Don't get me started on tax returns. It's just money you earned and belonged to you in the first place, yet you feel good in February. For sure, I will get the thread locked if we start talking taxes.

I figured the night shift would change the results. I was banking on about 10% of our newcomers were politically related which is fine--the more the merrier.

But I started a thread a week ago or so regarding the Real increase in Sales, and I still wonder about the sales whether it is new owners or us.

You're right about it being my $ in the first place. I turned 21 in the midst of the Brady Ban and thought buying a Glock 17 with 3 hi-cap mags with tax retun money was a great way to stick it to the man. That's about as rebellious as I get.

I can't answer; I was a gun owner since (just) before the political wind swept through.

I am, however, buying more since then. Not purely because of politics, mostly because of the downhill turn I've seen in society. My buying is just sped up because I have to jump on things when I find a nice gun without a price tag three times what it should be.

Really glad I got on the waiting list and was assured that I would get an LCP locked at the price it used to be.

I had been contemplating a firearm purchase for about three years, the political climate was just the catalyst to finally get it done.

Welcome aboard, omg.

Three years, huh? And I thought I was dilly-dallying around trying to buy a rifle last month.

If I can ask: What was the thought process over the three years?

I think I'd say yes. The anti-gun MSM back in early 2007 inspired me to purchase a first handgun. (I grew up with no firearms whatsoever). There was just this instinct inside that screamed "their solution is idiotic" along with an equally built in understanding that freedom and guns go together. The V-tech tragedy is what really got me thinking\moving though. But years prior even out of high school I remember thinking "someday I will\should responsibly pursue CCW" though I'd never held a gun.

Why thank you!

For about a year and a half of it I was in school, so my thought process went something like this: Need gun, poor, really need gun?, can't carry, poor, want gun, poor, graduate school, poor, found job and moved, poor, home invasions in neighboring apartments, really need gun, poor, fat bonus, gun, happiness.

:D

I always was interested in guns, shot them with friends many times before, but never bought one, but the incoming administration was the catalyst to actually buy one. I figured, I should get one now before it becomes harder to get one.

Well I've gotten in to parts builds because of the climate. Picked up a half-dozen parts kits, two of each model. Did some research, and after my NRA certification for Basic Pistol Instructor becomes official and I sign on with a local range, I'll go back about doing my own receivers, and maybe order up some more parts kits. Plus I know a lot of folks with FAL and AK parts kits they've been sitting on for ten plus years and have never fiddled with so I'll be trying to buy up their stock. Oh I wanted to be a Basic Pistol Instructor well before the election, now it will just be a great way to bring never-fired-newbies over to the Second Amendment side, because they can apply for their Concealed Carry Permits after taking one of two courses.

So am I buying more because of the politics, yes, but I've been a legit gun owner since I was 18 (a shotgun, and a rifle).

Depends. What is a "new gun owner"? Does that mean "owner of a new gun", as in "NEW GUN owner"? Or does it mean "first-time gun owner", as in "NEW gun-owner"?

I've been around guns for all my life. I acquired my first deer rifle around the age of 10. 10 years later, I have 14 firearms total, and another pistol coming within the next week.

None of my purchases have been because of the election. Except that maybe the election had some twist into getting me a reloading setup for Christmas from my loving girlfriend. :D

I say that if nothing else, all of this panic buy has helped small town gun shop owners. Maybe Obama gave us a stimulus package even before he is sworn in by scaring the bun owning community into Zombie Invasion mode.

Premium, you some kind of lawyer or bible interpreter? :scrutiny::D

I thought I was being plain, but for you intellectual types, I will clarify my previous ambiguities.

A "No" vote means that the person has always had guns.

A "Yes" vote means the person bought their first gun because of or in response to the political weather.

hso, I may have to take you up on that amended options offer.

A blatantly self-promotion bump.

Seriously though, thanks for keeping everything apolitical. Just wanted to fish for any new votes as well. I think I put a ten day limit on the poll, so vote while voting is still allowed.

Another idea for a poll....

1. Are you a gun owner?

2. Have you taken a gun safety course?

3. Do you shoot at least once a month?

4. Do you shoot at least once a week?

I know a lot of "gun owners", "not so many shooters".

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Dunno. Haven't owned that long!
4. Not gunna happen.

Scott,

You could poll that if you want to.

Doc,

What do you mean? If only new owners voted, then I would not know the percentages of politically affected new owners to just regular old gun owners.

That is really what I am seeking: to know (approximately) what the real increase in sales is being caused by.

I'm one of the new ones, started last spring. I take hobbys seriously overboard though. Part of it was election comming up and part was a friend that was into guns. It started with assault rifles as things you likely couldn't buy in the future, then finding "deals" on handguns. I have a lot money in stocks, diecasts, coins, and sports cards, trying to sell or trade out of those into guns. Its fun and guns are great for "hard money", more safe than cash.
