Glock, because it's the same as an M&P, but with a better grip and trigger. I dislike the "ergonomic" grips on pistols that have a cutaway for the web of the hand. I like the way a straight backstrap or a Glock grip mashes into the web of the hand for faster followups. This is where I think all the "improved" Glocks failed - ala Steyr, XD, Caracal, M&P, et al. But if your hand is different, then I guess it goes the other way.

FNX doesn't even compete. It's a decent plinker, but it isn't even in the same league as far as durability and ease of maintenance.

Durability:
Right side decocking lever known to spontaneously break off. Gun can be broken by racking the slide with an obstruction behind the trigger. Some examples will not fire in DA when hot, because some of the plastic pieces start to get bendy. Sear geometry is mickey mouse. The sear does not fully re-engage if the trigger is pulled partway and released. Trigger group still known to break if dry-fired with the slide off. Just not built to last, IMO. Now, the FNS coming soon will automatically eliminate many of those problems off the bat, and hopefully the other problems as well.

Maintenance:
The gun cannot be detail stripped without breaking the decocking lever AND removing the rear sight?

I chose Glock. Dont have much experience with the others.

IME, Glocks have shown to be simple, rugged, and reliable. I have about 9,500 rounds through one of my G17s. Of those rounds, there were three separate occaisions where 1,000+ rounds were fired with out cleaning or lubrication. No problems to date. This G17 has been exposed to the heat, cold, rain, snow, sand, dirt, mud, and sweat. The G17 chugged right through it. I have observed no parts failure, No rust, and no decrease in performance. It has fired cast lead, coated lead, plated, and FMJ bullets in various profiles and weights. Havent found anything it wont feed. I am cooking up a 105gr SWC load for it......we will see though.

Not saying that Glock is the best, but Glock has worked for me so far.

^^^ Speaking of dirty guns; This is a bit off-topic but I have a cheap Hi-Point .45 ACP that I put over 1000 through within two weekends... no cleaning or lube. I just wanted to see if I could make if fail. Nope... no FTFs or FTEs. I was pleasantly surprised.

my vote has to go to Glock. Best for what for me would be ccw/home defense. All of the firearms mentioned are good, but the Glock has the longer more established reputation. my reasons for choosing Glock over the others are:
1. familiarity. I've owned them for decades
2. Holster availibility. this may be a small thing but every holster made is made for the Glock
3. aftermarket part availibility and ease of instilation. the Glock is so popular that every maker of gun goodies make them for glocks, and the construction of the Glock makes cutting the slide a no no so aftermarket parts are drop in.
4. comprehensive list of sizes and calibers availible

It's made in America. I am not anti Glock/HK/SIG/FN/Beretta etc.... Just when all else is equal, I prefer to buy American.

That's right, it is in South Carolina.

Still one of the 50 U.S. States I believe.

And a superb pistol too. I do wish there was a DAO version of it, I know they had a DAO -9M model, but the reviews I heard weren't favorable as far as the trigger goes.

He listed three options and asked for opinions of which one is best. This is not difficult to understand. Just answer the question or don't.

Again, I will ask the question. Best for what? Home defense, concealed carry, target shooting/range work? Also, the question was phrased as "Best 9MM" when there are several others that many feel are "better" all around pistols than the three mentioned.

I can't vote for something I don't consider best at anything, nor can I know what "best" means to the OP.

Point taken... a little more criteria would help.

This is starting to sound like a work discussion, yes I'm a government worker.

I believe a quick glance back at the original, now modified post will show the OP asking which, among the listed brands, in the listed calibers is best in your opinion and what criteria you used in determining your choice.

If you were in the chow line and he asked you chicken or burger it might behoove you not to ask for salad while staring at the grill. Saying a Mercedes handles better than a Ford Pinto may be a certainty but is not the point of the thread. No one is being forced to answer yet some continue to steer off course for the sake of not so clever argument. I would hope every gun owner would understand the need to be civil in their dealings with others.

Better in what way?

I think you answered your own question...better all around would be a logical deduction...

I am torn because I own an M&P so I should probably vote for that; however, I do not feel that it is necessarily better than a Glock. I like both pistols, and enjoy shooting my best friends Glock.

I feel they are both just as reliable and durable as the other. The Glock does win on parts availability though. The one downside to my M&P is that the magazines are more expensive than comparable magazines for a Glock.

Also I will definitely buy a Glock in the future, but at the time I got my M&P the Smith was the better option for me. YMMV

Go with either the Glock or the M&P and you will do fine.

Well if I could pick one to be gifted, it would bet the fnx, mainly because I prefer the grip, trigger, and safety.

I own the M&P in .40 and just picked up a gen 4 Glock 22 that i've yet to shoot. I've also fired a FN in 9mm. So far my favorite is the M&P however the gen 4 glock looks and feels nice. The addition of adjustable back straps may make the Glock a contender for #1 in my book but i'll have to run it first.

I would vote none of the above. I am not a fan of Glock ergonomics or the M&P's trigger. The FnH is the best of the three in my experience. However, I would like a recess near the top of the grip to aid in trigger reach.

I know people say the M&P and Glock trigger are the same. I disagree. I think the M&P has a horrible trigger. The M&P feels heavier than the Glock's in my opinion. Having shot only one M&P it could have been a one off issue.

For me the best feeling and fitting poly 9mm was the CZ P-07 Duty. I've held and/or fired the other 3 and found them seriously lacking. The CZ had a better grip angle and feel to me. It has a lower center of gravity which reduces felt recoil and snap. It also has the ability to convert between decocker and safety. So, you can carry it as a standard DA/SA or as a SA in cocked and locked fashion.

From your list I would chose the FNH. I like the versatility and the texture of the grip.

This little recess has ruined many a grip for me. It's right where your hand has the most potential to counteract muzzle flip. With this material removed, the gun rocks back and forth like a hammer.

Thanks for the direct quote. I went back and fixed that spelling error.

Like they say, different strokes. It was the feature that sold me on the CZ P-07.

I like some guns without the recess. It just depends on the overall grip. With the FNH being a bit on the boxy side the recess would have been nice for me. The Stoeger Cougar on the other hand is a great feeling gun without the recess.

I've held all three in 9mm in the store. I've shot the Glock and FNP. For my money, the FNP is far superior to the Glock. Fact is, I don't understand all the hype about Glock. Sure, they sell a ton to police departments. Does that make them the best, or just the best marketed?

The CZ P-07 is also very nice as well. CZ has a great reputation for reliability and the -07 is a heck of a lot nicer to shoot than any Glock I've ever shot.

I'm not trying to be offensive, I just don't understand all the hype over Glock.

None of the above, they're all made of "polymer", so they aren't on my radar.

Give me steel, and if you can't, aluminum frames are ok.

Of those listed, I'd go Glock first. Second place goes to the FNH. I bought an FNP-9 for my wife and she loves it.

Having said that, she loves my Sig Pro 2022 even more than her FNP. It's got a smoother DA/SA trigger, superior sights, better ergonomics and is more accurate.

So, if you're looking for a great poly-framed handgun in 9/40, I'd have to go with the Sig Pro 2022 over any of the three listed.
