Most of us who carry have nice holsters and possibly belts and we damn sure have some fine shoot'n irons but be honest what do you really carry.

Now I myself carry the occasional bottom feeder and extra magazines from time to time but let's face facts "gearing up" so to speak can be a pain in the arse and I really am a believer in carrying whenever you can legally.

So what do I find myself carrying 90% of the time? A lowly little 5 shot snubby. A Ladysmith NO LESS. I find it is just a heck of a lot of firepower in a very small easily pocketable package and with all the other stuff we modern folk carry, easily pocketable is a big plus. No change of dress needed, easy to grab for a quick trip to the store for milk and just plain comforting to know my little "girlfriend" is always there.

I am of the mind that big guns with lots of ammo are easier to shoot, more comforting but chances are at some point most of us may not put up with the hassel and run out the door unarmed. I highly suggest everybody who carries get themselves a pocketable piece.

I myself don't really trust those itty bitty semi autos so the good ole' .357 maggie does me just fine.

Always there since rule number one is have a gun.

Well....I've seen a lot of "carry" rigs around here in pics with really nice holsters and really nice BIG guns like a 1911, but I'm willing to bet at least some are "occasional" carry or BBQ carry guns at best.

My workhorse at the moment is a Sig 225 9mm in an Uncle Mikes IWB with a gunleather.net lined belt. Not bad rig.

My extra mag carrier (when I wear it) is a Gerber multitool sheath which is lighter, sits more comfortable and is less obvious than most leather stuff. Besides 2 225 mags fit in it.

For duty it's a black stainless 229 in .40 with extra mags in a Safariland duty rig. I hate Safariland.

But I keep it in a tactical man-purse. I do alot of moving furniture and stuff around at work so pretty much no holster will be comfortable.

Safe full 'O guns, and a 35 year old, beat up, airweight bodyguard is usually in my pocket these days.

Better than a bigger gun under the car seat......

I carry a PM9 whenever possible (usually with a P-32 BUG). I don't really have a fancy belt and holster, just a cheap belt and a $15.00 holster for the PM9, and an Uncle Mike's pocket holster for the P-32. That set up works fine for me.

I split i carry either a 1911 a Hk usp in 45 glock 17 and sometimes a 38 Colt cobra I just cant make up my mind and it differs on wardrobe too .. Also a xd 9 subcompact

If I plan on carrying its a Kimber compact in a Milt Sparks rig.

If I'm siting around the house and am just running to the local McD I'll put a PM9 in a High Noon holster on.

Sometimes if I'm going out and dont want to have to change I'll just throw the Kahr on.

I'd say its prob 70/30 Kimber to Kahr right now. That will change Monday when I start working and will probably have the Kahr in a pocket unless I smart carry the Kimber.

Theres more than once I have both the Kimber and Kahr on.

90% of the time, a fullsized Kimber Custom Classic II in stainless, in a Milt Sparks VersaMax II. Loaded with either 230-gr HydraShok or 200-gr Speer Gold Dot +P, depending on which mag I happen to grab. Second mag on left hip. Often there's a NAA mini in .22LR in my left front pocket as well. Either a Ken Onion Leek or a CRKT M-16 in back pocket. Victorinox Swiss Army knife goes everywhere I go.

9% of the time, a SIG P-232 (.380) replaces the .45 when I need something more concealable. Also in a VM2. The rest stays the same.

The 1% of the time I'm going somewhere I can't carry, so no guns, but the spare mag gets replaced with a Schrade Uncle Henry lockback. Everything else stays the same.

Either my Kimber Procarry SLE, my DW CCO (cmdr slide, Officer grip), or the Taurus 605. The Taurus is more of a summertime-in-shorts pistol.

Today?

Today, with the weather here, I was carrying my CQB in an Alessi IWB holster with a SOG Flash II.

But tomorrow? I am picking up my first Taurus .357 snub for this summer :)

A government 1911, 95% of the time regardless of wear. The other 5% is taken up by my Officer's ACP 1911-nothing smaller.

