There have been several short threads on the Beretta Pico. Some folks know I'm wanting one of these and have been reading and researching them for some time as I'm a Beretta lover in general and the Pico concept appeals to me.

Anyway, my LGS/Shooting Range Buddy told me today that they have 2 coming from the distributor and the very first one has my name on it - they have not been release or shipped but his distributer says they expect them in stock and to be shipping very soon.

Like within a couple days/weeks. Obviously I'm guardedly excited.

Cool! I will start checking! I will be going up N. and I have a few items I want to get! That's one. and a CZ 75b!

Better to delay a launch than to rush through a launch regardless when the product isn't ready.

Since they delayed it this long, I'm betting it's fixed now, because if it wasn't, they'd continue to delay it or maybe even cancel it. They're clearly not concerned with getting it out on any certain date.

I do not know the reason for the delay but I do not think Beretta really is worried about it or cares. I think the company has been around so long and has such deep pockets that the Pico is just another project to them and it gets here when it gets here.

As far as buying a 1.0 release I feel it is just part of the 21st century. Manufacturers use us as Beta Testers all the time...I don't mind. Software folks do it, automobile manufactures do it. I'll take my chances on the Pico having owned several Beretta handguns over the years and loved them all. Some were not perfect but I get along with Beretta style and engineering. Hopefully the Pico will not be released massively flawed but nothing surprises me with modern guns. I'm mostly interested in the .32 drop in option and hopefully the .32 barrel will not be long behind actual delivery.

Beretta probably is second guessing it since the Glock 42 came out. Not a chance in hell it's going to be as nice. The Nano borders on being junk.

Vodoun..... Beta Testers?! Microsoft taught us all to accept less than perfect and stand overnight in line waiting to purchase the solution to the problems they sold us! LOL! I wouldn't say Beretta is doing that, (least wise not like Remington did with their R51-which I wanted so badly). But, I definitely agree with your 'deep pockets' philosophy. I think we saw that from them when, IMHO, they really didn't care to take care of all those Beretta Tomcat owners, (with the cracked frames). I sold my Inox before it may have cracked and I've been suspicious of Beretta ever since.

The Nano is Beretta's first striker fired pistol and I think they were surprised by the FTF/FTE problems found in some gen 1 units. Being unique, people either love or hate the Nano. I have a Px4 Storm myself and love it.

LOL! Really?

I may not be a total expert on guns but I do know IT. If anyone in IT who is in a position of power to make final decision goes and deploys 1.0 technology, they would not be in IT or a position of power for very long.

Would any LE agency go with a 1.0 release of a firearm? For a range toy, sure. But for a CC weapon, no freakin way.

I'm not in IT but at the top end of the AV arena - I have been deploying 1.0 versions of some pretty expensive equipment on the orders of my Bosses who are all salesmen. Been doing it for 41 years.

I guess I'm a dope for deploying 1.0 versions but the clients will have nothing else and if we don't give them the "latest greatest" and make it go, we'll be out of business. And yes a lot of it has glitches and problems. S&W, Glock, Beretta, and Springfield Armory (and others) have released firearms that, after a tune up and revision or two, ended up being fantastic. Why they rushed them to market I have no idea.

But it seems common place today in a variety of fields. I have been waiting on the Pico for 2 years and if it's an 1.0 and I have to deal with it I'll....deal with it. :)

I do every day. I like to expect perfection right out 'da box first time but I see less and less of that every day.

I'm really puzzled about the Nano-is-junk trope. I have heard the rumors on the forums, and there must be some genuine issues since even Beretta fanboys are mixed on the gun, but mine has been flawless with over 2,000 rounds downrange. We're talking aluminum, brass and steel in weights from 90gr up to 147gr, with zero failures. Build wise I feel it's better than a Glock and ran better than my Gen 1 G22. I feel the trigger is better, too. The first really compact striker gun to better the trigger of the Nano to me is the Ruger LC9s.

I am thinking of getting the LC9s to maybe replace my Nano not due to any issue but because it's 20% thinner. But I seriously doubt I would part with the Nano- it has been flawless to date.

