Its renewal time for USPSA but why bother when you can't get he ammo you need for matches and practice. Yes I have ammo but I can't replace what I shoot. I did get one box today but even if I can get 3 boxes a week that just doesn't cover my needs. I blame the Democrats and their fear mongering and threats against gun owners.

It is going to start affecting more and more people. I agree that people should buy what they want and according to some is ok but people buying it up just to fill their basement or so they can sit on it does have a real impact on other people. I have been less likely to go shooting and take others. I have a supply of ammo but I know that it is not replacable right now and I don't know when it will be.

1 box per day at my PRIVATE club for 9mm. Just got a new SIG P2022 and had to scrounge my own stash to get 200 rounds to break it in - agreed it is VERY hard to replace.

It's not Democrats. Why doesn't anyone understand this isn't a partisan issue? Stop making this a black and white issue. There are plenty of friends and foes of the Second Amendment on both sides.

And by non-partisan, I mean it's a fundamental right in the same vein as the First Amendment. Any I do understand "most" Democrats endorse more strict gun control than republicans, but don't forget that both sides have trampled on the Bill of Rights in the past 100 years.

The main point is there are some pro-gun Democrats - don't go blaming everyone when we need everyone possible on our side.

Back on track - Does anyone know where the ammo is going?
Are the government orders sucking it up?

Or, is it being bought up by horders or people who are now shooting way more? Does anyone know someone who is out shooting more? I know some new gun buyers and I assure you they are not responsible since they can not buy any to shoot in their new guns.

Or is it just not being produced?

When I ask at the stores they say we are not getting as much in and if we do people come by right away and buy it all up.

It was just about mid-December when I decided to finally practice small bore pistol competition shooting at one of the clubs I belong to but now that I can't find ammo that is essentially shelved. By this time last year I had put several thousand rounds down range, not nearly as much this year.

Puts a new perspective on who 'needs' more ammo. Perhaps the person with 2000 rounds of 9mm 'needs' some more 9mm ammo less than the person who can not get any, such as strut or balki. Need is not the same as want.

I've got a bunch of .22lr and a new set of Tech Sights on a 10/22. I am going to shoot just enough to get it zeroed in. Then stop.

I've got a new .243 and 100 rounds for it. I am going to shoot just enough to get the scope zeroed in. Then stop.

I have enough 9mm to go shooting probably once to remain nominally proficient and have a comfortable amount left over. Then stop.

So I'll make three trips to the range this summer and that's maybe about it. Probably take a fourth trip up to take the Utah permit class so I can Carry in Ohio and WV (which I can't do with my Indiana License) even though I probably won't have enough ammo to shoot there.

Sold my AR because I knew I couldn't feed it at the rate it ate.

My summer is now much changed from what I had planned. Not so much because of gun control per se, but because of the ammo shortage.

Sounds about right. I've got a pretty good stock of ammo myself, but it's not replaceable, so I'll probably take a few more trips out to the range, and no more.

Luckily, it's getting to be golf weather again. But hell, I go through balls almost as fast as .22LR.

I'm not going to jump into the fray, but just wanted to say thanks for giving your thread an apt description. Too many out there express outrage or frustration with no details in the title, then I enter it only to find that it's like the dozens of others we've seen this year.

They just opened a new SHOOT STRAIGHT store and gun range in Fort Lauderdale this morning. The place was full of shoppers, most with the limited 1 box of 22lr bulk and the 2 9mm boxes.

It was strange, the guy in front of me in line was excited to finally find some 9mm. The older guy behind was saying he can't shoot anymore but he was buying just as much ammo.

Me, I got a bulk box of 22lr and then swept the casings off the range floor. A nice new range, good lighting and air conditioning. The store personnel were polite and friendly for such a large crowd.

The best thing is they seem to have moderate to good stock levels, at least on opening day. It's close enought that it may become my new favorite hangout. If they keep the ammo in stock and at a decent price I might purchase an annual membership and shoot there all the time. Heck they even had 25RD mags for my H&K MP5SD in stock!

Ammo is scarce around here, but I have been able to find some. 9mm and .45 seem to be reasonably available, I've been able to shoot a box or two a week. I haven't seen a box of .22 LR in quite a while though. For whatever reason, 7.62x39, .40, and .17 seem to be regularly available and at close to normal prices. 9mm has been running me about 30 dollars per hundred and .45 about 22/50.

I've been doing the obsessive cleaning bit with the sidearm and dry firing practice. Have enough for 2 range sessions of target ammo, but not going to touch the SD ammo for range practice.

Just have to wait and see, buy here and there as it becomes available. My LGS/range is out of ammo and hardware. It's like they've packed-up to move.

The problem is that when ammo is available, there's no reason to not buy as much as you can so you don't have to keep going through the hassle.

For example, I purchased 400rds of 308 (Could have bought 4000), although that's enough to last me a year or so. I don't need it right now, but it was available at a decent price, why buy again later.

Same with components like primers. 10,000 small pistol primers will last us a year, so I don't need them all right now, but why go through the hassle later?

The problem exacerbates itself, since it's not worth going through the hassle so people buy more than they need at the time. I'm able to check websites and get notifications frequently, so I'm able to find just about anything within a week or two, but other people don't have that kind of flexibility.

Not to mention the other unlicensed individuals who are buying bulk and reselling locally for 100%+ margin. Would love to get a copy of their ID and submit to local and federal tax authorities...

I have slowed down a bit but I reload also. As long as my primers hold out I will be shooting centerfire for a long while yet. I have enough .22 bulk to shoot a carton every weekend for the next 3 years at least. And no I did not buy it all up on you.:banghead: I would buy 2 and shoot one, repeating this many times over the last 15-20 years or so. I do truly feel for those new shooters that were late to the game. Some have been saying they were going to get into shooting for years now. But oh well.

There just isn't any bulk ammo available on any kind of reasonable basis or in any quantity.. My local Academy gets bulk ammo every now and then but if you are not the first one in line chances are you will miss out. I guess sometimes you win it all and some days you have to consider yourself lucky to get one box of ammo.

You have to have ammo to shoot and there has to be ammo available to replace what you shoot and that doesn't exist.
