Beretta 92

I love the DA/SA guns, and to me, with practice, I don't find the different controls a bother (going from Beretta style to CZ style to Sig style and back). Once I become comfortable with the gun, I can put it away and rotate out, and when I pick it up again it's like my hand "knows" it. Perhaps a lot has to do with me being lefthanded, I don't really sweep anything with my thumb, it's a contortion of my index finger. I keep the thumb and other fingers the same, sounds awkward but I'm used to it.

Perpetuating misinformation doesnt help here. It went off in his pants because he was grabbing for it and pulled the trigger. Not because the gun was unsafe.

Just like that dancing FBI guys gun didnt go off when he dropped it, but when he was panic grabbing for the gun and pulled the trigger, it did go off.

That same result could very well happen with a lot of other guns. The lesson there is, let the gun drop and dont panic grab at it. And that goes for any of them.

And with anything, its usually not the guns fault when something goes wrong. Maybe if people would bother to learn to properly handle the guns they choose to handle, there would be less of the scary stuff.

.

I doubt even the worst panic -grab, in the history, of man could cause a Beretta 92 DA to go off, if the de-cocker were not engaged, these puppies have about a 17 pound DA pull.

Id take that bet. :)

Ive seen a number of guns of all types, with all types of safeties, that were supposed to be safe in the hands of idiots, proven wrong.

Ive seen a number of SIG's and a few Berettas reholstered without being decocked first too, by people under stress and/or not paying attention. You cant assume that just because a gun has a bunch of safeties, or you think its safer, that it will actually be so, especially if you arent.

I have a bunch of Glocks, SIG's, Beretta's, and a few others, and shoot them all regularly, and pretty much interchangeably, and have never had an issue switching back and forth between them, or any safety issues doing so. Proper gear and handling, and theres no reason you should have an issue with any of them.

People do stupid things, all the time, dont blame the gun for it, put the blame where it belongs.

And if you dont have a Beretta, by all means, get one. They are great guns and good, soft, easy shooters. The DA trigger is just something to learn if you're not used to it, and youll be a better shooter overall, once you do learn it.

Is that what we're talking about, here, just the LCD, of misguided idiots ?

Do the 'well trained professionals" who have had NDs (or ADs, if you prefer) with glocks, on video {offhand, IIRC, most prominently, a police chief, at a LGS, and a DEA agent in front of a classroom full of kids, comes to mind} come under this label ?

I've had a couple of them and respect them as reliable accurate pistols. If I were issued one I'd carry it with confidence, but if spending my money there are other guns I just like better.

Why dont you start another thread on it and it can be beat to death again there. :)

A batch of early 92s with came in a while ago. I looked at them but concluded that if I want to crunch-tick, I have a nice Sig Sauer P226. And the really early frame safety gun was not worth managing the Marengoni low left magazine catch.

In conclusion, it’s really growing on me. Look forward to getting in more trigger time, buying more mags, and purchasing a spare 92 in the future.

I've had a 92FS for quite a while now. It's a great gun. I even carried it for a while in an IWB holster. It's the gun I used to train up the Mrs. on handgun fundamentals. I have he .22LR conversion kit for mine as well. It is a great platform for all around hand gunning. I'm sure you will enjoy it and it will serve you well for a long time to come.

Wow, I didn’t know there was a 22 conversion for the 92. That’s cool

Now that the military contract is gone, there are and will be lots of very cool Beretta 9x series guns out there. Enjoy the hunt.

I sure hope so. Although I wouldn't want the rattle cans I was used to being issued.

I thought I had replied on this thread, but apparently not...

I love the 92 platform. I have owned 28 Beretta 92 variants over the past 25+ years (and almost 40 Berettas in total).

The gun just feels right in the hand....

My M9A3 is my favorite Beretta I have. It is 1 from the very first batch of M9A3s they made in MD prior to their move to TN.

The M9A3 is very likely my next one.

Never understood complaints about the safety. It's a DA auto, it doesn't even need one and I choose to ignore them 99% of the time.
I didn't mind it until I deactivated the trigger clearing a malfunction during a match. You can train around it but it IS a potential issue and it IS in the way compared to pistols without levers on the slide. The G conversion fixes part of the issue but they don't make them in stainless as far as I know. I don't like Inox 92s with black bits.

I own a 96A1 and 92 Compact without a rail. Both to me are the pinnacle of stock DA/SA pistols. If I had to choose one handgun from my collection to take to a gunfight, it may very well be the 96A1. I shoot it that well.

I learned to shoot center fire handguns on an M9 and P226 and DA/SA for me is very natural.I own several striker fired pistols and I do see why people find them so easy to shoot. If I teach a new shooter on a Glock, a Beretta 92 or P226 is almost impossible to learn, ditto for a revolver. Still in the back of my mind I always feel like a striker fired pistol is an ND waiting to happen.

I had a Wilson/Beretta 92 Brig Tac that I recently let go. My CZ Shadow 2 made the Beretta look like a mediocre gun for me, and a less than optimal option. So I traded it towards a CZC A01-LD.

The 92 series guns are classics and very nice shooters though.

I recommend a 92X Performance.

From a quality standpoint, it blows away the M9A3 and it’s also built in Italy where Berettas should be. All the high end models came out of Italy. That’s where they do their best work.

92X is nice. I like the sights and threaded barrel out of the box on the A3 better.

Are all the X series Italian made?

No they aren’t

I’m only saying the 92X Performance is a far nicer gun than the A3, granted they are different. However, if it’s just for range use, the extra weight and better trigger should be welcome. The entire gun is fitted much nicer also with superior attention to detail.

I personally don’t put value on threaded barrels, but I know some do.

I had planned to get a 92X Performance at first. But many people have had issues with them at the Beretta Forum. I've decided not to get one for now.

Yeah I saw some of that. Appears to be sorted now. Mine is rock solid and a nice a Beretta as any others I own.
