Are derringers considered revolvers?

Here in Clark County, when you get your CCW, if you do the class with a revolver, then you can conceal carry any revolver, autoloaders require a permit for each one. I'm just wondering if something such a Davis .357 derringer is considered a "revolver" since it's obviously not a autoloader. I did a search but didn't come up with anything.

I imagine that is because all revolvers basically work the same way.

Many different auto-pistols have different safety systems, and methods of operation.

A derringer comes closer to working like a SA revolver then an auto-pistol, but I sure wouldn't call it one.

But a derringer is at the very bottom of the food-chain when it comes to a CCW weapon.
Why would you even consider wanting to carry one when so many better weapons options are available.

i would think it would be under revolver, because it doesn't have a removable magazine or any sort of auto-feeding capability...just MHO

For others who may be interested, in NV you have to register and live fire qualify with each CCW handgun, so this question is more than academic. (I lived in the Vegas area for a time.)

My guess would be revolver, since in the operations needed to make a derringer fire are most like that of a single-action revolver. But I can't say for sure.

As far as the BATFE is concerned (at least on the 4473) derringers are pistols. A T/C Encore or Contender in pistol configuration is also a pistol. Neither has a revolving cylinder; hence they are not revolvers.

So a "revolver" has a revolving cylinder? Fixed barrel with revolving hammer isn't a autoloader or revolver?

What about revolvers and CCW Permit?
Also effective Oct 1 (2007), a CCW permittee can qualify with a revolver and thereafter carry ANY revolver (or derringer) - the permit will simply state "Revolvers"; however, one must continue to qualify with each make/model/caliber of semi auto pistols.

From what I read, it varies from class to class. Some want you to just bring 1 gun, others do extra guns for free, some charge $5 - $50 per extra gun.

Some places want you to pay $300 for the class (not including the Police application fee, which is another $100.25), then you have to buy their ammo, and all this BS. Other places charge $75 (not including the application fee) and that includes all the ammo needed for the ccw class (30 rounds if your gun holds 5 rounds, 36 rounds if your gun holds 6 or more).

If you can carry a revolver, you can carry a darringer. So yes, kind of.
