Anyone else here with severe OCD

I just often feel as if, Heaven forbid, I must defend myself and my weapon is tied up in proceedings, I would like to have the exact same “system” to fall back on.

Using similar logic, I end up with similar pistols if I like one.
Full size 1911's in 45 acp and 10mm
Doesn't matter which I'm carrying, they feel the same in my hand, work the same, use same holster.

What if self defense situation happened on a trip/vacation?
"Two is one logic": take two pistols, for example two 1911's, each has its own holster and two spare mags.
If, God forbid, a pistol ended up in evidence then a replacement is handy for the rest of the trip.

In answer to the original question I'll say no but I do have five 1911s. Since each is similar of course but some what different in setup from the others that can't be considered OCD. That's my excuse, anyway.

Oh, there are even more single actions but they are like the 1911s, similar but different.

I thank the good Lord daily I'm not OCD or anal. I see what these poor people go through and feel sorry for them.
We all have a cross to bear...he made me a Procrastinator with latent hoarding tendencies.
Once you realize you have a problem...you can focus on doing or not doing something.
I make myself get things done...you need to focus on not doing things that ultimately do not matter ...it's just a waste of your time....fight the obsession !

If you truly suffered from severe OCD you would have put a "?" after the title. I, like you, over research new purchases. That is part of the fun of gun ownership. Unlike you, however, I have one gun per "niche". I see no benefit in duplicates except to waste money and distract me. And besides, big reason here, I don't have the $$$$.

I did realize that just after I posted but I don't know how to edit the post title :)

Is this OCD or just "covering the bases"? o_O
1 - .22LR bolt-action
;
1 - .22LR semi;
1 - revolver (2 cyl.) .22LR & Magnum;
1 - .22 Mag bolt-action;
1 - .22 Mag semi pistol;
1 - .357 Magnum revolver;
1 - .357 Mag rifle.
:D

Neither.

You must have at least two of each gun to qualify. :what: You merely have the foundation for a future nice collection of guns. :D

When the chips are down, two is one and one is none. I like the idea of having two - or three of certain items.

I just often feel as if, Heaven forbid, I must defend myself and my weapon is tied up in proceedings, I would like to have the exact same “system” to fall back on.

Not only for that reason but also for use by other family members and logistics.

My accumulation of guns reflect my shooting interests at that particular period in my life so it does not have common theme. A while back I realized that while a variety of guns are fun having a spare to load and stick in my holster if my primary is lost or taken for evidence is very practical. (Massad Ayoob has written about this).

Another reason is for use by other family members for whatever reason whether it is target shooting, hunting or self-defense. That way if two members like the same gun there is one for each of them.

The biggest reason is logistics. I consider buying a firearm as a weapons system particularly for semi-automatic pistols and the AR-15. A semi-auto is only as good as it's magazines. Some manufacturers are dang proud of their magazines and price them according so availability of aftermarket and cost of extra magazines in very important to me. Mecgar makes very good, affordable magazines and there are a lot of AR magazines to choose from at the moment.

The Beretta 92/M9 is very good in this regard. Not only factory and Mecgar but USGI surplus mags are easy to come back and at a low prices. Surplus mags are great for range use so you don't have to worry about them getting dirty and beat up.

My CDO is with organizing. I have pistol magazines store in six pouch ammo bags from MidwauUSA. A different color of bag for each different type of gun...black for Beretta, O.D. for S&W, gray for Ruger. You get the idea. I have hang tags on some the pouches to show how many rounds the mags hold...15, 17 or 18.

In addition I love 30 and 50 caliber ammo cans. I use them for a variety of purposes. I have all but two of them labeled on the end and the top of the lid as to the contents. CDO is kicking in and I am in the planning stages of painting some them different colors for easy identification. For example I store extra pistol and AR magazines in them. One color for the pistol and different color for the AR's. Ammo is more of challenge as I am storing more and more ammo in cans.

Another organizing project I have started in storing a handgun, extra magazines (if semi-auto), some ammo and maybe a holster in ammo cans. Caseclub has inserts made especially for this reason which means more 50 caliber ammo cans and a way to more easily identify the contents.

Then there is non-gun items such as emergency radios, extra batteries, phone chargers, etc.

Then CDO will cause me to want to stack the cans by their color.

“OCD” is an over used term. Too many people use it in place of “Attention to detail”.

Just because your not a slob, have a house or car that’s not full of clutter and always know where to find your keys, doesn’t mean you have obsessive compulsive disorder.

OCD is a serious problem for people. It is rude to use it describe your own hobbies. I toyed with being overly moderating and changing it. However, think about using psychiatric problem terms too glibly.

True. In reality it is not the amusing antics of Monk.
And no human wants to shoot with you when they find out you have been prescribed sertraline, duloxetine or bupropion.
They don't tend to believe it's for Fibromyalgia.

Whenever I identify a need ... e.g. CCW, field pistol, CQB rifle, ... the list goes on ...

I then do all sorts of research and testing to discover the 'best' thing that fulfills that need (and this quest is generally insane bc. there is normally no 'best' solution).

Next, I will set up the whole 'system' with redundancies ... e.g. two (or more) pistols, holsters for every contingency (shoulder, IWB, OWB, as is applicable for the 'need'). Lights, scopes, slings, gun cases (if applicable) ....

So I have 3 fairly identical p226's (only one is a mk25 though ... OCD calling ...) with 3 fairly identical p229's ... (only one M11A1 tho ... stop that you darn OCD!). Essentially 2 (or more) of everything I own. That goes through rifles and shotguns, knives, even clothing.

But at least I'm having fun with my insanity :)

Does anyone else do this ?
I do a lot of research for my needs. 99%of my purchases are impulse buys because I already did the research.

I should say not. You need two of each of those as well as all these in 22lr;
each of those duplicated with different sighting devices,
2 double action revolvers
2 lever actions
2 break open rifles
2 break open pistols
2 pump actions
then these and everything you have listed
dublicated in 22 magnum
duplicated in various barrel lengths
duplicated in 357 mag.
then in compact, subcompact and full sizes as well, then different types of platforms, steel, poly, 1911, AR, heavy barrel, target style, you get the idea.
I might have a mild case of CDO when it comes to gun and reloading equipment ownership but cant afford to take it to the extent I would if I could.

Capt. Awesome - not possible. Retired early so income not that great. Also, out of room for more storage. Would be interested in the Keltec CMR-30 as I already have the PMR-30 pistol but constrained by prior explanation. (sighs):( Oh well.

You keep gun stuff in your kitchen too.:cool:

whuz dat under duh table!

I always say if you're going to do something wrong, do it right.

It usually involves booze and women though.
Or energetically at least......

I dont tend to have more than one of anything at any one time, if i do it becomes something else.
Except tools, now that my daughter can reach into my tool cabinets, and parts bins, i have two sets of every tool i NEED. That way im not scrambling to find something thats grown feet and walked off.

That barreled action with the melted stock , on top of that crate of bayonets?
It’s a Savage 110 in Winchester 270 short mag. It was in a house fire,in the only room that didn’t go up in flames. I removed the stock and had the bolt and action tested for harness. They passed. I traded it off to a friend along with $200 for a Colt 1917 45 ACP revolver.
