Are there universities that don't prohibit CCW?

The-Fly, I thought CSU prohibited students from CCWing but allowed faculty and staff.

It is not, as best i can tell, illegal to CCW where I work (in a PA university). However, I believe (again, I don't know--I've never seen a policy) that I could be fired. Students are absolutely prohibited.

It is explicitly allowed at the University of Utah, as well as every other public school in Utah. This includes every level of education, elementary through university.

Like atomicferret said, we've got it in Utah. CCW for students in any state owned college. Private colleges can still forbid it.

We also allow it in elemenatary-high school for the responsible adults that work there.

It was a battle to get this. We've been fighting the UofU admin for years, and this last year they tried it again, and we smacked them down again.

Now, those of you in other states need to harrass the hell out of your legislature about why Utah loves their children more than your state loves theirs.

Seriously, now is the time to push this. Attack your state legislature. Demand to know why they insist on having hunting preserves for psychos. Demand to know why they insist on following the same idiotic policy that resulted in the VT massacre. And when they protest that it wouldn't be safe, point out that they do it in Utah, and have not had a problem.

The genie is out of the bottle.

If 10,000 people in every CCW state in the country were to bug their state reps in the next few weeks, I'm willing to be that we could gain several more state school systems allowing CCW. If those same people would print up unsigned letters, and take them to their friends who're too lazy/apathetic to do this, get them signed, and then mailed off to the respective reps, then you damn well better believe that you would get CCW in school.

Every argument that can be brought up against it can be defeated. Those of us who went through the committee meetings in Utah can give you advice and talking points.

If you can't be bothered to bug your reps about this, then you can't complain on the internet when CCW isn't allowed in your schools.

Correia, my wife and I took your message to heart--we have already contacted our representatives on this issue, requesting them to advance legislation that would prevent Universities from making policies that prevent legal concealed carry. We'll keep after 'em.

Awesome.

I'm teaching CCW for free to college students, faculty, and staff now, in order to try to spread the word.

If all of us push this issue, and there is enough anger and momentum behind it, then we shouldn't have to watch massacres like VT unfold ever again.

You are correct. It is 100% legal to carry at a University in PA. However, I’m sure there is a rule against it. And students are absolutely prohibited ONLY by university rules, not by law. You could be fired, they can be expelled.

Despite it not being illegal, colleges here seem to like posting up signs that say there are criminal penalties for CCW on campus. One of these days, I'm going to make a sign that says "It is illegal to think for yourself while on campus. Violators will be prosecuted." and tape it up over one of those signs.

Haha, I like it...

To the best of my knowledge, the only anti gun rule CSU has is that no firearms in the dorms. When I got my permit, I emailed the CSU PD from an anonymous account, and the chief himself replied back and said with a valid permit, your allowed to carry. I never told him if it I was staff or a student, so I am fairly sure it doesn't matter what category your in.

Additionally, a few years ago when they had that rapist running loose on campus, the school newspaper talked about how some students were getting permits and carrying.

Here's some links regarding that.

That is good to know. I plan on going to CSU in a year or two, and while I will still be too young to get a CCW, at least I know that until I turn 21, there are some people around who could stop a threat if need be.