If the Pico ever truly does show up I'll be waiting to fondle one. Even though I'm no fan of the .380 I'd consider it as a BUG.

I have one on back order at the LGS and Dude asked me earlier this week if I still wanted one.....and I do so I said yes. I have a deposit on one and mine will be the first one in to the store. :)

I'll wait as long as it takes but I'm breaking out in hives now that someone has said they have seen an Email that they will be shipping. Personally I can't wait...

Haven't carried a .380 in awhile, but am intrigued by the Pico. As for buying 1.0, if it is something I really want and can afford, whatever it is, I certainly will. If no one buys 1.0 there will never be a 1.1. If it's a massive launch I may wait until prices come down, but if it's something that won't continue to be produced if not selling good from the start I'll get it as quickly as I can if I really want it.

I think a significant number of folks originally interested in the Pico may have just lost interest or moved along...the release of the Pico was imminent and announced over 2 years ago and then at SHOT this year reps told us it'd be available way before now and it didn't happen. :what:

I'm a Beretta lover from way back and I just plain like the way Beretta builds a gun so I'll wait for how ever long it takes...but I think Beretta's Pico has been shoved way onto the back burner by stuff like the G42 which I have (my Wife has) and I think is absolutely *THE* .380 pistol to beat for some time to come.

I'm still mostly interested in the Pico for it's touted "drop in" .32 option. The Pico in .380 against the G42? That's a comparison/test I'd love to try myself and I'm willing to shuck out the price to try both side by side with my handloads. I'm anxious but committed to waiting as long as it takes...there is nothing currently that I can find that makes me think Beretta is releasing the Pico any time soon. Just rumor so far....

Edit: OK, I was wrong...I'm finding other places saying their Pico pistols should be in stock on Thursday 10/10 - https://www.facebook.com/GunsNGearAsheville

I'm drooling....better check with my LGS buds tomorrow! :D

The biggest change to me that works against the Pico isn't competition from guns like the .380 Glock- it's the expansion in the field of truly small 9mms. With the LC9s and LCR in 9mm just from Ruger, those guns alone would take some carry time away from a Pico if I had one. While they're not as small as the Pico they're small enough to lead me to consider carrying them instead.

Off topic but being a 9mm aficionado I used to agree...shooting a few teeny tiny 9mm's cured that opinion as did shooting the G42 with hot handloads walking up near the bottom of 9mm performance.

Many folks (like myself) experience "diminishing returns" with more powerful calibers in smaller and smaller pistols...the recoil and follow up for some of us becomes a show stopper. I'd rather triple tap in a 4" group at 21' with a hot .380/.32 than have a tiny 9mm/.45 "Pocket Rocket" pistol that sterilizes me with recoil and prohibits fast accurate follow ups.

As much of a lover of 9mm as I am, I strongly feel that a 9mm the size of say a G42 or so becomes less desirable than a .380 pistol the same size because the extra power results in a proportionate increase in recoil that becomes too much to handle unless one is larger and shoots enough/trains enough to overcome that disadvantage. We reach a point where smaller/more powerful becomes less effective than smaller/concealed and a little less power but highly controllable.

For some folks like me.....I'm hoping the Pico, even in .380, conforms to this observation for me.

I pocket carry and carrying that 9mm snub nose revolver would be easy peasy. However, the LC9 sized guns just don't fit in my pockets. The .380 sized pocket autos almost always fit in any pants pocket I have without having to be careful about what pants to purchase at the store.

But, that's just me. :D

Well....with as much trouble we have had getting this one released and shipped I wouldn't be surprised if the ".32 drop in option" touted originally either got dropped or may be some time coming.

I really don't know how to assess desire to have this option. Most places I have been the .32 is DOA and "unsuitable" for SD and this is definitely marketed as a CC pistol. Then again I know an awful lot of folks who are .32 aficionados and would love a .32 this size in a polymer frame, locked breech, and DAO. I'd say I'm more concerned with getting a Pico right now after a 2+ year wait - rather have .32 than another .380 but you can bet I'll have this one to the range and comparing it in the hand to my Glock 42 the next range visit.

I'd be willing to bet the .32 drop in barrel will be released "at a later date", as special order, or has been dropped but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
