A Black Powder or Antique firearm is still a firearm. Most States restrict firearms for felons.
The "Black Powder" and "Antique" exemptions are mainly Federal and refer to transfers.

Check with your State to see what their rules are.

airguns

Not sure of this but i think NY just recently changed the law so air gun rifles and pistols are now considered firearms.

In a previous post I noted that if any states were likely to restrict air guns... it would the kind of states the Democrats run... so far I've been proved right (for a change...).

Is the OP a Federal felon? If not, he may be able to get his gun rights back. He has to come back and tell us that, and has been said, what state he resides in.

In September 2015 "David Lee Haywood" got 5 years for unlawful possession of a BB gun - He had a prior (2005) felony drug conviction. The MN Appeals Court upheld the conviction because the BB gun qualified as a handgun under state law.

In your case, you would probably want to talk with an attorney on this, in addition to reading up on the statutes.
