Anyone sense the furor dying down?

It is cooling off here a bit but ammo is still low. Saw a couple AK's for the first time in a couple of months and a couple EBRs as well. Magpul 30's for $30 but aren't really selling well.

I still can't find what I'm looking for in the way of reloading components. Winchester small pistol primers have been wiped out for quite some time in the 3-5 stores that I frequent, and most of the other primers are equally thin (right now I'm in need of the WSP, so I notice that the most).

Indy-1500 report

Just a walk-through report. SkS rack had many nice clean guns, but the ones I paid $199 for one year ago are going -- yes SELLING -- for $350-400. No 7.62x39 out on or under tables anywhere. ChiCom AKs are $900-1700 depending upon furniture. Std caliber handgun ammo is still reasonable, but .308 price has doubled in past 6 mo. M1A-types are too high, in the $750-900 ranges, bare rifles. All the vendors are very friendly and do talk lower prices when shown big bills, indicating to me that there is opportunity to buy at still low prices, but sellers will accommodate all the panic they can sell into. Going back tomorrow.

I bought two rifles recently, and both at what I consider, smoking deals. One was an AR15 and the other was a sporting rifle. Ammo and components seem to be hit & miss. It arrives, and then sales out.

Made the rounds through East Metro Atlanta today, there are plenty of guns out there now. But it's tough going if your looking for ammo. Wally World had ammo for the SA pistols, but nothing for revolvers (what I was looking for). One store did have some PMC .223 for $220/500. They sold out of the ~10 cases (of 1000) Federal they had Monday at $400/1000. These ammo prices are ridiculous, but I'm still in stock with what I got at 2005/6 prices on most cartridges.

Don't even waste your time looking for primers around these parts, powder can be had if you look though. But even percussion caps for muzzleloaders are hard to find now.

Not dying out here, a local Big R store is selling guns like pepsi-cola,
hope to be at the INDY show sat.. was hoping to find a batch of 7.62x39 ammo, You know, with all the gun buying, maybe its uniting us as Americans an telling the anti's in Washington to Tread lightly with gun owners...we might be more of a voice than the NRA in their ears....?

The only reason you think "The furor is dying down" is because the libs are frying other fish right now. Plus companies have ramped up production due to the heightend demand, that's why you may see more items in stock.

Marketing, ain't it great. So many people are utterly convinced a rifle is useless if it isn't black plastic with a yard of "tactical" rail on it.

A shotgun or a carbine is a much better home defense weapon than a bolt action rifle wouldn't you agree?

It's slowing down some. You're starting to see deals pop up again at fair prices on some things. For a while, everything was inflated whether it was "tactical" or not. Now, things like bolt action rifles, basic shotguns, etc. are returning to their normal prices, and some semi-auto rifles are also returning to normal. I saw a Saiga 12 going for $600 recently, which was the price it was at before the panic.

Around here Walmart's ammo shelves are still empty and gun store ammo shelves are pretty bare too. Guns and magazines seem to be a little easier to get compared to a month or two ago, but shelves are still pretty bare. I don't see things really slowing down much and the tax rebates will keep the buyers going for a while. Maybe by summer things will have calmed down a bit.

Maybe. Seems forums have record numbers joining and I can't recall the last time we regularly had 1800+ people on line, maybe never.

Shotgun, without a doubt. Carbine has it's uses, not the holy grail some make it to be.

I was commenting on the fact that so many seem to think a walnut/blued steel rifle isn't as "deadly" as a black plastic one.

Lots of guns and ammo on the shelves around here, prices on ammo have gone up a bit, but most everything is readily available... except for the .38 wadcutters I was looking for, them I just can't find.

