Which part is cheap, the ammo or the rifle ?

I was refering to the gun itself. Meaning more the various AK variants. Around here, a good condition AK/MAK/SAR-1/-2 are roughly half the price of an AR. Ammo is a draw but I don't shoot Wolf. Both of them are cheap enough to shot that almost everyone should have at least one or the other.

I use to have nightmares, about being in a gun fight & the gun itself malfunction during the shoot out.
So, being a owner of many firearms, I use alot of rifle's & handguns, and made sure they all function perfectly, but that wasnt good enough.
Best designed rifle, is a AK-47, it isnt picky on mags or ammo.
I also use the classic 1911 and Browning H-P.

AR's, are pretty and shoot a .22 bullet, and isnt as reliable, as I
'd like my firearms to be. :p

But for a plinker, all .22's are nice.

Already got 1 AR, and want another. Probably should pick up an AK at some point since I already have something in that caliber.

Voted AK - buying an AR. I think it's a matter of "overall best"
for what? Most of my firearms tend to be combat oriented. The
AR is "neater" and cleaner than Combloc weapons and appeals
to my pride of ownership, but the AK is stout as heck and
very reliable. A gun that can be easily broken or doesn't always
go bang when wanted is not "the best" for a combat enviroment.
The tight tolerances on the AR are just what add to that pride
of ownership thing and just the reason I voted AK.

We do seem to be starting this board off right, don't we! :D

Well, now, Mr. Parker, after 52 years of thutty-ought-sixing, I hesitate to call the AK round "powerful". :D Adequate for some purposes, yeah, but hardly "powerful".

I remember when they first came out with the .223, and the newsies were all oohing and ahhing. None of the silly twits had ever heard of a Swift or Varminter. :)

(Snicker) The best thing to come out of modern military cartridges was necking down the .308 to 6mm and 7mm.

:D, Art

Don't use think "powerful" as it applies to military cartridges has been re-defined in the last 25 years? The latest military ammo both on and off the design boards continue to have less energy but the terminal performance remains pretty much the same. Rifle bullet designs have made great strides just like pistol bullets. Who would have seriously considered the .32 auto a serious self-defense round just 15 years ago? Yet the stats bear out that with the proper bullet (ie Silver Tips, CoreBon) even that mouse caliber can acheive a 60% or better performance rating.

Buy one, then buy a copy. Buy 10K rounds of ammo. Train like mad.

I didn't know we were comparing the '06 to anything in this thread. Sure I'll take the '06 to the 22 or times 39 Rusky but that's not the "poll" as it were.
I'm not a fan of the "22" but I like the times 39 rusky.:D

Thanks, I made it myself. I got jealous of all these dudes using photoshop, so I gave it a shot. Not bad for 1st time methinks.

Those photos are from that website that makes fun of the Liberian "freedom fighters"...one photo in that series has a guy wearing the old-style poofy blaze orange life preserver thinking it will provide ballistic protection (I assume)...another guy is trying to shoot an AK prone, but he bumped the floor plate off his AK mag and the entire spring is extended on the ground, but he remains in the ready prone position...

762x51. what is that rifle and where can i find it:D

another vote for the ar-15. voting against it would be like voting against my big brother. dads ar-15 has been to the range with me ever since that first time:rolleyes: it was purchased from my papa too. (he graduated to an m-16 and a colt comando)
