I think I've seen more AR's hitting the shelves at local and online stores. 7.62X39 is still hard to get except a few places online. A lot of AK's are failing to sell at some fairly ridiculous prices, although Arsenal Saiga conversions are still selling high. A GSG-5 isn't worth $700 no matter how much tactical crapola is on it.

At this point, politically, 'moderate' Democrats aren't behind some of the radical leftist agendas like crap(sic) and trade, health care "reform", etc. So a direct gun ban is very unlikely. Importation bans remain a threat and they can eek up prices for stuff by scrapping ammo casings like they did last week and so on. Also don't be surprised to see an idiotic attempt to slap pollution or carbon tax on bullets.

Have all the people who want to hoard hoarded?

I'm going to wait a few months to see what happens before buying the long rifle I wanted. If worse comes to worse, I'd pick up an unconverted Saiga with the caliber determined by ammo availability, importation bans, etc.

Hopefully prices will go back down when all those people who bought 20 AR lowers at a time will snap out of it and try to sell them back into the market.

I don't see the furor dying down any time soon as the dems are STILL talking about an AWB.

As for prices and such, I do believe parts of the supply chain have caught up with demand (especially for AKs) so the prices may dip a little bit.

Nope.... it's been ramping up the last month from what I've seen in local shops.

I still see plenty of ARs around here. One of the local shops was advertising some DMPS AR for $799 on their marquee.

Sure doesn't seem that crazy here.

Here at work there are a lot of "gun guys" and "gun gals" (one of our female employees is clearly this corporation's most accomplished shooter in terms of competion and whatnot). At any rate, I am seeing about 50/50. Half of us are either over it or taking it in stride - come what may kind of a thing...and the other half are either still just plain freaking out or are worrying a lot.

Ironically, our "AR guy" is one of the "everything is going to be fine" crowd. He has the Class III license, only shoots suppressed firearms...he must have $10,000 in tax stamps. He probably figures everybody at the ATF already knows him anyway...and he says so.

So I would conclude that the the thing has died down only just a little bit.

My screaming mee-mee liberal, gonna be a Constitutional lawyer, step-son...who has nothing better to do than read about stuff like this ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, assures me that Obama, based on his background of constitutional law, is not very likely to move forward with much zeal on gun bans like we see in UK or Australia or anything like that. He says, however, that Pelosi is another matter altogether as she is not only against guns, she probably couldn't read the constitution without moving her lips (his words). Whether or not Obama would VETO something sent to him is of course another matter.

So I have never been very panicky but things are still dicey.

Not yet. But then, I'm not far from the US/Mexico border and with all the chaos to our south, I think that feeds some extra demand around here.

The snowball keeps rolling downhill. I just had a friend tell me the other day that I need to "go out and buy all the ammo you can get!"

I told him thanks, but I'm fine. Fortunately for me, he's only got one gun chambered in my preferred cartridge...otherwise I wouldn't even be able to pick up the odd box of practice ammo.

Local shop that had trouble keeping anything in the display cases for December through first half of March actually has some inventory on display now. The interest for the time being has shifted to ammo.

Hopefully prices will go back down when all those people who bought 20 AR lowers at a time will snap out of it and try to sell them back into the market.

amen. Hopefully for what they paid for them. :)

Here in Pennsylvania it hasn't died down. EBR's are either non-existent or very over priced. Ammo at Wal-Mart is non-existent. The gunshows are wall to wall people and ammo, magazines, semi-auto pistols and rifles are premium. Nobody looks at hunting weapons unless it can double as a tactical bolt action. People who care in law enforcement are worried whats coming but graveyard humor keeps us working. Its like everyone is waiting for that one catalyst situation or spark that is going to set everything off. As long as the political, economic, and social unrest continues, I think the gun "furor" will continue especially on the ammo side of the equation.

I don't doubt Pelosi/Reid & Obama's teleprompter all want to get rid of all private guns.

But considering we now know that they knew about the AIG bonuses since the bailouts were signed, how likely is it that they would find much popular support for a contentious issue?

Also, for now, we live in a capitalist country. If there's a market for certain ammo, or guns, and a little price/political stability, someone will pop up to make it. And if prices begin to fall, alot of speculators or irrational hoarders will begin to dump their stuff to avoid losing money they put into the gathering. Like oil last fall.

I can seriously understand stocking up if I was in Texas. But, considering the gangs from Mexico all have the mega-round drum clips and real full-automatics, it would be hard to fend them off.

It seems to me it is just spreading out even to non gun forum folks. I had a lady last night tell about the ammo shortage - she heard it on Rush Limbaugh.

Just went to Sportsmans Warehouse and Wal Mart and there is little ammo to be had. Buy all the guns you want, but just try to find ammo. I've decided to stop shooting any of my guns until I can find a ready supply of ammo for them. Time to fire up the Dillon again, I guess.

I for one do not.

1. My FFL dealer is as busy as I've ever seen, and certainly as busy as he's ever been by own admission. On a recent purchase I made there, the dealer told me that the phone call to the state police for the mandatory background check could take upwards of 30 minutes just to get the phone answered (it took 10; he said with a smile that he must be living right).

2. The local WallyWorlds continue to be regularly out of ammo of all stripes and varieties and have been for going on 3 months now. A quick check yesterday and again this morning produced more of the same: an empty shelf.

3. A visit this past weekend to an area box store that sells products for the home, farm, garden, and ranch was packed to the gills with people in the gun department. Half of them looked like they were trying to buy ammo; the other half seemed to be filling out the paperwork to buy guns. I was there to see if they had any 9mm Winchester in stock but didn't bother to fight the lines to the counter. And no, I didn't find any 9mm Winchester White Box at any of the other stories I checked on that weekend, either.

Slowing down? I don't see it.

What's wrong with you people?

Wife went to Wal Mart to get some items yesterday and so I asked her to pick up some .22 if they had any. She was there first and then another customer showed up. The clerk asked her what she needed and she said she wanted to get some .22 ammo. The guy behind the counter said that earlier that morning they had received 25 packs of 550 count Remington HV and that they were all gone except for four packs. Then the guy in line behind my wife said he'd split those with her and she agreed. So, at least we got another 1100 rounds.

So, no, I don't think it has eased off any. At least, not around here.

I'm seeing more ammo in stock just about every where around here than I have seen in 6 months.

Central Florida Reporting...

Well here in the "Gunshine State" the sales of Guns and ammo is off the charts. There are Black rifles available at inflated prices like $7-900 WASR's and $15-1,700 AR's. Ammo has dried up at Wallyville completely. I don't even bother going there to look any more. Little old ladies are buying guns at the local Shops. The gun shows CWP classes are booked solid. These are some strange times for sure...My one local Gun Shop has limits on 7.62x39 100 rounds per customer per day but I try and buy a few hundred rounds every week. Gotta feed the babies...!!!

Local shop I was at the other day (Valparaiso) had a crap load of .223, 308. They also have a bunch of AR's and WASR's.

Some reloading stuff is still pretty thin.

My mom is in the market for a revolver. She carries.

I bought two handguns (Kimber Custom Eclipse, Glock 19) last week. The lines were long.

Marketing, ain't it great. So many people are utterly convinced a rifle is useless if it isn't black plastic with a yard of "tactical" rail on it.
