Best .357/.38 defensive load?

Since JHPs are banned why not go for the FBI load a 158 SWCHP, it has a proven track record and no jacket. If it is HPs that are banned then I would go with a 158 SWC light magnum load.

The Dark Knight,
Did you miss the link I provided in Post #6? Those Buffalo Bore rounds are probably a good choice for you, what do you think? Like I said above, 1005 fps from a 4" barrel is no joke and the bullet is already full caliber width, no need to worry about expansion...

A SWC would also do a good job. The sharp shoulder is designed to cut through anything it hits. Elmer Keith was a smart man.

What ammo do the LEO use on duty? What about over penetration vs a hollow point round, they (NJ) don't care about the public safety? A 9mm will go through one person and keep on going. NJ will want you shooting a .32 auto so others wont get shot when the round exits your intended target ( bad guy) or use a sling shot lol

Just thowing this out there for brainstorming:

The .44 Special is great for situations like this.

Easier to find a good .44 DA revolver than a new job or home state, at any rate.

Failing that, buffalo bore wadcutter. And a backup gun.

I guess it varies by department. Surely hollow point ammo. Its fine for the police, just not us lowly subjects of Emperor Corzine.

Actually, it just occurs to me that Remington makes a +P LSWC just like the FBI load, same soft lead, but no hollow point. If you can find it, that might be a good option.

38 Special (+P) R38S14 158 LEAD SWC

(the hollow point is the 38 Special (+P) R38S12 158 LEAD HP)

They also make the same thing in .357, R357M5 158 LEAD SWC, but that one is going to be a deep penetrating beast.

FWIW.
