Be honest, how many of you bought ammunition or guns yesterday or today as a response to the Orlando killings?

I told my wife, "darn it, I was in the LGS yesterday and for the first time in ages there was plenty of 22LR and I didn't buy any. Now I won't see any for years again (LGS is closed on Sunday)."

Then I thought better of it and made a Dick's run (I usually try to avoid Dick's). Federal Automatch was on sale, 3 box limit and there was plenty of Remington Golden Bullet and Browning with no limit. And, 420 round cans of 5.56 XM193 were also on sale. Let's just say that I'm good again for a couple of years.

One guy ahead of me in the cashier line and two guys behind me were also carrying 22LR. The manager, who retrieved the ammo from behind the counter, said to me, "this stuff has been sitting here for weeks and all of a sudden it's selling well." He hadn't seen the news yet.

If I stopped buying components today I'd have enough ammo for the next 5 years.

I have no idea why .22LR would ever be out of stock. Anywhere. For practical purposes as far as ammo goes its useless. Maybe you can't horde a pallet of 9mm the same way. I don't know.

No need to extra for me. I'm got plenty on hand, both ammunition and components.

I increased inventory levels of components before 2009 and then again after 2013.

.22 LR popularity isn't about its ability to take down a human or deer. It's that it is cheap and fun to shoot. People can afford to shoot 500 rounds of .22 in a day but could not afford 500 rounds of .223 a day so you can get a lot more practice and just have a lot more fun for less money. Yes you could hoard a pallet of 9mm too but it would cost you 4x as much.

Actually if you take into account the much larger size of a box of 9mm ammo, a pallet of 9mm is most likely way less than a pallet of 22 ammo. Just saying. I've hoarded enough reloading components. Won't have to worry for a while.

My gun room floor already sags, no need for more ammo... although maybe I should buy a few more bricks of .22lr.

I bought some last night when I returned from a week of shooting, but it was because I'd been planning since mid-week to buy some more GECO 45 ACP that shoots in my 97 B like it was custom-developed for the gun.

And I bought some Gold Dot 38 Special to try in a couple of revolvers, but again, it was planned prior to Sunday AM.

If I ever saw anyone shooting the stuff I'd agree. It just seems to disappear.

I'm not sure if you're serious.

In addition to the aforementioned value in the use of .22LR as practice ammunition, .22LR is very much a practical cartridge. It has put plenty of food on the table for millions of people for well over 100 years. Perhaps not deer-sized game, but plenty of squirrel, rabbit, etc. I understand, too, that preppers like it because .22LR is easy to carry in bulk, obviously, due to the small size of the cartridge.

That said, no; I have not purchased any ammunition within the last week, even when apprised of the then-breaking news from Orlando.

I'm serious that sales of it seem to be vastly disproportionate to its actual use. I keep picturing preppers with pallets of the stuff in their bunkers. I suppose everyone's got to spend their money on whatever they find to be worthwhile.

Everybody we need to buy up ALL THE AMMO and ALL THE GUNS now!!! Otherwise there's going to be another panic!!! Spread the word before the panic starts!!! AH there takin' the guns!!! :banghead:

Don't you people get it?

We CREATE the panic!

We CREATE the shortages!!

Stop freaking out, it's going to be okay, they're not gonna take all yer guns and ammo, let's just be cool and you know what will happen? The prices will stay the same. Who'da thunk it??

I have plenty of ammo. I buy a minimum of 100 rounds a week of centerfire, plus I replace anything I shoot during the week. I have a ton of calibers and I would guess that I have around 2500 rounds for each one, and a lot more for the more common calibers. I haven't reloaded in a few months because of a renovation to my reloading bench that hasn't been completed yet. I have plenty of components though.

No ammo purchase, but I did reload 200 rounds of 40 S&W over the weekend and another 50 rounds of 9mm......yeaaaaaah!

Got enough components and factory ammo to shoot for 3 years, about 40 lbs of powder too.

No ammo, did pu a S&W AR on Friday that I needed like a hole in the head, in retrospect, it may have turned out to be a good move.

...sales of [.22 caliber ammuniton] seem to be vastly disproportionate to its actual use...

Respectfully, how can you know the degree of it's actual use in this country? There may very well be folks who can legally, and do, shoot 100-200 rounds per day from their front porch. We don't know for sure.

I didn't make any unplanned purchases as a result of Orlando. 1. No gun control agenda will gain any traction during this lame duck year. 2. Aside from the far left nuts, rational people understand the difference between an islamic terrorist attack and the sandy hook type shooting and therefore calls for gun control fall mostly on deaf ears. On top of that, a good number of people will "see the light" as a result of this kind of attack and understand self defense is their own personal responsibility and we'll see a spike in ccw handgun sales and license permits.

Having said that though, I'm glad my .308 lower was already in the mail before the weekend!

No I still have plenty stashed away that I don't feel the need to keep stockpiling ammo any more.

I'll be watching carefully but I'm not too concerned with the availability of anything (aside from an even more prolonged inflation of .22LR).
