A rifle is definitely in my future and at the moment, I'm thinking it's going to be an SU16C or CA. My only reservation on that is the 5.56 caliber, and I'm afraid it's going to be too light to play with if I want to plink past 300 yards, not to mention penetration concerns out that far.

With that in mind, I'm looking concidering a .308win 7.62 nato platform instead. Probelm here is I'm picky. Bolt action doesn't do anything for me. I also want to avoid an AR platform, and even AK flavored rifles are kind of meh. Conversly, the SU16 attracted me because of its alternativeness and relatively low cost of ownership.

So, I guess the primary attributes I'm looking for is low cost ($600 or less), ability to reach out to 300+, has easily obtainable ammo and is fun. ...And not a bolt, AR and AK :uhoh:

...Or am I overthinking this and a 5.56 nato platform will be a blast anyway?
Maybe a Remington 7600? Bah. I'm so damn indecisive.

Not sure about your aversion to AR and AK style rifles. They're good fun, basic rifles.
