Beretta PX4 Compact opinions?

Alright, so I'm thinking of picking one of these up in the near future. I haven't had the chance to try it yet, which I will of course do before buying it, but what are your guys' experiences with it?

I currently own a SIG P228 and a Glock 23, and like them both a lot.

I was interested in the design of the PX4 for a while, and was waiting for a midsize between the full sized and the subcompact. Now that it is out, I'm seriously considering buying one. They seem to be at a reasonable price, right on par with the Glocks, and seem to be good quality weapons.

Anybody carry it? Anything good? Anything bad?

I have the full size and sub compact PX4.


I like then so well I was going to buy the Compact when it became available. A couple months ago I intended buying the Compact at a gun show. When I looked at the gun I changed my mind because there was so little difference from the full size. I didn't intend carrying it.

A number of people have shot my guns and like them. I'd guess you will like the Compact.

I have the PX4 compact and love it. When they first came out, a batch of them had some bad springs (basically too tight), and the slide would not cycle fully, leading to failure to feeds and stovepipes for a lot of people. Beretta fairly quickly sent out new replacement springs, and my gun has been flawless since.

My take on it is that it's a little big for some conceal and carry purposes, particularly in hot climates. It's a double-stack mag, and it's pretty beefy. To me, the gun seems like a slightly smaller full-size gun. But I find the size just perfect for my purposes. It's big enough to treat like a full-size home defense gun, and small enough that, yeah, you can conceal and carry it if you want to. On some downsides, It has these big ambi slide releases and big ambi decocker/safeties that jut out a good bit, which are uncomfortable when you rack the slide when it is not on safe mode. The amount they stick out also contributes to the conceal and carry challenges. The slide serrations don't help a whole lot with grip control to rack the slide.

But those are my only criticisms with the gun, and they're minor.

My take on it is that I feel Beretta designs guns for a military standpoint, so it's not necessarily supposed to be made as an ideal conceal and carry gun, it's made to be a take-to-war gun, and it can do that beautifully. It's reliable, accurate, has nice soft recoil, and feels great in the hand.

The first pull in DA is somewhat heavy and long, but smooth. The pulls in SA are very light, and, well, like butter. I've had friends fire it who rave about how little recoil the gun has compared to other 9mms.
