Hello, I was looking for information on a knife that I bought at a flea market about a year ago. I was looking all over the internet for information on Michigan knife laws. I stumbled across this forum and it seems to be very active and solid on its information.

I found http://knife-expert.com/mi.txt this and had a question about some of the language it uses.

750.226a. Pocket knife opened by mechanical device...
Any person who shall sell or offer to sell, or
any person who shall have in his possession any knife
having the appearance of a pocket knife, the blade or
blades of which can be opened by a flick of a button,
pressure on a handle or other mechanical contrivance shall
be guilty of a misdemeanor... [Also, concealed carry may
be charged as a felony under 750.227.] The provisions of
this section [750.226a] shall not apply to any one-armed
person carrying a knife on his person in connection with
his living requirements.

From what I understand this is only in regards to a switchblade that is deceptive and looks like a normal pocket knife? I have attached pictures of my knife. Please let me know what you think of my interpretation of this language and whether or not you believe I am in violation of the law in Michigan. I do not plan on carrying this knife, it is just for show and I keep it at my residence at all times.

SaintFaceless - I believe the law is just covering anything that looks like a knife, which has a blade deployed by a button or some mechanical device - is illegal.

So, I believe it is illegal.

Switchblades are illegal in Michigan to possess or carry.

If the knife has a button that pushing it causes it to open you have a switchblade.

I agree with the other responses, but I'm not sure you even own a switchblade because I don't see anything like a button on it. How does it open?

It appears to have an index flip, but it can be dual action - maybe pics of the other side and action while blade is out could help...
