AR15: Buy Now or Later?

Hey guys,

With the current prices and Obama in office, would it be wise to purchase an AR15 now or later? When I say later I mean at least 5 years down the road. Will prices keep going up? Would it better to buy quality parts over a time of a few years and build it? Could the AR15 and ammo potentially be banned within that time?

Who really knows the future, if your not in a hurry just keep looking for a good deal on one....chances are gun prices will keep going up...do they ever go down...a SKS in the 90's cost me 89.00....now I see them going as high as 400.00 an some higher....wish I knew the future too.
I would like to think with so many being made its going to peak, an perhaps some that need the money may be selling, ...thats the best I can tell you...glad I got my Colt years ago.

i'm not a political scientist or have a degree in economics but what i have noticed is gun prices are always going up. As for fine used firearms (well designed and kept in good condition) it doesn't take to long to be worth more than what you paid new. also wit obama in office i don't see ar's being legal much longer and i don't think it will have a sunset clause like last time.

If they stay legal the market is going to be flooded with them is my prediction. Even if nobody personally starts selling they certainly are going to slow or stop buying. Manufacturers are cranking out as much as they can right now. Again if they stay legal this high efficiency mass volume is going to hit a market that has lost its demand. Something is going to have to change. Either the manufacturers are going to lay a lot of people off and potentially sell equipment or the market is going to get a lot of ARs, or a bit of both. If a ban comes who knows if that will be good or bad for the guy who already bought an AR. The Clinton ban grandfathered current ARs in. Obama signed a bill in Illinois that would have made all ARs illegal, not just new ones. If a ban gets through the system who knows which it would be. You could have bought a $1000 AR that then became worth $2000+ or you could have bought an AR that now needs to be destroyed or makes you a felon. Your guess on how everything goes is as good as any.

I think that you should not worry as much about gun prices with obama as much as a Supreme court ruling. As soon as the supreme court actually hears a case regarding exactly what the second amendment pertains to and all restrictions and laws regarding firearms are seen as unconstitutional and dropped you will see prices of firearms plummet back to reasonable prices. 200$ for an AR sound good to you too?

I'm of the opinion that panic buying has already started and you see it with the shortage of primers and bullets. Right now our new President has far bigger worries than instigating any new firearms laws or bans. Once this economy problem is under control(if ever) again, MR.O. will turn to other things and at that time we should start to worry. After saying all that, now's the time to buy that AR15 and a 1/2 dozen hi-cap mags to go with it. Prices will never be better. Again, JMHO.

Buy what you want or need. Buy it only when you have the money to buy it. Simple as that.

The conservative thing to do is buy now. Obama will get around to a ban. The latest reason is Mexico. If you buy an AR now, the worst that can happen is a small drop in the value if the ban does not happen. When the ban does happens the rifle will increase in value. Also, it is unlikely that you will sell the AR once you have one.

I would like to think that the Supreme Court would void a gun ban, but future appointees are unlikely to be pro second amendment and we have some older Justices.

Some places have not raised their prices appreciably. Of course, those places already have backorder lists months long. If you want an AR and don't want to pay high prices on something that may drop in price, backorder one and wait on it.

It is well known that our President supports bans on firearms and various types of Gun Control. Since the economy is in the tank he has been sliding liberal agenda through congress while the US Citizens have been watching the bailouts and other scams in the news. Gun Control is too big of an issue not to get noticed so watch for it to come up after the mid-term elections. This will ensure two more years of control. At the end of the day - if you don't own a firearm....you should.

My thought on the matter is most of the AR makers have raised their prices very little since this has started. Prices are artificially inflated right now. Mostly due to supply and demand economics.
