I'm working on a wildcat round. And believe it or not its for a Beowulf AR15/AR10! Yes! THERE IS NO "RIGHT REASON" FOR THIS ROUND! Sometimes I just want to prove to myself that it can be done.

I'm going to marry a Beowulf casing and a bullet from a Barrett 50cal (after a little work on the lathe). Maybe "a little work" getting this just right, but it's just work and time right.

But the bullet and case are too long for an AR15. Can a Beowulf barrel (if the AR15) be threaded to a AR10 upper? Are the threads the same?

Thanks for any other help in this build/idea!!

I know, neck a Beuwolf down to .22 for use in the AR...:p

But seriously, AR barrels dont thread in, they use a barrel nut. What .50bmg bullet do you plan on testing? I'm not trying to be rude, but your use of terminology leads me to believe that you're not very experienced with this sort of thing. Developing a load is very dangerous if you dont know what you are doing...:scrutiny: Please be careful. We want you to keep your eyes/face/hands.

If your intent is to load long bullets and just need the magazine lent then if you can attach the barrel it will probably work out, but I think you might have to make your own gas tube. I'm also not sure about the seating depth of an AR barrel in the upper...10 and 15 could have different seating lengths.

You are right as rain! I do not know what I am doing. There will be a long learning curve, that is one of the things that I'm looking forward to enjoying! If you know of any "AR build it tech" books that you know are helpful I would gladly listen! As for the danger, I WILL HAVE THIS GUN CHECKED OUT AS WELL AS THE ROUND BY "REAL" GUNSMITH! I'm not that stubborn... well...

What you have planned will not work.

An AR-10's Barrel extension OD is 1.188" and an AR-10's barrel is threaded 1"-16.

An AR-15's Barrel extension OD is 0.998" and the barrel threads are 13/16-16.

None of the parts will interface with each other.

Can I assume you don't have a lathe?

Then you'll need a custom AR-10 barrel. Either have someone make you a custom AR-10 barrel extension (with 13/16-16 barrel threads) and turn a .50 Beowulf AR-15 barrel into it. Or just a AR-10 barrel chambered in .50 Beowulf.

Of course then you have to figure out what you're going to do for a bolt. .50 Beowulf has a rebated rim and uses a 7.62x39 (or 6.5 Grendel) bolt (or more properly: that size bolt). To my knowledge no one makes one of those that fits in an AR-10 bolt carrier.

The rim diameter of the .50 Beowulf case is smaller than the rim diameter of the 7.62X51. So someone will have to machine you a custom AR-10 bolt to hold the cartridge.

What kind of powders are you going to run to push the 750gr bullet at what speeds? .50 Beowulf has a kinda weird gas set-up anyway for an AR because it's running slow bullets at low speeds (for the AR system). Add in the extra mass of an AR-10 carrier, and that much more bullet and I honestly couldn't tell you where to even begin gassing the rifle. Maybe an adjustable block turned all the way down, then turned up slowly a round at a time till it cycles. Gas Port size would be a shot in the dark for me, I don't get that into weird AR variants.

After looking up the 510 it does seem I'm very late to this party. By the way, that's a Greaat looking and fun gun! And I want two!

Don't feel bad, "old" is the new, new.

The latest and greatest, 300 blk has been around for decades, you just need a catchy name and some cash to promote it.
