Arizona Prepares For Secession

This is exactly the message States need to send. There might just be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel if more join in, particularly southern states.

Seems like a good idea at the on-set.

But all good things have a bad side:

Expect to go through customs any time leaving the state of AZ.
"Papers please" will be a reality to go to any "State of the US"
What resources does AZ have? Can you be self sufficient or will you be dependent on "Foreign Trade" (the US)?
What is the reality of this happening? I'd say slim.
What is the reality of conflict with the Feds if AZ does realistically attempt to seccede? I'd say 100%

I've said before that if a state seceeds, I'll move there, and I mean it even though it'll take some convincing to bring my wife. Then, I thought, what if it's California that does it? On the one hand, it's California. On the other hand, I'd still be sticking it to the federal government. Hmm, I think I'd move. Better a smaller socialist state than a socialist behemoth is DC.

I remember this story from before.
I get the feeling that it's not so much a plan for immediate action as it is a resolution or message to the feds....kinda like the one the Montana state legislature sent to the feds saying basically, "if you want to send in F-troop or any other agency, you must get the OK of the County Sheriff first..."

Nice idea, though.

Secession per se means nothing. How many on this board want to move to MA, MD, NJ, IL, or CA if they secede? Lunacy. A concept like this would require a very large critical mass of right-thinking people for it to be viable. Those of you envisioning a Luxembourg or even a Switzerland in the middle of Quasi-Socialist America are dreaming. Now if two hundred million people start saying no to subsidizing the rest, maybe...

Arizona. Secession. Right. Wasn't there a pretty good dustup over this sort of thing a while back? You know--the one with all the monuments and battlefields and stuff?

D'oh. I didn't notice the date. I wonder why it took so many years for me to hear about this?

In any case, I understand it is (was) a symbolic gesture. It's still a pretty damn cool symbolic gesture tho.

If TX went along.....would Texas be Texazona or East Arizona after the name change? Hey...I just realized....no more Duck stamps!

I like the idea of having the kind of legislation on the books for all 50 states.

Then again....all the illegals would have to drive and walk al ot farther to actually break in the United States. Pretty inconvenient.

If TX went along with AZ...

It seems to me it migh be nice to invite NM to the party. :scrutiny:
You guys looked at a map lately or am I missing something?

You guys are missing the point!

This is not about the US becoming two nations, although that might not be so bad, nor is it about each state becoming a nation (balkanization).

What this is about is the revolution the founders were all expecting. No one thought the republic would last this long. Historically, free states always become corrupted at some point and need to be replaced.

We are talking about a CLEAN BOOT for our constitutional republic! A fresh start. Scrap the US Code. Scrap the bureaucracy. Scrap the regulations. Scrap the federal police. Start over with a congress, a president, nine justices, and fifty sovereign states.

Something like this is the only possible good end to the spiral our nation has been in for the past 150 years that I can imagine.

I hope it shall come to pass and that the fears (our fears too) that give rise for seccession will never bear fruition. It would be a great victory for Bin Laden & his allies and a rather bloodless one too.

I won't take any of this seriously until Arizona drags John McCain back and hangs him. If they would and other states did the same thing maybe sucession wouldn't be needed.

corncob, et al,

Much as I like the premise, the "several 50 states" are adept enough to violate our rights w/o the feds' involvement- sad to say.

The issue is whether, as we are now, we can defeat the Bin Ladens of the world and the "Bin Ladens" inside our own society. I've come, reluctantly, to doubt it. We have (at least) two nations now, often working at cross purposes. At some point we will have to face the political reality of that.

Defeating the enemy by becoming the enemy is no victory (although that appears, oddly, to be the strategy of the Republican Party when it comes to illegal immigration).

longeyes. Funny you should put it that way.

Was driving to The 'Springs yesterday surfing the AM band & heard some lady being interviewed by some guy. She was discussing an upcoming "march for life" being held at the CO state capitol bldg - an anti-abortion-thing.

Even she mentioned the conflicting nature of the two camps & the upcoming conflict. Mention of 600K killed in the last national conflict caught my ear.

There's an extreme polarity between folks in this nation & I see it everwidening - along a very diverse nature.

Labgrade,

Yes, big schism today. And both sides claim the same agenda: Take Back America.

It is going to be hard to act as if we are one big happy America when about 50 per cent of the potential electorate is going to be mad as hell over who is elected this year.

Sometimes the gap gets to be big to be bridged. I fear we are there.
