Didn't I see a magazine ad for an AR that uses the AK mag and shoots the AK round? Has anyone shot this rifle? How did it perform?
Thanks.
Thanks.
so they can take cheap unreliable magazines...?
Yes. Suomi mags. Possibly VZ58 mags as well (because they are essentially the same thing, only aluminum and more nicely made)Are you claiming there are more reliable mags than the Comblock AK magazines?

Again how many in real world use? Being basically AK mags they could be as reliable, but I don't see making them out of aluminum as enhancing reliability My samples of VZ58 mags don't seem "more nicely made" in any way -- just lighter (aluminum) with a tab to activate a BHO device.Possibly VZ58 mags as well (because they are essentially the same thing, only aluminum and more nicely made)
considering that the 6.5 grendel AR is identical to the x39 AR with the exception of barrel and magazines and they are 100% reliable, it is a fair assumption to say that it's the magazines. my brother struggled with reliability for about a year before he got new springs and followers for his mags, now it's 100% reliable. I had the same problem with my 9mm until I bought quality magazines. the main problem with many specialty ARs is the magazines.from what i've heard about the ar15 that are chambered for the 7.62x39 round is not as reliable. could be the magazines they designed to work with the ar lower... that's why they came out with the 300 blackout. i'm building one myself.

Yes. The older 7.62x39mm AR-15's had straight magwells, so the magazines had to have a long straight section at the top in order to fit the magwell. The problem is that 7.62x39mm is a very tapered round and really didn't work well with that geometry. The OP specifically asked about the versions of the AR-15 which are designed to use AK mags. Totally different.
