Uhhhh...."The Purloined Letter" was written by Edgar Allan Poe and had nothing to do with Sherlock Holmes. Amateur detective C. Auguste Dupin was the investigator in "The Purloined Letter", "The Murders in the Rue Morgue", and "The Mystery of Marie Roget". All written by Poe.
 
Like many others in this thread, I keep my pistol on me as long as I'm dressed. Long guns are locked in the safe, if I need them, it only takes me 10 seconds to get in. Other pistols are in a different safe in a different part of the house.

I keep a spare mag in my pocket ever since the how much ammo thread :D

A pistol is for fighting your way back to your rifle/shotgun.

I have kids, or else I'd probably have a shotgun or rifle in each room. The little hands know better than to touch the one on daddy's belt.

I don't. I do happen to have a very new shotgun with 00 buckshot in the bedroom. None of my weapons were made before 2006, and I don't intend on ever buying any that were. So "old" doesn't really apply to them, and won't for a while :)

As for the rest of them, they are where I can get to them when I need to.
 
I like what cornered cat has to say on the subject of carrying your CCW piece around the house.

To me, it makes alot of sense, especially if you have other people in the house, and no matter where you go in your house (minus the shower and bedtime) you have your gun, and you *know* where it is.

Honestly I dont see this as being paranoid, certainly no more than stashing a gun in every room (which costs alot more... gotta have more guns).

I just keep my Makarov condition 3 in my pocket, whenever I get home I almost always change into gym shorts/sweat pants.
 
Just keep one on you and hide the others out of view and out of sight or locked up.

Yeah, pocket carrying that Kahr PM9 around like I do every day is SOOO heavy. My back hurts just thinking about it. Paranoid? Puh-leeze.... It's called CONVENIENT. :rolleyes:

I have three dogs that let me know if someone is even walking by on the sidewalk. The pitch and panic ( of the dogs ) go higher if they walk up to the door. With tempered glass storm door with deadbolt and a solid oak door with no windows in it. I think that would give me time to get to my closest gun.
That is load with 15 in the magazine and two more mags beside it. The rest of my home defence is classified by "Home Land Security" ;)