I've been hibernating and not shooting much this winter and early spring. Scheel's has DPMS's back in stock at reasonable prices (I think), and the one store that has EBR's is pricing crude WASR's at $550-650 and SKS's at $350, but I have no idea if they are selling. I'll happily wait six months for this to blow over somewhat... I'm not paying these inflated prices. Got a Norinco SKS for $225 at a gun show in december. I don't ammo shop much, but things seem to be stocked as usual at Wal-mart and sporting goods stores. I haven't shopped for 7.62x39 because it's expensive and you can't get commie ammo for a decent price around here anyways, just Winchester FMJ.

The dealers around here are so desperate to sell AR's they are having buy one get one free sales! Its great you buy one AR from a company you have never herd of for 250.00 and they will throw in another one for free!

Not really, people at the gun shows still have the George Romero Zombie look in their eyes when they see a black gun, even if its a .22

My local gun shop is still busy; guy there said he's still filling lots of backorders, but for a change, he's got a raft of new pistols in, and he's had about a dozen AR's on the wall for a few weeks now. Still no ammo there to speak of.

I'm thinking that the gun-buying spree is indeed beginning to slow down, perhaps because people are running out of money, scared about their bills, jobs, etc., plus market saturation.

I have noticed things slowing down on the gun side, particularly in rifles. One of the places I go to has a bunch of DPMS, Bushmaster, and S&W AR's that have been sitting for a few weeks. They also have some nice Arsenal AKs and Saiga .223s that have been sitting there for a while.

Ammo is still crazy though. Between several different gun stores, I can get anything I want, but it is expensive. I grabbed a bunch of boxes of Wolf .45acp the other day for practice at 17.99 each. It seems to run well in my XD and I don't reload. 9mm used to be 9.99 a few months ago, but it has crept up to 14.99 a box.

This has got to die down at some point...because with all this ammo buying, I have not noticed any increase in the numbers of people at the range. Are people just stacking all this practice ammo up?

Always plenty of ARs around here and you can still find AKs. The prices are just higher than a year ago. I think eventually (probably sooner than later) the bubble will burst due to economic realities setting in. I can remember the real estate agents and their famous mantra from 5 years ago or so "by now or be priced out forever". Jokes on the ones who "bought now".

I am 34 and I owned my first rifle at 11, a Marlin Model 60 and my first handgun at 13 a Ruger Mark II. At 18 I bought a Sig P226, and have been buying guns ever since. Most THR members are probably pretty similar and have long since been stocked up on everything they NEED and mainly buy things that catch their fancy. The people buying everything they can lay their hands on for the last 6 months or so probably have no intention of continuing to buy guns and ammo at that pace. The bubble will burst soon.

Same around phoenix area lots of overpriced AR's,SKS and anything that looks remotely tacti-cool. More ammo to be found but prices are up, reloading components are finally in stock at some shops.

Everything I need everything my kids will ever need and anything that might catch their fancy too!!

I was ordering holsters for stock today, the rep asked if we needed any ammo. I was shocked because I never buy ammo from this supplier. I asked her if she had any 380. Her reply....6 boxes, not cases, boxes. I almost laughed, butr we needed it. We're out, have been out for weeks, so I took them. Sold them to a guy in vegas 15 minutes later. Amazing what's going on. Other than that, we still have folks pouring in the door wanting loaded 9MM, 380 and 22LR. I have plenty of 22LR, but the rest is still scarce. We sold one 12 gauge today, no calls for pistols, so that's finally starting to cool down. That's the news from SW Missouri.

I think people are getting used to it. Just be careful not to get gouged and end up like those clowns who bought oil futures at $100+ per barrel.:banghead:

If there are no bans or more taxes on guns/ammo that pass in the near future, things should settle down. The people that want to buy or stock up will have done so at some point. The market will again strive to reach an equilibrium.

Smart Democrats (I know an oxymoron) know that more stringent gun laws and bans are potentially political suicide. Their poll numbers have already slipped to low levels, people are disgusted and any more ammunition (pun intended) that would put their jobs at risk is seen as dangerous. All they care about is staying in power. Anything that will endager that will not get passed.
