Since I'm looking at .380 dies I thought I'd head over to ebay.com I haven't looked at that website in a few years.

I must say I'm surprised at how expensive reloading equipment is there. They are selling things at a higher cost than you can buy brand new online!

Dies, presses, just about everything I've found seems to be listed at a high price. Is this normal? Have you guys abandoned ebay as a potential source of reloading equipment?

Ebay has been my last choice for anything gun related for several years now.
You would do better to find better prices simply searching Bing or google. Even Amazon has better prices and selection.

I picked up a like new set of Redding 30-06 dies on e-Bay a couple of weeks ago for less than $30 (shipping included). Not a lot of bargains but every once in awhile you can still get a deal. I've been looking for another press and I agree they are selling for more on e-bay than if you were to buy from Brian Enos or on Amazon. For the most part it appears to be a sellers market on e-Bay if an item sells. A lot of the items I've been looking for are priced too high to begin with and get no bids before the auction ends.

Compare eBay free shipping price to a midway or brownells price with shipping and packing and you'll find prices quite comparable

Another advantage is if it's listed on eBay it's in stock. Not so much elsewhere

A lee 3 die 380 acp set on eBay is $40
Same set on midway $33 plus $7 or so to ship if you're willing to wait for a back order to fill.

ETA I do not even look at used or auction items on eBay anymore. For me it's strictly a retail outlet

You have to pick and choose for good prices on ebay. Just yesterday, I picked up a Star lube sizer and a .452" die and saved about $150.00 over new prices, including shipping. I've gotten some really good deals there, but you have to be sneaky about it.

Hope this helps.

I have a bookmarked search, and am usually in no rush to find what I'm looking for = my best deals have be found on eBay.

Try FS Reloading for Lee dies. 1st choice. Then Titan reloading. Those are first stops for new. Used I've given up on mainline auction houses. Either here or cast boolits. Patience is your friend, or post WTB in the appropriate forum. Don't forget the PIF forum as well.

eBay has been improving over the years which is good for buyers. No longer can sellers give you negative feedback. Shipping is much faster too. If you're searching for vintage or used stuff, eBay is way better than gunshows or Craigslist. To answer your question, yes I've found a few deals on eBay but patience is usually required.
I might add that eBay is the best place to get rid of the stuff you don't need.

I find when searching ebay do not look only at the specific heading. Search "all" of ebay by the item your looking for. Ex. Dillon, RCBS, hornady etc. use a wider search base. A lot of sellers don't know about the items they are selling and place them in the wrong heading. I've been able to buy great items really cheap this way. Good luck with your quest.

The best bargains are when the seller misspells the item. I hear there have been some great deals on "Lupold" scopes and "Hornidy" dies.

I bought a set of RCBS 257 Wby dies including a neck sizer for $21 not too long ago. Used but mechanically perfect.

Good deals on eBay are 1:100. I have seen and sold things there for more (sometimes a lot more) than what they cost new.

Not bad if you look. I buy most my batteries and car parts there. For me good place to also get small screws and hardware shipped straight to my house tax free.

Spotty deals is a good description. A few years back I was able to make some scores, I don't even really check it much any more. When I do the bargains are not really there. It can be useful for just "finding" something however. If you have the cash you can get it in your hands instead of waiting for the dreaded back order :(

It's also a good place to pick up parts for machines that are no longer made. I have three Bair powder measures, which are good for metering very small amounts of powder. However, they take a proprietary brass rotor that is drilled with a hole for each powder weight.

Just today, I won an auction for two of the rotors that will help to fill a gap in the ones I already have. When I'm able to get multiples of the same size, then I can custom drill the holes for the weight powder drop I need. These are no longer made, so the auction sites are about the only source, and if the seller doesn't know what they are, the prices remain very reasonable, since they aren't labeled properly for the auction.

Hope this helps.

I just spent hours researching price and availability for a 4 die set of 380's last week and found FS Reloading for Lee dies. They have them in stock and the price is right. Mine are on order along with several other items.

MidwayUSA is showing "in stock" for $32.99 + shipping - http://www.midwayusa.com/product/980287/lee-carbide-3-die-set-380-acp

BTW, all of these vendors have the die set (Lee SKU 90625) in stock at less than $40:

Amazon has Lee 380ACP carbide 3 die set in stock for $32.99 + free shipping on orders over $35 (not sure why "Magnum" is listed but shows the correct SKU number of 90625) - http://www.amazon.com/Lee-Precision...sr=1-1&keywords=Lee+380+ACP+carbide+3+die+set

Graf & Sons has for $31.99 + $7.95 flat rate shipping (so if ordering other items, can save on shipping cost) - http://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/8012

Midsouth Shooters has for $29.06 + shipping - http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.c...et-With-Shellholder-by-LEE-RELOADING-PRODUCTS

Natchez has for $29.49 + shipping - http://www.natchezss.com/lc3swpted-380-acp.html

FS Reloading has for $29.71 + shipping - https://fsreloading.com/lee-precision-carbide-3-die-set-.380-automatic-colt-pistol-90625.html

Titan Reloading has for $29.71 + shipping - http://www.titanreloading.com/380-acp-lee-3-die-set-carbide-

So you should be able to buy the die set for less than what you would pay on ebay and even less with Amazon/Graf & Sons if you have other items to purchase.

The point is the prices are the EXACT same and you don't have to spend 10 minutes filling out your life history to order vs merely clicking "pay now" on eBay Amazon being the exception from the list above.

In fact many eBay listings are actually Amazon listings anyway

So why are Amazon prices much less than ebay?

If they are indeed the same item listed by Amazon, why shop on ebay?

Wife/daughter always have items in the cart so meeting the $35 minimum is no problem for me if/when I need to order reloading/shooting related from Amazon with "one click".

I have picked up a Ruger gold bead front sight for a revolver for 14 dollars and a v notch rear sight separately for 10. The front sight seller did not know what she had and listed it as such. I happened to recognize it for what it was after looking for one for a year.

I gave up on Ebay a few years ago. It basically turned into a store front for businesses rather than a true auction site. My biggest complaint was the shipping times that I got from some of these businesses. I am basically an impatient person and want my stuff quickly so Amazon works better for me. Towards the end I found that Ebay prices were really not much better than I could find elsewhere. Add to that the fact that they basically force you to use PayPal and I just decided to move on.

I still check every now and then for tools, reloading gear and fishing items. I have a bunch of reloading die sets and other reloading items listed right now and if no more bids are received in the next day or two someone is going to get a great deal on some of these items (If anyone is interested they can find these items under seller PCCUSNRET) I agree with jrdolall, most of the items being offered in the hunting/reloading section is mostly businesses. I believe e-Bay is more interested in attracting business sales and e-Bay stores than small individual sellers. I have used e-Bay since they started and have bought and sold a bunch of stuff over the years. What really bothers me now is e-Bay advertising items similar to the same items I have listed at the bottom of the listings. I believe they still restrict the selling of brass, but I have noticed a few sellers listing it but didn't check to see if it was taken down before it closed. I used to put extra reloading supplies and brass on here but now there doesn't seem to be much traffic there like in years past. Last night I watched a set of RCBS dies sell for $17.00 and if I didn't have this set I would have tried to snag them.
