I looking for a good cheap 9mm that's small and I'm trying to keep it under $400 out the door. Right now I'm leaning toward the bersa Thunder compact 9mm because I really have read anything to bad about it. I can't find that much info on the beretta 9000. Is threr anything else out there. I was thinking about SR9 but its jsut to new and out of my price range. I have a XD 45 now and I'm happy with that but I'm looking for something small that I can carry and shoot that is fairly cheap to shoot. Thanks guys.

Just bought a Bersa 380 (regular not CC) and have been flirting with the idea of the 9mm myself. I'd like to see others' response to this as well. I like the Bersa I have and we (wife and I... it's her gun technically) have talked about getting a 9mm for plinking and the price is right on those guns.

Dunno how much help my $.02 was, but you got bumped to the top of the list!

My wife has the Bersa THunder .380 and we both love it. Seems very reliable so far (400 rds or so).

I have BOTH the Bersa Thunder 380 and the Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact.

I love both guns, but my favorite (and my daily carry weapon) is the Thunder 9 UC. It has a 13+1rd ammo capacity unless you buy a California version, in which case it's 10+1, but the 10rd and 13rd mags are interchangeable.

The 380 is by far the most common Bersa in the USA right now, but the 9mm model (full size) is used by the Argentine police and military. Mine has been very reliable so far. It eats any FMJ or JHP ammo I've tried in it so far with no complaints. Accuracy is good, too.

It has an easy to operate ambidextrous thumb safety that also functions as the decocker. When you put in the magazine and rack the slide, the Thunder 9UC will be cocked and ready to fire with a single action trigger pull.

Like it does on the 380 model, operating the safety switch on the 9mm model decocks the hammer, making your first trigger pull into a double action pull.

UNLIKE the 380 model, if you wanted to carry the 9mm model with the safety on, you could, because the safety lever is in a very convenient place where you can flip it off with your thumb while maintaining a defensive grip on the pistol. It's much easier to operate from a defensive grip than the decocker/safety on the 380. Of course, I carry with the weapon decocked and the safety off, because the DA first trigger pull is safe enough for me.

If you went with the Beretta, you would probably be getting a good weapon, but I personally would buy the Bersa again if I had to make the decision over again. I love everything about it. Even after I bought my HS2000/XD, I still prefer the Bersa as my primary carry weapon.

I have a Beretta 9000SF as well in .40 and it's accurate and reliable. If the grip fits you it's a nice gun and it's a Beretta...

What do you guys think about Taurus Millennium Pro 9mm ? This is about the same price range as the bersa. Does anyone know the warranty's on the bersa or taurus ? Thanks.

I don't know about Taurus, but Bersas have a very good warranty. If anything's wrong with your gun, you can send it to one of their service centers (they have several in the USA, not just in Argentina), and they will fix it for free.

It's kinda like the Keltec free repair service, except that BERSA owners rarely have a reason to send their guns back. :)

I have both the Thunder .380 and more recently the Thunder UC 9. Both have been quite accurate and reliable. I had one FTF on the last round of a mag in the .380 while doing a rapid fire, but not again. I have fired about 500 rounds of WWB through each with that one FTF but otherwise totally realiable.
These Bersa's are a real bargain and I've been recommending them to everyone that's interested.

i also have the bersa thunder .380 and haven't had a FTF or FTE in yet) over 1,000 rounds). if the quality of the thunder 9mm uc is anything like the thunder .380 then it's a safe bet.
