns or rifles.

I did the tactical thing and felt silly. I have never encountered the need to be tactical at a range. Now, all of that being said. I prefer guns over accessories. Maybe someday I will have all the guns I need and want to get fancy stocks, lights, toaster ovens, etc...

I've never gone for "tactical". Black, plastic, "accessory rails"....ugh... I feel the same way about all the Trademarked RealWood BarkTree camouflage EVERYTHING, and the hunting TV shows with heavy metal music, and the "hunters" who get such a "rush" from killing the 30 pointer....Not much class anymore.

Nope, currently looking for a Colt 6940. In recent years after getting the Black Rifle sickness, I have enjoyed shooting more than ever. Quite simply the black rifle has put the fun back into shooting for me.

Being "tactical" has more to do with the shooters training, not the look or color of the equipment.

I don't know if I'd call it tactical, but I like modularity. I like to be able to dress my weapons with appropriate accessories for their intended use. That said, you won't find me hanging a tactical spork from my AR anytime soon. Sometimes less is more.

I do appreciate weapon lights on SD/HD weapons. I'm all for collapsible/adjustable stocks on weapons that will be maneuvered in cramped quarters. Rails are great on guns when you'll actually need to hang something off of them.

I still love my BP colt army, my stock wwII mauser, and all my non-tactical firearms.

I can't figure how soldiers somehow became "operators".
They "operate" a plan?

They "operate" hardware?

Anybody can be an "operator."

No gadgets for me unless they substantially improve my marksmanship, manipulations and fighting capabilities, and they integrate well with my existing techniques, hardware and other weapons.

AR15/M4 gadgets:
*Railed forends - not for me.
*Laser sight - not for me.
*Vertical handgrip - not for me.
*RediMag - not for me.
*Bipod - not for me.
*Aftermarket muzzle brake or flash suppressor - not for me.
*Molle gear, vests, etc. - not for me
*Flip up front sight - not for me

*Tritium front sight - yes
*MagPul Enhanced Trigger Guard - yes (fills the gap nicely - no blisters)
*MagPul Battery Assist Device - yes (I use it to lock open the bolt only)
*Red dot optic - maybe (I have an Aimpoint ML3 on one of my M4s but I prefer iron sights)
*Weapon mounted illumination device - yes
*ITW Fast Mag - yes
*Flip up rear sight - yes (to facilitate the Aimpoint ML3)
*PRI Big Latch-Military (Weenie) or similar charging handle assembly - yes

Handgun gadgets:
*Tritium sights - yes
*Weapon mounted illumination device - maybe (depends on situation)
*Laser sight - not for me
*Extended control levers - not for me
*Ambi control levers - not for me

All my platforms are similarly equipped. If one M4 has a gadget then all my M4s have that gadget.

Cheers!

My Garand convinced me I'm not a black rifle guy, so I sold my Sig 556. My next rifle will be it's offspring, an M1A. :D

While its alwasy nice to have a good tactical rifle (and a badass looking shotgun) I'd still prefer something more traditional. Don't really care for the black plastic, I'm not really a fan of plastic at all. Metal is practical, and wood looks good :)

The most tactical stuff I have is I recently got a bipod for my rifle (bolt action of course) and I've had ammo holder things that slide over the stocks. The only other thing I currently want is a decent pistol grip for my mossberg, but with a shoulder stock. They're hard to find for less than $80 though :/

But firearm-wise, the next thing I'm gonna buy is either a revolver or a break-action double barrel shotgun :D just depends on which one I can find first.

I want that Nagant!
Personally, traditional looking rifles has been all I could afford...until now. Not saying that wood and steel weapons are cheap, but surplus has been most available for me. What gets me is when kids (umm what? dosen't that apply to me?) I guess I'm saying inexperienced shooters who think that accuracy can be bought with a $9000 rifle all tricked out (not to mean I'm bashing these weapons!). It can be quite entertaining
witnessing the looks on their faces when when show them up with long range hits with lets say a K31, Mauser or like rifle after they dissed your rifle as an "old piece of crap." I love black and plastic weapons. I honestly hate the look of traditional AKs but drool over the ak100 series. I even thought of going tactical with my Marlin 336. It just really bugs me when people bash great traditional rifles.

OUCH on that Nagant!:what: I don't even want to image what that sounds like!

I think that the "Tacticool" is just now reaching an even balance.

Personally, I could care less about the tactical stuff. I like to keep my stuff simple. Wood on my shotguns and bolt action rifles. My black rifles are in iron sight configuration since I'm not going to bother with scopes for them. Remember the KISS principle.
