Anyone, Besides Me, Wanting to De-Tacticalize?

Send em to me. I love ARs, Glocks and all the rest. I love my Sigs.

I have about 10 ARs in different configurations from specialized poodle guns to my exact replica of an M4 on an SBR.

Also on another SBR, I have the 10.5" barelled gun. I love ARs

Strategy & Tactics is between the ears, not some physical object.

I never got "into" tack-tickle as is often defined today. I have one, black firearm period, a Kel-Tec P-11. If I were to have another plastic gun, my first pick would be for a Rem Nylon 66, with the brown nylon, blued metal and the butt fed model.

I kept the P-11s after being involved in some T&E for some folks, as they fit a niche.

I do not own a locking knife, one with one hand assist, pocket clip, with thumb stud or any of that. Some years ago, by request, I did some testing and evaluations on some of these, therefore I did edc these. I gave back those sent to me, and gave away the Leek and something else I bought and paid for myself.

The AR I would want, is one that has great sentimental value to me. Colt M16A1 bone stock.
It ain't the gun , instead the Mentors and Elders that gave me these, and mine were destroyed by fire.
It is the attachment to these folks, folks I miss every damn day, not tactical.

Black is not a very good color at all for being stealthy. The first ARs, I understand were gray. So I would prefer a gray , dark gray, or a "burlap brown".
Re: Coyote brown.
We were doing "burlap brown" and "farm/ranch dawg brown" before folks were a itch in their daddy's britches , going on about all this tactical camo crap.

Re: Camo
Never used it, never needed it, and it was not around when coming up, so I don't own any, and would not use it if I had it given to me.

I own one pair of black britches, Dickies. I am in a setting sometimes that black britches are the dress code. A really stupid color and dress code.

I own one pair of black shoes, Shoes For Crews [tm], as "risk for falls" is something everyone should be concerned with, no matter what age. I wear these with the black pants, as the risk for falls is a concern due to settings with wet floors.

Shoes For Crews, are a "strategy and tactic" tool in the toolbox, as I have used these and recommended these for some time now.
My brain say's "you can bust your butt in this setting" so the Software dictated the hardware, these shoes designed to resist slipping.

Men and women styles, from athletic, to more dress. Nurses, Doctors, Security, Cops, EMTs, Restaurant workers, Cleaning Crews, ...etc.

I can't go back from tack-tickle as I never went there in the first place.
I stayed true to what is true and correct, how raised, and how mentored.

Thanks Mentors,

In my experience the vast majority of the tacticool guys are in their twenties, with a smattering into their 30s.

The grownups tend to prefer revolvers and bolt action rifles.

HTH!

I have a little over a decade on you and agree with you. Eventhough, I have not tactilized? my stuff, finding and using one of the older comfortable designed firearm gives me a unique enjoyment. Using one of the plain jane rifles or handgun and shooting so that there is a nice tight group, or hitting a small target offhand is more satisfying to me. I have a AR but it only has a reflex sight added-older eyes. Yes I love playing with my SKS. No, I am not going to sell anything-the kids will get everything, but I almost laugh lwhen out at the range, I see the young all decked out youngsters with their decked out SHTF weapons getting no where near the groups that I get with the old comfortable or unadorned firearms. Actually if the target is sometimes hit, they are excited. Remember, beware of the man who only has one firearm-he will know how to use it.

How do I de-tacticalize Garands, Carbines, and Mausers? What about 1892 Winchesters? Or 1873s? I also may need help with the Stevens 311s?

There's no plastic to get rid of. No pistol grips. No shoulder thingies that go up. So how are they de-tacticooled? Will the same process also work on Enfields, M-Ns, K31s, and H&R single barrels?

Please help, give me some guidance.:D

And don't let me forget the Trapdoors. I need help with them also.

Wyman

Never did care for plastic and aluminum. Always been a walnut and blued steel kind of guy. Revolvers, 1911, bolt action milsurp. To each his own. It's a big world and we're all different.

I feel kind of the same way.

