Being "made" story's

This happend a while back but I was reminded when someone on Taurusarmed.net asked about being made or making others...anyway

I have only been made once I am aware of. It happend to be a cop too

I stopped in at the corner store to get something to drink and my wife wanted an orange juice, I went to get the OJ off the top shelf and remembered not to use my strong side hand so I reached with my left and I was keeping an eye on the cop standing there reading the magazines who was keeping his eye on me for some reason, anyway I must have pulled down on the shelf with the drink somehow and the shelf collapsed and drinks started falling. I reached up with both hands to hold the shelf in place and my shirt uncovered my 24/7. The cop came over pretty quick to give me a hand holding the shelf full of OJ which was surprisingly heavy and while we both stood there trying not to drop anymore juice on the floor holding the shelf together waiting for the guy who works there to come help us fix it, the cop looks at me and says "I will need to see your CHL if we ever get to stop holding this shelf up" I said no problem sir. He then says "of course it might not be till they sell out of these drinks on this shelf so we can put it down" I started laughing and almost dropped the shelf :D
 
My wife made me go in to a Men's store to buy a jacket. I hate stores and it takes a lot of work on her part to get me to go in to one.

So she says stop at that store you need a jacket. I said, I don't wanta go in that store. I'm carrying. I hate stores.

She says, your always carrying, go in to that store you look like a @#$%bum in your old jackets.

So I walk in and I'm the back of the store with no one even close to me when she hands me a jacket and says try this on.

As I put the jacket on, my gun falls out of the holster hits the floor and it's gone. Now I'm on my hands and knees looking for it when I hear a girl say it's over here.

She said we saw you drop it on the security camera. It was a good 10 ft from where I had dropped it. So I said, Thanks for the help, sorry about that.

She says, No problem, guys will be guys and smiles and walked off.

I havn't worn a holster with out a thumb strap since.
 
I "clunked" the butt of my holstered Browning Hi-Power against a wooden restaurant booth as I sat down. It sounded like I had whacked the wood with a Framing Hammer! Two Kentucky State Troopers were enjoying their BBQ in the booth behind me. They both immediately recognised the noise. They looked me over and went about finishing their meal. Later, as they got up to leave, one leaned over and said, "Our undercover guys have to be careful sitting down in here for the same reason that you should."...Lesson learned.
 
Not too long ago I was talked into going to a strip club with some buddies of mine. I volunteered to be the designated driver as I had to get up early and work the next day, and since I wasn't doing any drinking I decided to carry into the club as there were no signs or laws that otherwise prevented me from doing so. Furthermore, I did not have the necessary budget that week to be pissing it away on booze and strippers, and due to some other events early the day before, getting a lap dance was THE LAST thing on my mind at the moment. I just sat at a table towards the back of the club and watched from a distance as my friends were taken for every red cent on them. Just when I thought I couldn't take the bordom any longer, a stripper appeared seemingly out of nowhere, grabbed my thigh and asked how I was doing. Almost immediately she felt the GLOCK 26 that I was carrying in my right pocket. She gave me the old cliche: "Is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me" almost half jokingly, but at the same time kinda seriously. It was extremely awkward and I didn't want to flat out directly announce that I indeed had a gun so I said, "it is exactly what you think it is." That must have been a sufficient answer because she immediately left. I was fulling expecting to be confronted by the owner and a bouncer shortly thereafter and asked to leave, but it never happened and no other strippers bothered me the rest of night. I was grateful it ended right there.
 
I was going to have a late lunch at a Red Robin resturant.
My shirt got caught behind my weapon.
Nobody noticed until the waitress came by to take my order
"What kind of gun is that? I don't think I've ever seen one like that."
"It's an S&W M&P, they are pretty new (backwhen they WERE new)"
"I've always been a GLOCK girl, myself."
"Thanks for not freaking out, sorry about that."
"Shug, you're in Texas."

(she actually called me Shug.)
 
In the 11+ years I have been CCing I have never been made that I know of, but I have a funny story that happened to my buddy. He was at a large shopping mall and he needed to drop a duece, so he heads to the restroom and enters the stall, as most of us who CC, his plan is to drop his drawers and place his piece in his trauser hammock while he drops the duece, well as he is lowering his britches the gun falls out on the floor, the guy in the stall next to him freaks out pulls up his britches without wiping and runs out of the bathroom, my buddy new what was coming next so he finished quickly and left the mall before the cops arrived. He now carries his pistol in a Bianchi Carry Loc holster as do I.
 
I used to carry OWB with a tucked in tshirt with an untucked button up shirt on the outside to conceal it. One day I was walking into a gas station on a windy day and the wind blew my shirt way back, exposing my XD40. I fixed the shirt and looked up as a guy and his 9 year old son were coming out of the gas station, and the little boy had this HUGE grin on his face and he was beaming right at me. I winked and went inside.

I changed my methods. Now, when I'm actually out and walking around in public I use an IWB holster and an untucked shirt (buttoned). When just driving to and from work I use an OWB.
 
