Does anyone here secretly wish that the AWB would be renewed?
I would think that it's going to cost some collectors alot of money when their old pre-ban guns and magazines are worth less than they are currently.

I only want it renewed because if it isn't = the replacement -- either immeadiatly or in a few months -- will be MUCH MORE RESTRICTIVE!!!!!

Absolutely not. It's the worst 2A infringement in history (at least the 34 act only taxed certain guns, not banned them from manufacture or import). It's a sad day down the slippery slope if the ban does not sunset for good. Write your critters folks. The bill is on the Senate floor NOW.

And wait a sec - if it costs anyone money, then it was either:

a) Done at their own peril, if they purchased the gun since 1994, when they knew or should have known that the law was set to sunset; or
b) If they owned the gun prior to 94, then it's inflation of value was all artificial anyway, and it's value will merely revert back to what it was, it's acquisition cost, and thus there's no real cost to the owner, only a "lost" opportunity cost created by an artificial price increase due to an unconstitutional law that never should have happened.

With all due respect, what the heck are you talking about? In my mind, the loss of freedom forever, and setting the precedent for a revolution that will destroy our great nation, is many thousands of times the magnitude of the loss of a few dollars that weren't really earned anyway. And if the loss is due a post-ban purchase, then that's the free market, and everyone was on notice that the ban had a built-in sunset provision. Your sentiments cause me much consternation and  --Dan

Really, it's not an issue for me. There are ALOT of guns I will never be able to own even if the federal laws change, my state has seen to it :fire:

No. I don't have a lot of the guns that went up in value after the AWB. I am waiting to see if it sunsets so I can stock up on cheap hi-caps and several "assult" weapons that I have been wanting.

I want an Uzi and I don't care who knows it!:D My friend has one and I really enjoy shooting it.

Uh. . . . no. Not so much, not really, no.

I don't have any pre-bans. Dad does (an SKS and an old SP1 AR15) but he essentially considers any money he puts into guns to be permanently gone. Let's be honest--that "investment" stuff is how you justify your hobby to Them That Do Not Understand, not reality. The reality is that Dad hears the ban may sunset, and the first thing he thinks about is that Auto Ordinance will make new drums for Tommy guns.

I'll lose some money but so what...I'll make up for it by buying all of the cool stuff I've been missing.

I've already sold a couple of my prebans to make room for all the new stuff
I'll be getting next september :D

Some people on this board have suggested it should be allowed to stand as a compromise with the anti gunners, in the erroneous belief that they will be satiated. This ignores the fact that it is absurd and despicable to throw law abiding people in jail for posessing guns

But we all know that those people can't be trusted. Once they get the assault weapon they'll go after handguns. Once they get the hand guns they'll go after "sniper rifles". Once they get the rifles they'll go after shotguns. At each and every stage there will be hunters, black powder folks, shotgunners, etc. willing to sell out the rest of us who actually give a damn about freedom for everyone.

I don't really have a huge vested interest either way as I like single stack handguns and my "ASSAULT RIFLES":banghead: all have cheap and readily available pre ban magazines. I would like a collapsing stock on the AR but it's not a big deal. Bayonet lug..........whatever.

That being said I have written everybody and anybody to get rid of this travesty. We all have to work together on this whether it directly effects us or not because whether or not you realize it yet IT DOES AFFECT ALL OF US.

To "lose money" on the mint pre-ban SAR-48 I paid $1200 for is a price I would pay without hesitation.

I'm eager for the AWB to end for one particular reason....

When "standard capacity" mags of 11+ rounds become available, many will be trading in their old single-stacks, sixguns, and 10-rd. mags to get the new items--many way below what they paid. Gun store owners will have a glut of these items that they'll have to discount radically to get anyone to buy them up....

...and guess who comes riding to their rescue...

(distant approaching sounds of "The William Tell Overture")...

I have six pre-ban AR15s in various configurations, a preban SAR-48 FAL, a preban NM M1A and literally a couple hundred pre-ban standard capacity magazines for my rifles and pistols. So I suppose you could say I would lose money if the ban were to expire. However I bought all of this stuff before the ban, but even if I hadn't it wouldn't matter. I want to see that infringment on our rights gone!! It's not about money, it's about freedom.

