"autoloaders are for incompetents"

I wouldn't say autopistols are for incompetents...

...since I own (and carry seriously) a couple two-three of them myself.

I might agree 'high capacity magazines in minor calibers' are the refuge of those who don't shoot so well. (Which by the way includes police 'administrators' who saddle otherwise competent and knowledgeable lawmen with such devices.)

I have no qualms about carrying a double action revolver of good quality to defend life and limb. I don't plan on engaging in a battalion sized firefight whilst shopping, going to the movies or attending church. Frankly, an assailant who attacks me with a large ammunition supply weapon is going to have to get me with the first couple shots. If he doesn't, he's going down with a nearly full magazine. It is only hits that count.

Good comments have been made about the 'single issue' experts; those who think the one single answer to the one single problem they ever had will serve for everything.

I suggest people read as much as they can of the writings of the late Charles A. "Skeeter" Skelton. He was a police officer, a Border 'Troll, a DEA agent, a rancher-cowboy and a handgun hunter. I think he did a little competition shooting and I know he was a serious plinker. In other words, the man knew about all sorts of handguns and what they could do. There are a couple others as well.

Autopistols fill certain function needs. So do revolvers.

Hey ; I like and have carried both....the character referenced in this posting definitely sounds like someone I 'd not get along with though...

>he happily showed me what he meant by "gut-buster" by drawing on me and pointing it at my guts multiple times<

I may be wrong, but I do believe that any time a weapon is pointed at a person, they can be charged with "Assault with a deadly weapon". Personally, *I* would've spoken with the manager, and likely called the police to boot.

I find that whatever the item, it pays to do a lot of research and essentially know what you want before you go shopping.

Unless I know the salesperson to be knowledgeable, and some few are, I usually just count on them to perform the transaction, not to answer any questions. Sad, but true.

I would say revolvers are for incompetents. Most inexperienced shooter are better of with a wheelgun. They are simpler and easier to understand.

This is why I go to as many shops as possible and pick the minds of everyone I can. Then I get on here or just research it on the net. I try to talk to as many people as I can once I narrow my choices down and try to find someone who actually owns one or all of my choices.

Question? If all autos are for incompetents, and revolvers rule, and I own a couple of each, what does that make me?

I haven't read the thread because it was boring as all get out. Blah blah blah revolver vs. autoloader for two pages.

What I really want to know is. Who buys a gun at Bass Pro Shop? Way to support your local gun shop.

I heard somewhere that most fire-fights with handguns tend to end in 6 shots or less (in fact I think that was on the revolver section here in THR). But saying that people with auto-loaders are incompetent? A M1911A1 usually only has 7-8 rounds in it depending on the mag and if one is in the chamber. Asking for one or two more cartridges isn't "incompetence".
