Banning bullet buttons in California because of Colorado and Wisconsin?

There was one state rep out of frisco ( cant remember his name) that wants to ban all "assault"weapons, with no granfather clause and regardless of features.

Does it make sense? No. Will they try it anyway? Yes.

Glad i moved out of that state....

Does this even make sense? They are pushing a bill through to ban bullet buttons in California and demanding owners put fixed 10 round mags in their rifles because of tragities in other states. http://www.fox5sandiego.com/news/ks...calif-gains-momentum-20120807,0,3688172.story
With a bullet button, the magazine IS fixed -- whatever the capacity it might be because it takes a "tool" (the tip of a round, a golf tee tip, a pen, etc.) to drop the mag.

Some people make what amounts to a magnetic tool that's always on the gun but it can be quickly ditched of course. I believe that's what the bill is focused on, big deal, they are illegal anyway. The problem is the bill's language is extremely vague and confusing.

The bill was written by people that simply don't have a clue about what's going on from a technical standpoint. They should have taken the time to stop in at a knowledgeable gunshop for some advice.

This bill predates the two recent tragedies.

Ain't gonna happen. That would amount to confiscation. There are FAR more AR/AK variant firearms in CA than any other two states combined. Good luck, senator...

Are you trying to say that he wants to ban all semi-automatic rifles?

Only way to tell an "assault weapon" from any other semi-automatic recreational rifle is by its' features such as a removable mag, pistol grip, bayonet lug, collapsible stock, or flash hider.

Not that I agree in any way with the "law", but this is just another example of a poorly written law having to try to sew up another "loophole".
The original intent of the law was to do away with changeable magazines. The bullet-button was obviously a loophole that has been used to "beat" the original intent of the law. (albeit awkwardly.)

I've been expecting the "conversion-cylinder" loophole to be addressed, but haven't seen anything........yet.

The only way to tell an assault rifle is the automatic setting. My USMC supplied M-16 was an assault rifle and much more fun than an AR-15 ever could be.

You really need to learn the difference between an assault rifle (as issued by the military) and an assault weapon (a legal definition).

Or do you believe that the assault weapon ban of 1994 banned only fully automatic weapons?

I'm on your side and all, but I see your "California" and raise you a Texas and Georgia. :). It may very well happen there. All of those concerned owners better start doing something in Cali fast, 'cause you have all been getting steamrolled for years and don't appear to have gained much ground.

Sounds like you guys need to get a handle on your government officials before they drive the bus off a cliff. If something like this happens on a federal level it will be contested by states as a 10th Amendment issue. But if you guys let this pass in your state you have very much ***** the bed. Being disarmed by a radically left government is just one step from interment and it's just a matter of time.

What the hell is a Bullet Button ? I had to look it up, I just thought it was a mag. release. This is what I call a Bullet Button...............

Why don't they just ban the ACT of assault and not focus on the millions of weapons that will never be used in a crime?

We've been on this in Activism for a week and a half. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=665686

Anything we can do to help our cohorts in California will pay dividends elsewhere in the country even if you live in a state where these sorts of excesses develop. If you can get something killed in California you can bet it will be easier for us to kill elsewhere.

After reading this I still have absolutely no idea what a "bullet button" is.

Can someone clarify?

You mean "California?"

In any event it's just not going to happen. There are far more AR/AK-type rifles in CA than anywhere including TX. They're not going to be magically confiscated by anyone.

The bill is hideously written. The worst thing it does is create a great deal of confusion with it's vague language.

It takes the place of the magazine release button on an AR. Instead of just using your index finger to press the button and drop the magazine, the bullet button requires the user to use a pointed object to stick into the mechanism to release the mag.

Look closely at the image. The addition of the "bullet button" makes it impossible to drop a magazine without using a "tool" (bullet tip, golf tee, pen, etc.) of some kind. So once a 10 round (or less) magazine is inserted, the gun no longer has a "removable magazine", making such a gun legal in CA.

Woah. I didn't know such things existed.

Thanks for the education.

I hope things swing back the other way, out there!

Rasberries

Hey, I have a great idea!

Let's call California names, point out how stupid its government reps -- and therefore its citizens -- are, and do the point-and-laugh thing.

Because everyone knows that California politics hold absolutely no sway anywhere else in the country. At all.

Hey, anyone dumb enough to live there . . . don't they "deserve" whatever they get?

Har har. Lookit them fools.

Yeah.

'Cuz if massive stoopid is enacted into law in California, the Sierra Nevada mountain range will prevent it from escaping into the rest of the country.

No danger of legislative contagion.

Not my problem.

Sucks to be them.

Until, of course, it sucks to be us.
