Do you expect a new AWB?

Various quotes from various members:

Bush would have signed the new AWB - voting for him or a clone of him is not a good solution.

I know tell me about it, President Al Gore or President John Kerry would have been a better alternative.

This search for a better candidate is simply not happening anytime soon with the Republicans fielding and pushing very moderate candidates in 2008. We're in lesser-of-two-evils mode right now like we have been for sometime. Hey, unlike the Klintonista days ....BUSH DID NOT SIGN ANY BANS.

So all this talk about Bush not being a good choice is quite frankly a steaming pile of Bush-hating BS.

Remember, folks - not everyone who posts here is a pro-2nd amendment person.

100% True. The same way a few THR members go to DemocraticUnderground to try an evangelize a bunch of gun-hating rabid leftists on the 2nd Amendment, there are plenty of people here who are constantly undermining the best interests of the RKBA movement. Their favorite tactic is getting conservatives to hate their leadership and to whine about global warming, Iraq and immigration. Sounds like DU talking points to me.

Might as well. The NRA is in the gun ban business. As soon as all unconstitutional gun bans are gone, and we're free as the Founding Fathers wanted they'll have nothing left to do.

This is about the stupidest thing I've ever read on THR. Not a personal attack on any member, but on the concept quoted above that has been stated here on THR a few times in the past.

NOTE: The NRA was NOT a gun-lobby for most of its existence. It was a shooting sports organization for nearly 100 years. The NRA didn't have to start getting involved in politics until the liberal-progressives decided that they'd like to rebuild America according to their vision - and that does not include a RKBA. Being the biggest organization, it was only logical that they would be the advocate of the RKBA cause. Most members, biggest size, most influence. Most of all, the industry saw a threat to their existence and their voice was the NRA.

1. I don't think there will be a ban. The Dems, in part, know that gun laws are bad for them. They got GOP votes as Bush is seen as a failure. They don't want to force those who voted against Bush to be forced back into the GOP fold.

Oh yes indeed, they are shi**ing their pants as we speak. They're going to let their core-beliefs and the core-beliefs of their ideological base for the last 40 years be held hostage by the opposition indefinitely because they fear 1994-style retribution.

LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!

People, the Dems CLEARLY, before all your eyes, voted for the AWB renewal in 2004. Go to Thomas.loc to get a roll call if you don't believe me or can't remember.

They obviously did not fear losing more seats (which they did in 2004)..on the basis of a gun ban. Well, in 2004, I don't think they lost many seats because of their AWB vote, but that's another discussion.

Not all Democrats are anti-gun.

No, but most are. Especially their leadership. This flawed argument above serves absolutely no purpose but to create an apologetic tone toward the Democratic party, and to create some sort of RKBA relativist approach to politics.

Sorry, but I wasn't born yesterday, and I've seen the Democrats be staunchly anti-gun for my entire life.

I'll believe in the Democrats when the propose and pass a pro-RKBA bill that repeals some type of gun control, or enhances the rights of gunowners without taking rights away in different way. Or, the Democratic Party votes against a gun control bill where at least 75% of them vote against it.

That my THR friends is THE standard for judging the Democratic Party on their RKBA stance. Not a bunch of pre-election LIES spread by the DNC.

But I fail to see how the last election really changes anything in the immediate future.

How? How's having every chairman on every committee being a rabid gun hater sound to you? Well, that's just what happened. Yes, gun control might not pass, but it sure is going to get some floor votes.

If they make any moves in the direction against RKBA, it will be as a lame duck.

The Democrats were not lame ducks in 1994. They held the House and they had a President that was far from a lame duck. Again, they are not "scared" to come out and ban your guns.

They are merely pacing themselves. They want to secure the 2008 election, so in the meantime they'll go for gun control that doesn't ruffle too many feathers and that can pass. Check out the bills being offered now. None of them bans guns, but they set age limits, change standards for who can or cannot be a gunowner, they are looking to repeal a number of protections for our FFL's so that the BATFE can essentially threaten 1/2 of them out of business with their mafia-style harassment.

When they get their bigger majority or a sympathetic president, they'll come out full force with a serious gun-ban. They don't mind trading a permanent gun ban for a temporary time being a minority party. They like that exchange.

Like I said in the AGS strategy thread, they are adopting a new strategy. Before, they were in-your-face about gun control. Now, they still support it 100%, have not denied that support at all (instead proclaim they support the RKBA which means nothing) and have won an election. They will chip away at our rights.

Some Democratic Progressives on THR adamantly deny that this is what they are doing, and that this strategy was used in past years. I fail to see how this is the case when they were openly supporting gun control on TV when the AWB renewal debate was on.

What is the purpose of shutting up on the issue recently? Being quiet about it is NOT the same as giving up on it. They want to size up a good majority and a solid hold on the Congress so that they can safely PASS a big gun ban down the road.

This is a means to an end. They aren't doing it for fun, or because they genuinely gave up on gun control. They are rebuilding their position using stealth and deception so that they can try again.

I'm not concerned. This little THR debate will be settled in clear plain text soon enough. This will be settled when the roll-call comes in for the next gun control bill............we'll all see in plain clear English text the list of votes and who voted and how. We'll see how pro-RKBA the Democrats really are.

NOTE: The NRA was NOT a gun-lobby for most of its existence.... (Don't Tread On Me)

On the whole I don't think they want to be one either---this is the hardest bit of information for anti's to swallow. NRA people love shooting and guns and really wouldn't be very politically active if they didn't need to be. They are so rabidly foaming about hating the NRA because the MSM and Michael Moore have told them what's up.

I always remind a lefty that JFK was NRA all the way---a life member.

Yup, there will be a ban soon enough. And assault rifles will be just the first step.

AWB

The AWB "reauthorization" is still part of the DNC's "What We Believe" statement (their platform).

When Her Thighness puts her hand on the Bible in January 2009, the AWBII bill will be put into the HR docket.
