After I recovered a 230 +P HST from my CZ, it will be the CZ from now on. to avoid nighttime accidents, it is a bit of a reach. far enough I couldn't reach it in my sleep without certainly waking myself up. plus it's heavy. and my arm is always stuck under the girl.
I generally have several pistols within reach.
At present it's a Streamlight TLR-2 laser/light equipped FN 5.7.
A Streamlight TLR equipped Ruger 22/45.
A Crimson Trace equipped Kimber Ultra or two.
and how comfortable are you with no half-asleep accidents happening?
I've got a couple house cats. One of which jumps up on the window sill above the bed several times a night to go out or come in the window, so I'm use to waking up a lot at night to let the cat in or out.
Almost all my defense guns are equipped with laser/lights or at least a laser and anything around my place at night, inside or out, that stands taller than a cat will most likely be shot.
I will sleep with an XD9 service model in my bed side table. I know some out there will criticize me, but I dont keep a round in the chamber. The only time I will keep a round in the chamber of a gun is if it has a hammer. This just makes me feel better.
Sig 220. Comes off the belt and onto the nightstand. I used to have a dedicated nightstand gun, but now with a little one running around I use my carry gun, and I have found that I prefer it that way.
Glock 21 with 3 hi cap mags loaded with 230 gr winchester ranger, streamlight M6 laser/light, cold steel X2 knife and streamlight stinger. All in quick access safe.
Currently it is my CZ75 semi compact. It is on the bookshelf by my bed. It require me to sit up to grab it and it stays in a holster. However it is soon to be replaced (or supplemented) by an Ithaca 37 with a 22" smoothbore deerslayer.
I also have a H&K .40 SW with Gold Dots. Hopefully the exchange will be short and definite. But you know about well laid plans. And with my luck, they might go wrong.
I keep knives in many places. Since I "know" my house's floor plan in the dark, I might have to ensconce myself quietly (if I suspect the guy is a stronger foe) and cut him badly so we level the playing field.
I believe it will also take the element of fear away from him. He'll be the guy being stalked and sliced, and that's got to rattle him and throw him off his game.
Win, lose or draw, this will give my wife ample time to get the Federales. She uses a .44 SPL if the guy gets by me.
Or, if I'm feeling jiggy, a folding stock AK, cruiser ready.
My son sleeps with my wife and I (terrible habit to start, future dads...can't get him in his own room no matter what we try)... so if the S hits the F, I'm just letting 30 rounds of 7.62x39 zip through the walls of my walls at whatever just came in through the front door or window. Target identification is for the Crime scene guys!