As we left the restaurant after a work related dinner, the wife of one of our VPs gave me a hug followed by a playful, but firm, slap on the ass as she walked out the door.

My Kel-Tek .380, in a stiff leather pocket holster, must not have been what she expected. Before I know what was happening, she has kinda trapped me in the doorway and I am left looking stupid, holding the door open, while she alternately pats both of my back pockets a couple of times before announcing to the group "Buns of Steel seems to have taken on a different meaning here."
 
I'm in the Air Force and used to be stationed in Warner Robins, GA (Middle Georgia). If you've never been in the area before, Macon is just up the road and has the only mall of any size in that part of the state. In the Georgia summer, I often carried in a fanny pack.

I was standing in the Macon Mall one Saturday afternoon, waiting for my wife to come out of one of those "Gap/The Limited" stores (I don't remember which one it is) when I noticed a Macon police officer staring at me from about fifteen yards away. After a couple of minutes of intense scrutiny, I walked over, with my hands in front of me, away from my waistline. One thing to keep in mind is that I'm originally from Iowa and have the lack of accent to prove it.

This is how the conversation went, to the best of my recollection:

"Afternoon, Sergeant (he was a sergeant)."
"Afternoon, sir."
"Is there a problem? I noticed you were staring at me."
"I was just tryin' to decide if you were carryin' a gun."
"What tipped you?"
"Son, I don't know where you're from, but in Georgia only two types of people carry fanny packs--people carryin' guns and f*ggots (his word, not mine)."
"Well, I'm carrying a gun."
"I know, I figured you for military with that haircut."
 
Went to friends house for dinner one night and was carrying in a vest pocket.Well it was about 90 in the house so I took my vest and put it on the back of my chair...THUD..as the 642 hit the chair...the woman of the house says"you expecting trouble?"(she knows I carry anyway)..I say"well we'll see how good the steaks are."
never been "made" by anyone who didn't know I was already carrying,to my knowledge.In fact one time I wasn't carrying and a buddy patted my pocket and says"I see you have your little friend with you.":uhoh: I said"no,apparently I'm just happy to see you.":D
 
Good stories. Keep them coming. To be honest, with where I'm living now, I've started to become tempted to carry (against the law in MD) when I venture out after dark (not that I'd do it, just that it has become much harder to remind myself that I shouldn't). Especially since I carry around the apartment and often when out of state, my confidence has been up about concealing successfully. No matter how well you conceal, sometimes you don't. I think I'll stick with the pocket knife and pepper spray. Thanks for helping to keep me honest.

If you're at the point where you are seriously considering risking financial ruin, imprisonment, loss of voting rights and the loss of your right to even touch a firearm for the rest of your life to ensure your safety; what's keeping you from getting the heck out of MD and moving someplace free?

Right now, I'm a teacher. I'm not fully certified yet (conditional, not standard) so there is little to no chance of having my license accepted by another state. Additionally, for now there are several reasons keeping me here: not yet being ready to give up in MD (maybe we'll win a few), friends, family, religious reasons (the only part of the country better than Baltimore for Orthodox Jews is NYC and NJ; LA and Chicago might be a little better if you are Modern Orthodox and not Yeshivish*). I'd love to move to PA, but teaching jobs are VERY hard to get there. VA, not many Orthodox Jews (Richmond or Norfolk might work AFTER I'm married). The Miami area is OK, but I hate MD's heat and humidity and it is much worse there (still, I'm thinking about it a year or two out). MN, I have family there, there is a small community there (again, not a good place until I'm married, but OK after that), and I love it there- but I can't do it now. Denver, maybe down the road. WA, maybe down the road. Another consideration- outside of my current area, the Philadelphia area, and NYC/NJ, the other areas don't pay teachers much at all (after a few years experience we're talking 20%+ pay cut when teachers don't get paid much to begin with). Overall, my best option may be to move to Philadephia and work in NJ, or wait until I move into administration (possible, but I haven't made up my mind)- but either way that is a few years away.

If I stay in MD, once I'm making more money I'll probably move to the community in Silver Spring (much safer) but it is out of my price range at the moment. For now, I'm in the safest part of the Baltimore Orthodox Community. I feel fine leaving and entering my apartment. The temptation comes depending upon where I'm going (there are some VERY scary areas within the community).

*Yeshivish= the non-Chassidic part of the more religious/right-wing part of Orthodox Judaism.

Modern Orthodox= Orthodox but much more open to non-religious ideas and influences

Me= Somewhere in between

NC is badly in need of teachers, most of our teachers are still going to school, but your right no temples around these parts, least not where I live.

Four places that are as bad or worse than MD about abrogating your constitutional rights.

I have a bad feeling about ethnic and religous communities making their homes in places that don't allow them the means to defend themselves. That has tended to work out rather poorly in the past.

Best of luck with your teaching career - we need more good teachers.

I can't speak to the makeup of the community you're looking for - I honestly don't pay any attention - but the midwest is a great place to live. Give us a look when you're ready to make a change.
