I tried out Chabot Gun Club for the first time today. I thought it was a pretty nice place. I still prefer Los Altos, but, since I live in Oakland now, it just makes more sense to go to Chabot. Another cool thing about Chabot is that if you buy a new gun and take it there, you shoot for free that day. You just have to show them the receipt.

I'm thinking about trying out the range in San Leandro next, since it's just down the road from me. It's closer to where I live and open later than Chabot, but the range fee is more expensive and the range in San Leandro doesn't have a trap range, which is a big deal for me.

Do any other Bay Area shooters want to talk about their favorite shooting places?

I belong to the Livermore-Pleasanton R&G. They used to have running deer but no more. Also used United Sportsmen near Concord. When I had problem shooters, I'd take them to San Leandro (Optomist Club) as it was close and being indoors, allowed me to adjust the distance.

Hate Chabot. Back in the '90s their rangemaster was an egotisical **********.

Ranges I miss:

1) Old sheriff's range at San Bruno.
2) Presidio Indoor range.
3) Pacifica (SF Park & Rec ran it).

Livermore Rod & Gun is the place to go for trapshooting. They also have an Olympic bunker.

Richmond Rod & Gun has an excellent action pistol range. If you're interested in trying out IPSC or IDPA that's the place to go. They also have trap and skeet, but you must use non-toxic shot. Check out their website.

San Leandros is a nice, low key range.

When I lived in Walnut Creek, I used to go to United Sportsmen in Concord. It was a very good place to shoot.
