I had two... Showed pics of the one. I dug out its sister.... I was trying to remember if I shot n added the MVA sights to the prettier one or the ugly one. I can't decide which is which now

I like the grain on the one with the tang sight better, but I certainly wouldn't call the other one ugly at all!

that is quite the compliment... thank you ... You owe it to yourself to get your first one Both Number 1 Sporters with 30" heavy 45/70 barrels and pewter forend tips. If I were to get another I think lighter barrel would be nice for hunting and after these 45/70 I would not mind larger n smaller chamberings....

I think Chiappa makes one in some shorter cartridges...I'm thinking something like .44-40 or .45 colt

Mine are the ugly ones. Military style 1863 carbines. No frills, just cavalry trooper equipment tuned for competition.

I have an ugly one also. 1863 Shiloh. My old eyes have trouble with the small sights but it groups well.