The only "tactical" firearms I want to hold onto are my Glocks simply because a) they are great for IPSC b) they are very utilitarian for CCW.

My Mini-14 ranch rifle borders on being "tacticool" but I consider it a ranch rifle.

Beyond that, I'm really just wanting double-action revolvers, side-by-side shotguns, and a bolt/lever action rifles. Throw in a single-action revolver and I could do Cowboy 3 gun. :)

I am done buying guns for a while, just want to focus on ammo and accessories. If I do start collecting again, I really want to get double-action revolvers for both aesthetic considerations and CCW. The S&W M40, the Ruger SP101, and the Ruger Redhawk all look really appealing to me.

An AR-15?.... eh, I don't really see the need for one since I have a Mini-14 - and the mini-14 is a lot less "aggressive" looking. I like the handling of it better, it's more reliable, and in my hands basically as accurate. Not a knock on those who own ARs, but I prefer the more traditional Mini-14.

God as my witness, when I read the first two paragraphs of the OP, I thought to myself, "Hmmm, this guy just hit the big 50." Don't worry, I think it's normal.

I won't have to de-tacticalize but only because I could never afford all the stuff that I thought was really cool in the last 20 years or so. Now I find myself looking at all the tactical stuff and say, "WTH was I thinking?" I'm pushing 60 though. I'd still like to try a set of Crimson Trace laser grips once, though

Re: Geritol.

Strategy and Tactics includes putting Jim Beam in a Geritol Bottle or Smith Bros Cough Syrup bottle ( preferred) for Veterans attending a ball game, going to the bigger city to hear a politician speak, or having to go to a dry county for a play a granddaughter is in.

Recycling?
Nothing new, folks been saving and reusing Geritol, Cough Syrup, and other containers for a long long time.

Nagging coughs, and just a sip will do ...

*wink*

You want me to take the light off my home defense shotgun because it is too tactical?

No, the way I read it he wanted to take the light off of his own.

I don't see any reason to choose sides. Guns are weapons, and there is something deep in human nature that connects to finely crafted, aesthetically pleasing, beautiful weapons.

The only thing that changes is what we consider beautiful. One year it's endless engraving and inlaying of precious metals, the next it's anodized titanium, the next it's war-worn but strong and capable diamonds in the rough, then encrustations of semi-precious stones, then... it's always changing.

The only people I pity are the unlucky souls who can only find beauty in one style. The people who only listen to classical music, only listen to hip-hop, only like luxury sedans, only like pickup trucks, only like black rifles, only like blued steel revolvers.....

Anyone, Besides Me, Wanting to De-Tacticalize?

I tried for several years to stem the growing tide of 'Mall Tacti-Cool' hardware as I saw it...
57 pounds of junk hanging off every available space on the rifle was just too much for me,

And besides, it's all for people that don't know how to use the basic sights anyway...

But now I've reversed that position.
I work with CNC machining every day, with guys that develop some of the strangest stuff for the Navy you have ever seen!
They can mount a 'Picatinny' rail on your mothers hair berets if you let them!

So now, when no one is looking, I load the machine, push the button, and collect the parts when done.
Give them a quick spray with 'Flat Black' or 'Desert Brown' anything paint, and out the door they go for OUTRAGEOUS amounts of money!

Doesn't matter what it's made of, phenol plastic resin, aluminum, steel, doesn't matter.
What matters is the words 'Tactical' and 'Black' on the packaging!

No stress testing, no operational testing, no ratings for fasteners (Screws, nuts, ect.)
Just crank the junk out as fast as is humanly possible with a room full of HAAS CNC hardware will let me, 12 hours every night, 6 days a week!
I can't stuff the bags and print/staple on the labels fast enough!

Nothing dumber than a 'Tactical Mount' for an AK-47, but I make 7 different designs with 5 places to attach 'Picatinny' rails to them!

Nothing dumber than a flashlight mount for LED flash lights, but I make 4 different kinds for expensive lights to the little, cheap ones!

The best part is, it's all free to me! (except for bags & paint)
All the stock I use has been rejected for one reason or another and is in the 'Scrap' piles here!

