Are you, or have you ever been, a hooker?

Hooker" in this case meaning one who hooks his/her off hand trigger finger around the trigger guard for added push/pull steadiness when firing a pistol.

I'm a hooker, and proud of it. I know it's not in vogue anymore, but it works for me, so I use it.

Any other hookers here?

I do with my PM9 b/c its so small.
I dont think Ive every done it with my XD9, the double stack grip gives me plenty to hold on to.

I have tried both ways and they both work for me just fine as long as you don't tork your finger. Sort of helps steady the weapon for me.

When I first switched from revolvers to autos, the shape and texture on front of the GLOCK trigger guard was way too inviting for me not to try it. Though I soon learned better, so it didn't last long.

I was a hooker but I kinda taught myself out of the habit.

I had no idea how to properly hold a gun back then so hooking was something that felt natural with my CZ 122 sport. Cant tell if it did anything with accuracy because I was a lowsy shooter then (maybe still )

I inhaled but didn't like it. IMO it actually weakens the grip of your support hand around the fingers of your shooting hand.

I hook on my contender but only because if I take a normal 2 handed grip my fingers get pinched during recoil , I think they sorted this on the G2 and the Encore by giving more space between the grip and the trigger guard .
It sucks but you get used to it .

When I first started shooting a lot of years back my Steyr GB had a great trigger guard for hooking, so I hooked. Early on I spent a camping/shooting weekend with a bunch of folks, two of whom were former Green Berets. They taught me how to really shoot. They had my finger down off that trigger guard in a heartbeat, and it hasn't been back since. Every time it went back up it was "down and give me twenty"

For me the finger on the trigger guard can pull shots and also degraded the vertical placement rather than improved it.

Depends on the pistol (sq.guard or not) and if I'm just plinking. It certainly was in vogue (see Armand Swenson's custom guns) and some of the top pistoleros recommended it. IIRC, Mickey Fowler was one top-gun who used this method very successfully. Now-a-days, my regimen doesn't include that grip....

never hooked because my hands aren't big enough. the only two people i've seen hook were people who consistently shot left of center.

I admit, I had to look at this thread just from the title, knowing it would be nothing about the 'hookers' that I get to deal with, but no, was never taught to do it that way.

To the actual question, when I first got my Blackhawk in .30carbine I hooked the trigger guard, it just seemed to happen naturally.
Nothing bad happened, but I've since read that's a bad idea so I'm working on my grip.
