It looks like in a "war" (as defined by none other than Herr Shrub) you don't want to offend the enemy.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Israeli-made bullets bought by the U.S. Army to plug a shortfall should be used for training only, not to fight Muslim guerrillas in Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. lawmakers told Army generals on Thursday.

Since the Army has other stockpiled ammunition, "by no means, under any circumstances should a round (from Israel) be utilized," said Rep. Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii, the top Democrat on a House of Representatives Armed Services subcommittee with jurisdiction over land forces.

The Army contracted with Israel Military Industries Ltd. in December for $70 million in small-caliber ammunition.

The Israeli firm was one of only two worldwide that could meet U.S. technical specifications and delivery needs, said Brig. Gen. Paul Izzo, the Army's program executive officer for ammunition. The other was East Alton, Illinois-based Winchester Ammunition, which also received a $70 million contract.

Although the Army should not have to worry about "political correctness," Abercrombie was making a valid point about the propaganda pitfalls of using Israeli rounds in the U.S.-declared war on terror, said Rep. Curt Weldon, the Pennsylvania Republican who chairs the subcommittee on tactical air and land forces.

"There's a sensitivity that I think all of us recognize," Weldon told the Army witnesses, including Maj. Gen. Buford Blount, who led the U.S. Third Infantry Division that captured Baghdad in April 2003.

Blount, now the Army's assistant deputy chief of staff, said the Army had sufficient small caliber ammunition -- 5.56mm, 7.62mm and .50 caliber -- to conduct current operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

But taken together with training needs, the United States had strained its production facilities, he testified.

"To fight a major combat operation in another theater will require the Army to impose restrictions on training expenditures and to focus current inventory and new production on combat operations," Blount said.

As a result, he said the Army hoped to stretch U.S. supplies to supplement the capacity of the government-owned Lake City plant in Independence, Missouri, that currently makes more than 90 percent of U.S. small caliber ammunition.

The Lake City factory, operated by Alliant Techsystems Inc., has nearly quadrupled its production in the past four years. This year, it will produce more than 1.2 billion rounds, Karen Davies, president of the ATK arm that runs it, told the panel. Lake City provided more than 2 billion rounds a year during World War II and Vietnam, she said.

The Army's needs will grow to about 1.5 billion to 1.7 billion rounds a year in coming years, Blount said.

"In the near-term, balancing training requirements with current operational needs is a manageable risk-mitigation strategy," he said.

The Army does not want to repeat its history of building capacity during wartime "only to dismantle it in peacetime," Blount added.

I suppose it would be inconsiderate to shoot them with Jewish made ammunition.

Seriously though, we have enough accusations of being part of some "vast zionist conpiracy" as it without being actually supplied by Israel.

You have to be s---ting me!!! Who cares how the bast@rds die--so long as they die. I am still in favor of the 'dip 'em in pig fat before loading up' idea. Sounds reasonable to me.

This story is just one of the dumbest things I've ever heard...

I have to agree. I'd be happy if we could find a way to put pig entrails in our bullets. No reason to send them to their great afterlife.

I wonder if we had such sissy politicians during WWII? Would it have been disrespectful to nazis if our guys shot them with ammo and bombs made by Jews, Blacks, and Gypsies, and the other assorted nonaryans who lived in the US?

Maybe we should start dropping politicians on targets instead of bombs.:fire:

Where is Gen. "Black Jack" Pershing when you REALLY need him? ? ?
May more of them get the reward of 72.....

(I cannot claim credit for the following story...was forwarded to me by someone else, and I don't know the origin)

After his death, Osama bin Laden went to heaven. There he was greeted by George Washington, who proceeded to slap him across his face and yell at him, "How dare you try to destroy the nation I helped conceive!"

Patrick Henry approached and punched Osama in the nose and shouted, "You wanted to end our liberties but you failed."

James Madison entered, kicked Osama in the groin and said, "This is why I allowed our government to provide for the common defense!"

Thomas Jefferson came in and proceeded to beat Osama many times with a long cane and said, "it was evil men like you that provided me the inspiration to pen the Declaration of Independence!"

These beatings and thrashings continued as John Rudolph, James Monroe and 66 other early Americans came in and unleashed their anger on the Muslim terrorist leader.

As Osama lay bleeding and writhing in unbearable pain, an Angel appeared. Bin Laden wept and said to the Angel, "This is not what you promised me!"

The Angel replied, "I told you there would be 72 Virginians waiting for you in heaven. What did you think I said?"

I'm sure the moslems would be upset over ammo from Israel. After all, they're still mad about the crusades a thousand years ago, like it was last week. Logic and common sense doesn't apply to their way of thinking.

So the ammo made in Illinois will be sent to Irag, and the ammo made in Israel will be sent to bases in the US for training? Maybe this guy needs a few thousand polite notes.

What has this world come to? Why are we trying to appease the same people who are trying to kill us. It's stupid things like this that can get American's killed. Simply idiotic.

Jewish bullets? Great Satan's bullets? Dead is dead isn't it?:D

Maybe we should really insult them and use Wolf on them. Then they'd know we really thought they weren't even worth shooting with brass cased ammo.

W4rma has a point. If we believe the many reports of Iraqi citizens supporting our presence in Iraq instead of the endless negativism from some news/political sources then not everyone there is the enemy. Not even the majority of people there are. Then why would you not want to show respect our friends who are subject to threats of death by Islamic terrorists by avoiding using something as symbolic as ammuniton supplied by a country they have a beef with. Friendly fire includes civilians that support us.

hso I understand your point. But Israel made the ammo with full knowledge that it could be used in combat against a country or counties who are against them. I am sure that no secret of where this ammo would be used was made or needed to be made. Their ammo would be used to kill terrorists, foreign and domestic and in numerous counties.

I'd like to visit Lake City sometime, although I doubt they would allow it any more.
1.2 *billion* rounds of ammo this year. At 24 hours a day, seven days a week, that's
38 rounds a second. And they did *more* during WWII.

Dip em in pig ???? first

:cuss:
If they don't want to be intruded bodily by something a Israli has touched, simply dip the ends in pig ???? then it shouldn't be a concern.
While I'm fired up, those beheading cowards need this for their beheadings:
Like in the movie Silence of the Lambs II where Hannibal goes to the Italians Pig farm and they house those unfed angry boar hogs that their owner had planned to feed hannibal to, an inch at a time.
Take the terrorists if caught and hang them over a pit of the same pigs hang them by their hands then lower then down to feet level and let the hogs chew a bit & raise em back up for a brief spell, then lower even more till the hogs get th their itty bitty balls then drop em in all the way.
 :neener: :what: :uhoh:

Is that stuff head stamped in any way? Might be more economical to ship Winchester or lake City boxes to Israel than to have all the ammo passing like two ships in the night as it crosses the great pond.

Question:
Who is "the enemy"?

Answer:
The international islamofascist terrorists and their domestic lapdogs and sympathizers of the liberal left.

BTW, the "order" not to use Israeli manufactured "bullets" is probably just misinformation disseminated to appease said domestic enemies. It would be great to know a Marine, after shooting some terrorist, walked up to him just before he died and said in Arabic "I just killed you with an Israeli bullet".

I suppose there are a lot of supply ships that are coming back to the US from that area, but it still seems like a huge waste to ship tons of .223 ammo all the way over here and then use it for training. I just don't get it.

hso I understand your point. But Israel made the ammo with full knowledge that it could be used in combat against a country or counties who are against them.

Thats kinda the point. We do not need the appearance of fighting Israel's battles by proxy.