What kills me is the requests for discounts from Police Departments!
"Well SURE guys, I'll be GLAD to give you a 15% price break...
*IF* you buy 10 or more so I don't get hosed on the ($2.30 US Mail) shipping!"

------------------------------------------------

Making excellent progress on my new garage from the profits, and I've paid my home off 7 years sooner than I though I would!

So I can't really say I'm wanting the 'Tacti-Cool' fad to end just yet,
I just purchased another 17 acres in the woods, and I'm building a nice garage and workshop there...
I'm about half way to getting the building paid for, then I'm going to pay off the land if the sales of the 'Pet Rock' for the '00's holds out!

Nothing wrong with a revolver for CC

Less "function" problems.

Triggers are easily smoothed out for sweet DA

Reloading is direct and easy. Use a speed loader or have the cylinder honed to fit moon clips.<- I do this

Easy to master reloading on the move (if needed)

Revolvers force you to obtain better sight alignment when you only have 5 or 6.

Plus if you want a bit of tac to it. Add crimson trace grips. <- I do this
makes a world of difference when eyesight is failing.

Depending on needs you can always bob off the thumbing spur to reduce risk of hangup on the draw.

Also Revolvers such as 41 mag 44 spc 44mag mag excellent truck guns.

Well, buddy, load up a dumptruck with pity and send it on over. I like what I like, and it runs to old Chevy trucks, Winchester M70's, and SAA Colts and clones. I do occasionally pick out some Antonio Vivaldi on the banjo, though...

Which is, when something happens,

And you have the gun in the pickup,

But where in hell is the magazine?

Glovebox?

Did you check the magwell?

I'm "lucky enough" to only have a few guns. They all serve multiple purposes because they have to. If I owned more, I would have to get over the guilt of not shooting some of them for long periods of time.

I imagine that would be about as difficult as getting over the guilt of not using the extra toilet paper I have under the bathroom sink.

"I'll get it out someday."

I posted a similar thread a couple weeks ago along the same lines. I'll likely be selling some stuff when I get back to the states.

The only tacticool stuff I have is an old cheap-o "Tactical vest" I used for halloween once and an uncle mike's drop-leg for my SIG.

No flashlights or lasers, but I do have optics on my AR's, w/ BUIS. I've been shooting for 20 years (I'm 32), and I bought my first optic this year, so it's not like I don't know how to use irons - I just think instant aquisition gives me an advantage.

If you don't like the stuff you've got, then get rid of it and get something you do like. People's tastes change and if something else will make you happier than you are now - go for it!

I've wanted to dress up my SKS a little more.
It came dressed with a Ram Line folding stock
with no rails to attach cool stuff.

I fantasize on how cool it would look
with a lot of 'stuff' clamped all over it...
But I just can't justify the need for it,
nor will I spend the big bucks just so it looks cool.

The iron sights do just fine at 100 yards.
Haven't had the opportunity to shoot at targets farther down range yet.

If the day arises and I need tacticool weapons,
I'm sure they can be had for FREE.

I carried a M-4 for years in the Army perhaps I got it all out my system then. I go to the range and watch some of the EBR guys pop off rounds like they are Rambo and just shake my head. Yes some of them are incredibly accurate and some look very nice all dressed up. Just not my thing I listen to several of them talk about how tacti-cool they are and all I can invision is Bill Murray hunting a gopher in Caddy shack.:scrutiny:

Dillon's latest issue had a tongue-in-cheek tacticool test. i am on the advantaged side of 50 and
my basic carry stuff scored me a -11

I'm with ya, Ed.

I love guns. All guns. Single shot .22LRs to whiz-bang M4geries. Knifes are the same. There's too many to be stuck on just one brand/style/era!

It all depends on the mood of your day. Sometimes for me, it's a revolver. Sometimes, it's an auto. Sometimes I carry a Sodbuster. Sometimes I carry an assisted Kershaw or Karambit. Sometimes I listen to hip-hop. Sometimes it's rock.. lately it's been country.
