Work in the "Hough" area of Cleveland...I have to drive MLK Boulevard every day to work.

Guess my answer....

Plus, my super-leftist maganement here has those "Criminal Empowerment Zone" signs everywhere.

So, I gotta be super-observant going in/out at work

the home turf is clean.
even in this part of ca gangs are not put up with.

but my job covers a very wide area, south west to monteray. south east dinuba.
north west arcada, north east lovelock, nv.
north to shasta city.

and all stops inbetween.

I live in an area that could be described as recently suburban. You read more and more about crime in our area. Most of the new construction is in the $750+ range and somewhat spread out; which limits organized activity.

There have been a few home invasions and brake-ins in some of the new mc-mansion sub-divisions. It is generally figured they are local kids/wanna-bes. That being said more and more of it is people coming in from Trenton (just across the river) and north Philly. The Russian mob is also around - mostly in the form of front companies and residences. They at the least know not to s*#@ were they eat.

My sacred lair is pretty much in Amish country. Out in the sticks, we have home burglary as the biggest fear. When it takes 2-3 hours to go to the grocery store, the bad-guys have run of the roost while you're gone. I haven't heard about any violent stuff, but a few years ago, we had a home burglary a few miles away.

Work in north St. Louis. Not allowed to bring firearms into work (metal detectors) It makes the 400 yard in-the-dark walk in and out of work exciting. We have had a couple muggings and regular car break-ins, I worry about keeping my weapons in my vehicles, I definetly don't NRA sticker up my car, I just keep it looking like a POS with nothing but trash in it.

Thankfully, the Gang wars have died down a lot here in St. Louis...

We used to have tons of Crips/Disciples vs. Bloods... Still have a decent amount of bangers in pocketed low income areas...

I used to run with a bunch of disciples (stupidly) during high school and a few years after, so I know what to look for... I recognise, their colors and can read most of their tagging...

As the hispanic population grows we are starting to see an increase in their gangs, but its not huge at this point...

perhaps some activity...I took the first choice though...in northwest oklahoma it seems like even the hoodlums say yes sir and no sir!

You do remember what Chris Rock said about travelling down MLK don't you.........RUNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!:neener: I don't know what magnetism that street has to it but every town I have lived in I tried/try to avoid that stretch of pavement. It's hard now because the way I usually go to the horse track involves this interesting scenic route.:D

I chose the first choice, you could keep your doors unlocked pretty much all the time. In fact, my father does, and always has, for as long as i remember without any incidents, ever. I never had a key to the house growing up. Never needed it. Only recently since ive been married and gotten my own apartment have i regularly used keys and locked my doors at night and when we are gone during the day. Not that i feel i need to, just that it makes my wife feel safer, and it is a good idea, just in case...

We dont have any real gangs where i live, which is surprising, considering its probably one of the worst towns in vermont as far as drugs go. Dont get me wrong, in the last couple of years there has been some gang style grafiti popping up, but i think its mostly wannabe's. You see latin kings tags and then there is the amusing 'home grown' gang tags 'south side' (for southern vermont, *chuckle*) and the funniest one, the ones who were calling themselves the 'green mountain boys'. Again, the latter two are a joke and are most likely formed with a total of 3 members who nobody knows. The former is a legit gang, but again, up here its mostly just posers who aren't really affiliated with the real gang. It seems like every 5 years or so, you'll see the big news on the front page of the local paper about the supposedly new gangs in town. Its always wannabe's. Every time. Our town for its size (about 25-30,000) has a pretty active police force, so gangs and grafiti get investigated and taken care of pretty quickly, then all is quiet again for a few years or so.

To sum it up, in my town, im more afraid of drunken rednecks than the so called 'gang members' around this small town.

Well, now that I have split up with my long term Girlfriend, I have moved back to "The Hood"... I will eventually move, but I needed someplace quick, and a friend of mine owns the building and rented me the place.

It is actually quite nice inside newly remodeled with all new appliances so I am comfortable. It is a street level unit that is or was the basement as the property slopes around the sides to the back of the house.

I now keep not only my pistol on my back, but I keep the AR at the ready the majority of the time as well...