Jeff

As my friend with the HK91 said (to paraphrase), "As soon as I finished swearing about my rifle losing value is about the time I would rejoyce about buying something new."

And lets not just stop at the AWB. The Machinegun Ban needs your help too!! ;)

JUST MY POINT OF VIEW.......!!

i have 14 pre-ban Colt AR-15s:D (& buying more every time i see a deal !) they will only increase in value as i see it.., my logic: Colt will NEVER go back to pre-ban configuration, therefore i believe Colts will hold or increase in value, i have heard that Bushmaster MIGHT go back to their pre-ban config. & maybe some of the slower sellers just to get higher sales volume.

i for one do not expect to see any major price drops for any pre-ban..., welll...., maybe the Hesses':D as for 20 & 30 rnd mags. they will still cost around $20 to $30 each NIW......

look at the gun market in the same way as the stock market, IF/WHEN the ban sunsets, there will/maybe be a slight value/price slump, but once the glut or race to buy will send the prices sky high once more...., QUALITY pre-bans will hold their value simply because i do not believe Mfgrs. will take the risk of producing pre-ban when their current line is selling well.....

JUST MY POINT OF VIEW :neener:

The only good thing about it staying in place is that we may prevent the wacko liberal states from doing more stupid stuff.

I'm currently in MD. They are already planning on how they will save their beloved crime ridden B'More from the tide of assault weapons headed their way:banghead:

It could make things worse in some states that take it as a good time to scare the morons there into passing more foolish laws.

Will be great for the rest of the country if it goes away though.

Will be a boost to the industry and will secure bill clinton's "legacy" of selling more firearms to the American people than any other Pres:rolleyes:
Everyone bought when they were getting banned and now everyone will buy since they are back.

I'm interested in what it will do for the industry. I hope they jump on the chance to make some good stuff.

I think any of us would willingly take the price drop in exchange for freedom! To sacrifice any freedom for financial purposes is a sickening thought!!! :cuss: :fire: :cuss: :fire: :cuss:

QUALITY pre-bans will hold their value simply because i do not believe Mfgrs. will take the risk of producing pre-ban when their current line is selling well.....

Considering that DPMS, Bushmaster, Olympic, et cetera all catalog pre-ban parts and build pre-ban rifles (albeit with "LE/Military Only" stamped on them), how much do you care to wager on that? :scrutiny:

They'll make the stuff they made before 94 again, ya know why? Everyone who currently owns an AR will want one with some new stock, or flashider, etc.

Some people on this board have suggested it should be allowed to stand as a compromise with the anti gunners
The problem is, each "compromise" advances the anti-gun cause, and impairs or restricts RKBA. It's like a wheel with a ratchet . . . click, a small loss for us. Click . . . another small loss for us. Click . . . click . . . click . . . and suddenly, after a long string of losses, we're looking a lot like Britain.

Or :barf: France.

Next time an "anti-gunner" suggests we "compromise" ask them what THEY are willing to give up on in return for concessions from our side. (I suggest a law that makes concealed handgun licenses issued in one state valid in ALL states, including all counties and cities . . . just like driver's licenses. See what their reaction is to THIS "compromise.")

And for the record . . . that's just a suggested talking point. I don't believe rights should be subject to compromise.

Freedom over money for me.

I really don't think the ban will go away though, I dread that it will just continue on, and probably be made worse.

Which sucks on many levels.

I think this is more important and pivitol than people realize.

The "repub revolution of 1994" was in a large part due to the AWB.

Many of the high ranking House and Senate Repubs are poised to let it sunset. GW has gone on record as saying he would sign legislation to reinact it - Big mistake George, many of your backers in 2000 were gun owners, you lose us and you have lost.

Since this sunsets in 2004, which happens to be a Presidential election year, it will get even more media attention than it would by itself.

And the fact that it has had zero effect in reducing crime will not matter to the socialist/left wing media in any way, shape or form.

The congressional repubs will need to grow a larger pair of stones.:banghead:
