I went to a local gun show today and was looking to sell some .223 ammo. So I go up to one dealer and ask if they buy ammo. The guys asks what I have and I tell him it is some old surplus South African ball. I just want to get rid of it and have 300 rounds and want 20 bucks for it all. He asks to see it and basically before I hand it too him, knocks it out of my hand and says "No way I do not want that cheap a** stuff." So I say ok and start to move on. He then asks what kind of car I drive. I tell him I have a Durango. He then says why, you should drive a Rambler. I do not get the connection and ask what he means. He says "Hey, you shoot cheap ammo so you should drive a cheap car." I stand there for a moment, kind of shocked. Then I regain my senses and say in as loud a voice as I could "Really, well you are ugly and should go f*** yourself cause no one else will." Then I walk away.

I still can not belive this idiot and his attitude. What an a**hole.

I have shot surplus South African .308 ball in my M1A and it seems to be pretty good stuff. I don't think it is cheap junk at all. If you lived in Dallas I would buy the .223 from you as food for my Bushy AR-15.
Ignore the jerk.
Have a Merry CHRISTmas!

Boys and Girls that heavy thud was the sound of Art’s Gramma hitting the floor.

Don’t worry, she’ll bounce back and the next thud will be her smacking the poster. ;)

The South African stuff is a s good as most imported ammo. I wouldn't get too upset with that dealer, a majority are just like that. It's rare when you get one of the good ones.

That really is incredible. I don't understand how someone can reach adulthood and not have a basic understanding of social protocol.

You must remember

Some of the things meaning some types of a humans you run into manning booths at gun shows are about as stupid as you will find manning booths at Malls I think you get my drift. If I see something I wish to know the price I ask if they start giving a rap of BS I just walk away. Being it's a public place I think it's best not to get down to their lever of dumb.

As a counter to your bad attitude encounter, I had a very nice encounter at todays show. I found a nice Garand, completely cleaned and ready for some BLO to be rubbed into the stock. While I was holding hit, an older gentlemen looked at it with me and asked if I knew how to check the internals, I didn't remember how to take it down, so he asked the seller if he could show me, and the seller agreed. So he showed me first hand how to operate the rifle, checked it out with me, told me how to rub in the BLO to get a nice finish, told me how to avoid M1 Thumb, etc, and gave me his card if I needed more help later, and he wasn't even the one selling it! It was a nice change from some of the get out of my way types.

Nice comeback. :uhoh:

While his comment wasn't called for, I don't see where yours was either. Maybe something that would perhaps enlighten other potential customers of this dealers behavior. maybe something along the lines of asking why he found it neccessary to belittel you for asking a simple questionand stereotyping you . Doing this in front of his table in a few notches loader than normal get's peoples attention more so than profanity while making them have a better idea about the dealer's behavior.

Nice comeback. :uhoh:

stole the words right out of my mouth...

There's no point arguing with that dealer. Once he made that comment about the ball ammo you should have walked away and not turn back. When he asked for the type of car you drove you should have kept walking. But calling each other names is stooping down to their level.

JMHO. Have a nice day. :)

I'm going tomorrow. I guess I'll leave the excess ammo home. ;) I wouldn't have responded to his car comment. Life's too short, too many guns to shoot to let an attitude like that to ruin my day. If he's making any such comments tomorrow, I'll just point out to my son, "That's a good example of a jerk." ;)

Did you guys see the thread at ar15.com about the bad attitude dealer and what happened to him?

It was funny, look for the thread title something along the lines of Bad Attitude Gun Dealer has customer go Darth Vader on him.
(I'd link the thread, but I'm at work and arfcom is blocked)

Some people out there. It's almost like some of those dealers think they're doing us a favor by being there and offering their stuff for sale....sheesh. :fire:

$20.00 for 300 rounds of SA .223.
No wonder the guy has a bad attitude,
God or experience hasn't allowed him the good common sense to know a bargain when it is presented.

Moby: Part of me wants to join in the criticism of your comeback & suggested you just walk away....

...but another part is so aggravated that he physically slapped the ammo out of your hand that I'd have probably responded to his car comment with "Well, your wife liked the back seat of my Durango last night..." :neener:

Rudeness is bad enough. Tolerating rudeness is even worse.... :fire:

The trouble with some snappy comebacks, particularly those involving the four-letter copulative verb, is that the recipient might be too stoopid to realize he shouldn't shoot you.

Merely suggest to such a cretin that he should beware upon arriving home; his mother might come out from beneath the porch and bite him. By the time he figures out what was meant, you're three or four tables on down the aisle. :)

I note there are the occasional posters here at THR who show no better manners than that particular gunshow dealer...

I spent too many years working with the public, perhaps that is why I am more tolerant than some folks. I understand some may have been up all night with a sick kid, a spouse with Altheimer's, the teenager had thier vehicle hit in the parking lot while in class, the surgeon / nurse just off a 36 hr marathan shift from hell...

There are Jerks in anything. I "try" to think first ,never react to a person. I can be "tacky and assertive" if need. ;)

Jackie, now passed on was a great waitress, she had Jerks as customer's " gonna kill with nice". She would too, the more ugly the customer became, the more polite she became...most often the offending customer realized all he / she was doing was drawing attention to themselves as to how much of a Jerk they were.

I have witnessed other customers - stepping in and "insisting" the offending customer leave...right that moment, his children, wife ,parents did not want to hear his attitude, and not impressed with the attitude.

Give someone enough rope...

The Arfcom thread is a classic. Dealer chases customer & spins him around, yanks cigar out of the customer's mouth  and yells something that Art's Gramma wouldn't approve. Dealer cocks back but customer applies Darth Vader grip on Dealer's windpipe. Outsiders intervene. No one hurt. Guess what? Customer is also an attorney too. :p

I like my dentist- the last time I needed a filling he told me that I probably wouldn't need anesthetic and he could do the whole procedure in 20 seconds- and by golly he didn't lie to me :)

I have a few gun dealers in my area that I like and trust.

I am very suspicious of anyone I talk to at a gunshow if they are trying to sell me something :uhoh:

I should have kept walking

but sometimes the mouth moves faster than the brain. To stoop to his level did in fact make me no better than him. My bad. The guy is still a jerk. The show was pretty good otherwise.
