AR-10 upper options

I'm narrowing down my options for an AR-10, and I'm liking the RRA LAR-8 more and more because it takes FAL magazines.

My question is, if I have this rifle, is it feasible (and hopefully easy) to build additional uppers in other calibers that are derived from the .308, and will they ALSO work with FAL mags? (7mm 08, .243, 260, .22 CHeetah?) Do I just build another upper with a barrel chambered for the other cartridge and shoot it? If there are gas system adjustments I can handle that.

Sorry but no. I too have a Lar-8 and I love it but due to the lower reciever it will not accept any other upper. The bolt on the LAR-8 is longer than other AR-10 clones thus the lower is also larger for the upper to mate. Your best bet for multiple calibers would be DPMS. Also new FAL mags ar eonly 5 bucks less than DPMS mags but you can get surplus FAL mags for around 5 bucks. To float the barrel on the LAR-8 is also a tasks since Rock River has such a unique barrel nut that if you were to replace it with any other nut besides Daniel Defense it could blow up your rifle. There are only 3 manufacturers of compatible floating handguards I am aware of: Troy (pictured), JP, and DD. But boy do I love my LAR-8.

I have since added a "po boy" magnifier to the Aimpoint.

Also the LAR-8 lower is where the bolt release is located (in the magwell) that is another reason as to why an additional upper will not work.

I may begrudgingly get a RRA AND a DPMS.

Wish I had that kind of dough, a shop near me has a DPMS multi cal AR-10 stripped lower I have been eyeing for some time, but I just can't justify 350 bucks for a stripped lower.

Dunno. I'm leaving for a year and saving a pile of cash, but I might just buy a DPMS stripped AR-10 lower before I leave and buy a pile of DPMS mags while I'm gone. (I looked on the website, they use the same mag for .308, .260, and .243.)

I have a growing sentiment that I need to propagate the 'in common use' philosophy and start using evil black rifles for every purpose I can.
