Atlantic Arms Saiga Conversion First Shots!!

I have Mosin Nagants that have no doubt fired hundreds or even thousands of rounds of corrosive ammo and I'm sure they have never been cleaned properly. I doubt my AK with its chromed barrel will ever suffer the type of damage they have. Even if they do my Mosins are still great shooters.

That looks like a saiga with a pistol grip. They don't put AKM style foreneds on those "russian ak-47 conversions" ?
No problem if you bought it as just a saiga with a pistol grip though.

Also the Yugo M67 surplus is the best 7.62x39 around.

all you do is clean your guns and its a non-issue

Its an AK47 conversion without doing the front hand guard. The trigger group has been moved and its been modified to accept high capacity AK47 magazines. Personally I think the Saiga front is kind of sleek looking. It also seems to be very sturdy and provides nice protection for the gas tube. Since it is my SHTF rifle (one of them) I figured sturdy is a good thing. Thats why I chose the AK in the first place. Its a fine shooter too.

how difficult exactly is it to remove the front-end furniture? I thought you could just take it off, buy a retainer, and just slide it on. Just curious before I push the 'confirm order' button and find out that its gonna banrupt me to do the small changes to it :p

One screw to take it off.

Dinzag's retainer has it's own screws.

Have fun.

I looked into that a little. The guard is easily removed and Dinzag sells a bolt on front retainer that will make the conversion easily possible. Check out their website.

I was wondering if you were lurking around somewhere!! Thanks for the AK47. I enjoy it immensely.

Good I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm definietly not!

Now I'm waiting for my scope mount to come in. Then I'm going to mount a Nikon scope on it to see what accuracy I can get out of it. The scope will later go on my K31 and the AK will get a nice Red Dot.

I'll post some accuracy results later.

I received my UTG weaver rail mount for my AK. Pretty solid mount. The only half way decent scope I have right now is my Truglo 2x30 red dot. I'll try it out this weekend to see how it works.

how is that weld-on beaded feed ramp exactly? Does it look like something that would eventually wear down enough to cause feeding issues?

MD Willington, the mount I bought is the weaver mount that fits on the side rail. Not the quad rail. It seems like a solid mount. I would prefer it was about a 1/4 inch lower but it will work fine.

RP88, i I posted a good pic of the feed "bump" at the beginning of this thread. I was a bit skeptical of it but the Saiga feeds very, very smoothly. It has been very reliable. You can see in the pic where the bluing, or whatever it is they put on there, wore off after a few shots but it seems quite durable otherwise. I'll have to see how it looks after a couple hundred more rounds. Blaine at Atlantic says they have several of these rifles with a thousand rounds or more through them and it has held up well in them. I'm going to the range tomorrow morning. I bought a Bushnell Trophy Red Dot for the UTG mount. I'll post an accuracy/reliability report of my Saiga and a review of the mount and scope tomorrow. I'm taking 40 rounds or Wolf 122gr JHP, 40 rounds of Wolf 143gr SP, and 20 rounds of Yugo Surplus for the test. I'm also going to put 100 rounds down range in my M&P 9C with the XS sights. Good times, good times.

I think I can answer the question of whether that ramp would wear down now. I've fire about 600 rounds of steel cased wolf through my Saiga and the ramp has NO signs of wear. It has also been 100% reliable. I have no desire to change it now.