Man, the tension just driving around the city, or going to the store there is saddening. I grew up two blocks from where I am and it was a nice place where all people regardless of skin color got along at one time.

I often hear the term wannabes and want to remind people that you have to look out for these guys too, sometimes more than hard core Gang Bangers...

Now days, you are not going to see as many OGs and Hard Core Gangbangers "Set Trippin" and talking **** to people...

They are into making major paper and taking care of business, they feel they have nothing to prove and a lot to risk by flaunting and starting *****...

They feel they have put in work and are recognized...

Its the ""wannabes" that are out there roaming around talking ***** looking for dirt to get into and prove themselves...

They would pop you in a minute just to prove themselves and earn a few points of street cred...

Stupid as it is... I've seen a lot of that..

were i live the gangs aren't too much of a problem but we do have heards of teen agers who like to destroy public and private property and as I am studying to be a police officer it really burns me

Gang activity on the increase here in the Florida capital. Just had a 15 year old shot and killed in a drive-by incident. Mostly gang on gang with a bit of dope dealing involved.

Plenty of gang activity in my work area, which is only a few minutes drive from home. Fortunately, I live near the main route to the county detention and training center so there is a high level of police traffic, and more than a few officers in the neighborhood. That helps keep the threat profile around home down. As for work, the gangs tends to focus on the projects.

I'm not aware of much gang activity in my town, but I see some tagging, so I expect they're out there.

I came across some tennis shoes hanging on a powerline while on a walk down by the river once. I've heard that is a common territorial marker for gangs, so I took the time to chuck a few rocks at them until they came down. That's the most gang related excitement I've experienced. :)

I Live in Orlando so I know there are gangs here- but I was driving back into town and was taking the back roads through the center of the state south to north. This is mostly small town, rural farm workers. Well I come up on a town about 60 miles south of Orlando and saw my first MS13 tag. Then it dawned on me that every town I went through was a migrant worker haven. These towns are 90% hispanic as there are/were tons of Ag and Fruit picking jobs...

Made me glad I dont live in a farm town anymore- and that I was protected just in case

the media and police will have you beleive that gangs are all over the place here in the S.E. Va area but yet I dont see them. Perhaps they define a gang as 2 kids causing trouble.

I grew up in LA county in an mixed community, but more of an asian area.

once upon a time i was associated with this crowd because of school and the fact that some of them were my friends and neighbors.

From what i observed in my youth i noticed that Asian gangs don't care about other people and for the most part won't do anything to them, rather they have their "own war" they think of themselves as "soldiers".

none the less the gang bangers that i knew a while back had some serious weapons.

although this may seem kind of dumb to some its not such a bad idea because game makers tried to make the guns as realistic as possible interms of quality: they often chose their weapons based on video games in particular a game call Counter-strike...the ease of use and effective nature of the gun was taken into account, so many of the guns they had were of the m4 or mp5 variety. All had body armor of some sort and the hand guns they chose were either glocks or usps and even the desert eagle however the DE was abandon due to its true impractical nature

this is just my view...i'm glad i don't associate with these people anymore

good luck to all of you in dangerous places

Well, with a gang related shooting across the street from my apartment last night.....I would have to say: YES!

I do have a MN permit and a New Hampshire permit, but that kind of means nothing when I go to school in NYC. Oh and the school specifically bans students from carrying pepper spray. So what can you do? Pray you don't get shot walking back from classes. :banghead:

Ya know, they just don't bother me. I look em in the eye and I treat them the way I'd treat anyone else. Not that they deserve it, but I just do.

I think they realize that I'm not afraid and that scares them to some degree. They just figure there must be a reason I shouldn't be toyed with.

It's one thing to run into bangers at the gas station at 3 in the afternoon. It's another to run into them inside your house or outside a club at two in the morning. You aren't getting messed with because you don't instigate, and I would be that you don't go where trouble is likely to start.

99% of the time nobody will screw with you. But for the 1%, have the proper mindset and be ready.

Noticeable gang activity.

No extra locks.

I keep the door deadbolted at all times, and would do that even if I lived in an area considered to be completely safe.

Common sense but not "serious" precautions.
