Armscor AK22: What did I get myself into?

I was at the local gun store this morning when one of these hit me (literally). it fell from the rack and hit me in the back of the leg. I think it was a sign.

I'm new to this stuff but I thought it was a funny looking thing, had a sister gun that looked like a M16 but the whole upper from the carry handle to barrel was a little lopsided (looked it anyways) so I picked up the Ak22, liked the weight and looked pretty fun...

Long story short, I bought it

What did I walk myself into? I did a little search, not a lot of input aside they're fun plinkers

I've got the M1600, the pistol grip was cheap and I had to install a real AR15 grip. I put thousands of rounds through it no problem, the novice shooters I take out love the ???? out of it but it's know where close the real thing.
I think the AK has the same action. This site may have some info

Just make sure you don't confuse it with the real AK when SHTF !!

i used to have an ak22 as a kid i liked it alot and put cases of ammo through it. i just wish it had more capcity, i never could find extra mags for them, but they were excellent shooters though and alot of fun.

So how much did you pay for it? Last time I've seen any 22 AK look alikes they want just as much for a real one.

back about 5 years ago my dad bought mine new for $99, which ii thought wasn't to bad of a deal. it was worth that in fun over the years.

Here's a part of a review from Gun-Tests magazine where thay compared it against a Ruger 10/22 and a Marlin 70 papoose.

Armscor AK22, .22 LR, $269

We found that the AK22 was bulkier than either the Marlin or Ruger products. This was primarily due to its overall height, accented by the removable magazine, pistol grip, and tall sights.

The finish and machining were adequate, we thought. Not so much that the gun was ugly, but we would say that the Armscor AK22 was closer to a mess kit than to fine china. The stock was blond wood, and the wood pistol grip was a little loose. Parts of the forend were also wobbly. The trigger, however, was exceptionally smooth. Internally the bolt looked sturdy and smooth. The feed ramp looked precise as well. If the exterior of this gun was marginal, then most of the time spent on this gun was on its action.

At the range we discovered that we liked the sights on the AK22 better than the buckhorn-type sights on the Marlin 70PSS or the filament sights found on the Ruger 10/22CRR.

The Armscor AK22 might be intimidating cosmetically, but it was a pleasure to shoot.

I got a gun, 2 bricks of ammo, a case, two spare magazines, and one useless $15 gun lock that I can return for total of $350 (tax, dros, red tape applied)

Some people would say you are silly for paying that much for a .22.
