Are you Paranoid?

I'm not paranoid, but I am prepared. I live in the woods with very few neighbors, to my left it's 1 1/2 miles to my nearest neighbor. I can shoot any gun I want, when I want. Now I would be paranoid if I lived in a subdivision, close to other people with 12ga shotguns loaded with slugs and various other powerful guns. I'd be more worried about being shot by accident by a neighbor than a thief.

I knew a lady with paranoid schizophrenia, thats paranoid.
I'm just knowledgeable about the reality of threats and I prepare myself to face them.

I was going through the "how close is your HD gun right now?" thread in the strategies section and it got me thinking. i regularly sit on my couch with my gun next to me or on me....just like most of you. Do your friends, family, coworkers, or whoever knows you own firearms think you are paranoid? Do they think you are prepared for something that wont ever happen to you?

I have a firearm in the nightstand loaded, one in the kitchen, one in the garage stashed, and one on my body. All of them are loaded ready to go to work if need be. My family and people who know I own guns, but dont know where they are, think I am way to paranoid..personally? I think I am prepared.

You?

Joe
My wife used too till the outbreaks of crime in DFW and our own county.
I was never a boy scout but I was taught the BSA motto " Be Prepared." I might be like an LEO friend of mine who spent 30 years on his local PD and pulled his gun twice and never shot anybody. He was a serious shooter who shot 50 rounds a week and had his own hogan's alley on his property. Or I might be like Col Cooper and Texas Lawmen like Bill Jordan and many others.

Always better safe than sorry and an ounce of Prevention beats a pound of cure.

Your not Paranoid just prepared.

Now that I think about it.....if I see a spider in my bed, but cannot find it when I come back with a rolled up magazine to swat it....then I get paranoid. I do not like spiders......

.....besides that, not in the least :p

I like to be prepared.
I enjoy all disciplines of shooting...even archery.
I am interested in guns, like some people are with cars or motorcycles.
I like to hunt.
I like to compete in shooting sports.
I have a great interest in history, and the guns of the past.
I like to collect different guns for different purposes.
-----as for being paranoid----
We dont even lock our doors at night (stupid...gonna change that)
All my guns are locked up except .22mag revolver for pest control(back door gun)
--Over the years we have had several "scary situations" that I could list...none of them needed a gun to resolve.
I admit we have been lucky.
I admit we don't live in the city.

Definitions are questionable in subjective discussions. I find my neighbors most of who do not own a gun, think that anyone who does is paranoid. And that bad things don't happen to them. So they feel anyone with a firearm is paranoid if they believe that someone is going to break in and rob them or worse. Now I live in a fairly affluent community where most people have more than 1 home. When I lived in a more mixed, middle class neighborhood, most folks have a gun in the house. So I must assume that call it prepared or paranoid, people who posses guns for home defense, are looked upon as being more paranoid than those who feel there is no reason to posses them. Now comparing them to a fire extinguisher is not relevant in this connotation. if you are with a bowling team, they would all think that you should have your own ball. The general population, "not the sportsmen" who are not into shooting, don't think the same way. Also neither do most affluent folks. There are people in my development that have gasped at the mere mention of having a gun in the house.I would never feel comfortable without having a handgun in my home, and have done so for 40 years. But that's just me and when I was younger I had to depend on my weapon on more than 1 occasion to save my life, so maybe I am biased. If you know that "bad exhists" are you paranoid preparing for it."judge not lest you be judged"

Our news station here in sprinfield mo shows crimes that have happened in real time and honestly anybody who lives in this area and doesnt carry or haves stashes of guns is a idiot imho. I dont care what my neighbors, friends, coworkers, family, etc. thinks about my gun setup or the fact that i carry. Its my god given right to defend myself, family, friends, law abiding citizens, etc and anybody who thinks otherwise can go to hell lol.

No one is questioning your rights. But unless you are a LEO, it's not your right to defend anyone other than someone who is in your presence if and when someone puts your life or the life of a loved one at risk. And that has nothing to do with the Neuro surgeon, the pro hocky player, or the software developer who as my neighboors, think it's not something they are interested in. They are all intelligent people entitled to their own opinion and real people who I have tried to get to go to the range, . I even asked in our newsletter if anyone was interested, and offered to let them use my guns and teach them basics. So far a few guys said they might like to go, but nothing concrete. I figured the best way to introduce shooting was to start a club here in my development and make it an activity. But this is getting off topic.

Am I paranoid?

Why? Who told you to ask me that question? Who are you working for?

:D :D :D

I have insurance on my home, car and life. I have a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit in my car. I have an alarm on my house.

And I carry concealed wherever it is allowed by law, for the same reasons why I do all the other activities I mentioned. To quote Michael Bane (who was quoting someone else), "Why should I be paranoid? After all, I've got a gun."

I avoid the local evening news for the shear fact im afraid it WILL make me paranoid.

I wont leave my house without my ccw, Nor will i go anywhere i cant carry it. Unless its a Federal Building or Bar both of which i rarely go to, Especially bars as thats just an accident waiting to happen.

Matter of fact my CHL has cut my drinking down by 97% and i wasn't a heavy drinker. On my own personal convictions i wont carry while having 2 or more drinks at home and then leaving, So i tend to just not do it.

I also wont sleep anywhere i cant have my gun next to me.
Its a dangerous world out there and anyone who thinks differently is blind, If that makes me paranoid so be it.

Does this mean my 64 year old mom in a hospital bed and on oxygen and has a Walther PPS9 12" from her hand paranoid?
I dont think so, I think she's a very brave lady.

1st time poster here
let me quote this
"Paranoia is only smart thinking When the whole world is out to Get You" Dr Johnny Fever WKRP Cincinnati

I know of an individual who bought a PALLET of .22LR. Something like 100"bricks" of it that is stored in his basement. The reasoning is that in a total economic collapse they will become very valuable as barter items.

Quote: "I'm not paranoid, I just know there are people who want to see me dead"

RETG, what are you a famous card cheat or something???

Anyway, I actually like carrying a gun, I don't do it because I feel I have to, I do it because I enjoy it, and am fascinated by guns. I must admit, I am a pretty tense guy and do startle a little easier than others, but I like tot think I am an intelligent enough person to stay out of situations that would dictate being shot or having to shoot, but if the situation dictates otherwise, the scales are tipped in my favor because I usually carry 2 guns with extra mags, but I honestly don't care one way or another if someone thinks I'm paranoid, maybe one day they'll eat their words while I save their ass.....who knows, who cares

Nobody who's ever called me paranoid or implied that I was for owning or carrying guns has ever taken me up on my offer to be my unarmed human shield, including my mother.

If you want me to give up the means to defend myself from unlawful use of deadly force (and I've got plenty of documented threats from neo-Nazis), you must first assume PERSONAL responsibility for my physical safety as a substitute.

If you're not going to hire me an armed bodyguard, or at least throw yourself in front of me when danger presents itself, SHUT UP AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.