That said, I've purposefully equipped myself with the ability to carry them well for all occasions with good holsters, belts, and sundry other items and carriers such as the Wilderness Safepacker. My dress style is modified for carry as well, but that's more a standard CCW issue most of us face anyway, and I carry successfully in all kinds of dress accordingly.

IMO, I'd much rather do the above and have my 1911's on hand and the comfort, firepower and security they represent, rather than downgrade for the slippery slope that is convenience (no barb at the thread poster).

Chris - I see and take your point and was until a while ago content with SP101 - so similar in a way to your choice.

I have tho upsized and gotten heavier - with the SIG (I know how you hate those! :neener: ) - but I wear it 16/7 - no chance of dashing off without it - same for any carry piece for me... the size aspect does not influence my decision for constant carry.

As ever - what the individual finds enough and comfortable. You sure could do a heck of a lot worse! :)

A Stainless Taurus Ultralight Model 85 in .38. I have bigger caliber and more prestigious name brand guns, but this gun is so easy to carry and it fits about anywhere. I bought this gun several years ago as a boat and truck gun but found myself constantly taking this one with me anytime I carried a gun. This gun has gone bang every time I have pulled the trigger and is not that bad to shoot since its a .38

For about the last year and a half a 2.25" SP101 .357 with CT grips.
I have been thinking about trying one of the light weight revolvers
or a small auto in the near future.

Mike

Sometimes I carry a pre-agreement Smith & Wesson five-shooter .357 magnum. Sometimes I carry a pre-agreement Smith & Wesson six-shooter .44 magnum. Sometimes I carry a Colt Python. Sometimes I carry an engraved Colt Python.

The main event is that if I'm beyond the front door, I carry.

I like this topic because I wonder how many people really carry the guns they say they carry. I carry a S&W 642 most of the time with my Kahr K-9 doing IWB duty sometimes. I almost never carry my larger guns like the Beretta 92fs or the 1911. They are great guns and I would prefer to have them if I ever needed a gun but I find them too larger and heavy for anything but a belt holster and I am not a cowboy so i don't CCW a larger belt gun.

The fact is, most of my handguns have no real purpose. My Beretta 92fs is my home defense gun. My S&W 19 6" bbl is my centerfire target handgun. My Ruger MKII is my rimfire handgun. My S&W 642, Kahr K-9 or S&W 3913 are the only guns that I really carry for self defense. I have a bunch of guns that serve no real purpose. My 4" revolvers are great in theory but I don't use them for any serious task. My other autos are fun to shoot but again, I have guns for my tasks and they just sit in the safe most of the time.

In excellent to like new condition. No box. G-10 handles, VG-10 blade black coating. No scratches in coating, looks new! PayPal add 3%. If you want insurance it is up to you just add $2 to the price.

I don't trust tiny autos either, I have too much experience to be that silly. A Kel-Tec P3AT is the ultimate back-up on paper but in real life, it is not going to be reliable enough for me to trust. Some people claim that their tiny auto has been 100% from day one and has shot 10,000 rds but everyone I have ever had has jammed. I guess I am cursed.

Until proven different, I will contend that the light weight snubbies are the smallest most reliable handgun for CCW. They pack a real punch and you can pretty much count on those 5 shots. If you need to shoot through a coat pocket, they are better than autos. Many a time I had a joker covered and I didn't have to draw a gun. If something happened, the bad guy would not know what hit him. Coat pocket carry is great because it looks natural. In the summer, it gets harder. Sometime I go with just a good folder knife like my Al Mar Shrike. Better than nothing and you can use it for other things. I would never want to have to defend myself with a knife but if the bag guy has a knife and I draw mine, maybe there would be a stand off of sorts so either I or he can back away. With no knife, he has the advantage. It will all suck but we do what we have to do. I can't carry at work so I find that I am carrying less and less outside of work. I always have a good knife on me at least.

Right now it's the COLT Lightweight Defender in a GALCO SUM 216 (Summer Special).
Other times its a lowly Taurus 605 in another GALCO Summer Special (don't have it with me to give the model number).
Sometimes one of them ride along in a fanny pack, other times a brief case, always inside their GALCO SS.
Belt is also by GALCO (SB2 36B)
