I plan to get an AR soon, and hurry to get one just for the fact that the recent discussions of the upper versatility, 6.8, 6.5 grendel, and 458 socom and 50 beowulf have increased the anticipation.

However, I want to get a Colt or a Smith & Wesson.
I have heard of compatibility problems with these uppers and these lowers. Is this true?

And how are the S&Ws M&Ps anyways? I haven't heard a single member mention them.

You want to spend big $$$?

I know the colt triggers are large pin vs. small pin but that should not effect upper/lower swaps.

Standard upper receiver ejection ports work with 6.5 Grendel, not sure about .50 Beowulf or .458 SOCOM. (for using a stripped upper build and ordering a barrel/bolt combo)

I haven't heard of any compatibility issues, I use my .50 Beowulf on RRA and DPMS lowers. I also know guys using the Grendel and .458 Socom uppers on all sorts of lowers.

I've heard of the takedown pin? on the colt uppers being bigger. Is there a specific reason for going with colt and S&W only? Maybe a bushmaster? It will probably be a bit cheaper and may even be better quality and you know for a fact that it will work with everything out there.
I root for the Grendel - what a heck of a cartridge!

Thought I read somewhere that Smith and Wesson were just re-branded Stag/CMT parts. Not sure if that is true or not.

Yes, the S&W version is rebranded - but U get the S&W warranty and service, which is awesome. And, someone on AR15 listed all the parts and the prices if U bought the parts seperately compared to the S&W street price - for that tactical S&W AR model - it was pretty close in price.

If I were to buy an AR, I'd want the S&W tac model. In fact, before I bought my PS90 in early Dec - my choices were down to the PS90 or that tac model AR. I finally got a chance to shoot two PS90s over a weekend, and that made up my mind - I got the PS90. But, had I not, the S&W AR would be mine now.

There are a few posts w/ reviews on them on Ar15 and some of the various sites. Everyone seems to be happy.
