Dad Died last week end and Mom is Moving to Penscola Fl With my bro.Where he moved to get away from NY.
I cant take the heat in Fl. and My tax assesment just went up 7 Thousand Dollars . In NY .Ive Had enough Im moving out also-.. I know Ky is the most gun friendly state --So Im hoping some Kind person could take a bit of time and help me Learn about Ky from the Horses mouth and get the truth. [Jobs =Housing costs-Taxes-ETC.] Any help apprecieated.
You Can Pm Me -
How are the shooting ranges -The public ones on state land ??

Cost of living is fairly decent, people have common sense.

Shooting ranges are great, there's on at Cave Run lake about 10 miles from me, but I just go out on the farm to shoot. It's eastern Ky, plenty of backstops. :D
Not a lot of job opportunities.

I have lived in both KY and TN for more than 10 years each. In KY, generally the jobs are concentrated around Louisville and Lexington. Jobs are pretty tough in Eastern KY where I lived. But it is a beautiful area if you like mountains and so forth. Late March and April is my favorite time in KY.

Tennessee is great. I prefer it to KY even though the gun climate is better in KY. Love the scenery in TN except for the western 1/3 of the state. Look at Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga areas for jobs.

Like everything else, it depends on what you do and what expectations you have. You need a road trip and spend about a week or so cruising around to see what you like. There is more to life than State laws on firearms.

Jobs are either plentiful or not, depending on what you do. Tax rates are pretty low outside of Lexington/Louisville, and even they probably aren't bad compared to NY. Never been to a public range, as there are none nearby. Make friends with someone who has land (or buy your own), and you won't have to worry about them anyway. I don't think you would regret moving to Kentucky, just wash the Yankee off of you before you come. It stinks. :p

I Think Id be looking at the Lexinton area Are the people Friendly?? I lived in Nc and Sc and found the people were friendly I also Lived in MT and the people were NOT friendly -Grumpyish,
I do plan a road trip .
Can you find resonably priced Property -Or is most of the land sucked up by developers ? or So expensive you cant afford to buy it.
Im a mechanic and can do most anything BUT I like working at airports -I used to wok for Usair before 9-11-01.
My wife is a University teacher from china.

just wash the Yankee off of you before you come. It stinks.
I never had any Yankee stink On me -Western Ny is about as country as You can find ,,This Is Hunting country and most trucks have NRA Stickers on the windows and Anti Hitlery Bumper stickers .Never worry Ill bring NY with me !

People are definitely friendly around here. You would be better off buying property in one of the towns around Lexington, property taxes are a lot lower outside the city. Try Versailles, Nicholasville, Lawrenceburg, Georgetown, or Frankfort if you think you might work at the airport. Winchester, Richmond, and Paris are also a short commute from Lexington. (Paris has the only reasonably-priced gun range in the area, although it's pistol only.) Lexington and the surrounding area have several universities at which your wife may choose to work. I don't think you would have any problem finding property. There is rural development, but it's not out of control.

Mt Sterling is another up and growing little city that you might check into. About 35 miles East of Lexington. Quite a bit of industry and a growing airport.

Thanks so much ====When I go on the road trip Ill offer to buy you dinner !
Ill be glad to Plant my feet Perminantly! Maby Ill open a Gun Shop Like I used to have !

The other guys have pretty much covered the high spots. I've move around a fair amount and I really love living in KY. Shall Issue CCW state. Taxes and cost of living are within reason. I've found that overall people here are friendly and helpful. If you are considering or traveling through the western half of the state feel free to pm me for more info.

I'm not one to turn down free food!

If you opened a shop with a range in Lexington, that would be awesome. There's not a single place to shoot in town.

Western KY

Dont forget about Western Kentucky, although there arent as many jobs as in Louisville or Lexington there is alot of wide open spaces and not near as many people. Bowling Green and Murray both have excellent universities and Calvert City in Marshall counties had about a dozen different plants manufacturing all different kinds of products. The best thing about far western KY is the fact that you can live in relatively low crime areas, but be in St.Louis, Nashville or Louisville in less than 4 hours.

I'm in Eastern KY and agree with most of what has been said. Lexington is expensive (for KY, not NY) and Louisville isn't much better. Outside of Lexington is reasonable, and the commute is easy. I'm not sure about ranges in that area but I believe there are a couple. I know Blue Grass Indoor Range in Lexington is public and has both rifle and pistol (75ft max, though).

I love my home state, both the people and the laws. I guess it comes from spending 17 years in Illinois.

I am close to Kentucky. Southern indiana, only about 15-20 minutes from Louisville, KY.

Kentucky people are pretty good except they can't drive. ;)

Actually, it's more of a case of the Hoosiers thinkin they can drive better than they really can.
But we still let yall come over anyways.
Why?
Cause we're just that nice that's why. ;)

I live north of Louisville but go into town about everyday. Being a mechanic a job is easy. You may find some plane work here also. UPS has a big hub at the airport. The cost of living isn't bad compared to.....Hell it's getting tough everywhere but is lower then most places.

Come down and do some sight seeing.

Coming from NY you won't have to drive through Indiana. :) Well I can't complain I guess. I go over the bridge to get to one of my favorite ramps on the Ohio and I go to Bass Pro and stop in at Hooters every now and then. I go for the wings.

We're still paranoid from all the yankees that drive through on their way to Florida...
Ok, its pros vs. antis, then its Democrats vs. Republicans, then 9mm vs. 45.

Now it's north vs. south.

Great job activists! Lets create some more divisions among ourselves.

Hk91-762mm, feel free to start a new thread. This one has gone down the crapper.
