Where the Army puts me
A few years ago I had a BCM Mod 2 with a hammer forged barrel I loved it but money talks to me so I let it go to a good home. Well since then I've owned several ARs (I'm ashamed to say how many) and I've built a few here and there. I had this inch that I couldn't scratch for a BCM Recce-16. I finally got my own and got to put some rounds through it.

Recce: short for recon Rifle (pronounced (Ricky) are a result of the MK-12 SPR not meeting all the demands of the warfighter. Please don't quote me on that 100% I'm going off of what I've been told from questions I've asked while down range.

Zeroing at 25m and confirming at 300m with a leupold 3x9 and a micro dot.

After shooting 300m and adjusting 3right and 3down I was dead on at 25m and 300m. A few inchs high at 50m, 100m, 200m. (I didn't take picture because I forgot my phone and 300m is a long walk)

I repeated the same steps for the micro dot but it only required 1right and 1down at 300m. I was a little accurate with the micro dot then I was with the scope.

With all that said and done i ran a few drills (V drill, 1-5 drill and 2sec rapid fire drill). I went 4.02 on the V, 3.94 on the 1-5 and 13rds in 2secs all hits in an 8" plate.

I bought this thinking I wouldn't like the standard barrel but after today I really like it. Only complaints are the trigger it has some take up and it's pretty gritty nothing an ALG won't fix. The stock is the standard USGI with will be getting swapped for a B5 or CTR.

For the record, the Recce rifle predates the SPR. Several special operations groups, including naval special warfare, were taking civilian 16" precision uppers and adding them to M4 lowers to give their recce guys a rifle that had a little more reach and accuracy than the issue M4.

When they requested more funds to build more Recce rifles, NSWC Crane and SOCOM got involved and created the Mk12 SPR which began replacing the Recce rifles.

Sweet, I was told the other way around due to the size and weight of the SPR the accuracy trade off was well worth it. Still kicking the idea around of a 16" BCM 410ss barrel.

There was some resistance to the Mk12 from the Navy at first. I know Frogman at Tacticsl Forums expressed some dislike of the Mk12 idea initially (which he later recanted). I think the thought was if you were going to pack an 18" Mk12, you might as well just go ahead and step up to the Mk11.

I know the Navy continued to run with the Recce concept even after the Mk12 was issued.

Nice rifle by the way! I've wanted a BCM Recce upper for some time myself but their "in stock" and my "discretionary income" never seem to cross paths!

Very nice rifle. One thing that shocked me was the BattleComp compensator a buddy put on his 14/5 BCM. I liked it so much I purchased one for myself.

Very cool and nice shooting. I've been a big fan of recce concept since...
