I am looking for a small autoloader to use in my Smartcarry holster.

It needs to be very compact and reliable, but also powerful. I currently own an Ed Brown 1911 Kobra Carry 4" but it is too big for my Smartcarry holster. I also have an H&K P2000SK .40 LEM and it fits well, but I am looking for something else.

I have been researching and handling the Glock 27 and the M&P Compact .40 / .357 SIG. The M&P has a nice grip to it but it is slightly larger than the G27. I have never had a chance to shoot the M&P and my local gun ranges do not have any to test fire. I used to own a Glock 27 but sold it because the grip did not feel right. I have also never shot the .357 SIG (can't find any ranges with this caliber in the pistols I have been looking at).

Both the M&P and G27 worry me a little because I would like to carry the pistol with a round in the chamber and the Smartcarry has the pistol aimed right at my nuts...

It needs to be in either the .40 S&W or the .357 SIG. I like the ballistics and magazine capacity of both calibers.

All ideas and comments (please keep them positive :)) are much appreciated! Thank you and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I own a Kahr MK40 but it is a pretty heavy little gun for only holding 5+1 rounds. I don't trust the polymer Kahr pistols but that is just my opinion.

Why? Have you had any problems? I always thought Kahr pistols were/are some of the most reliable out there.

I have not had any problems with them - I have never owned a polymer one. Friends who work at a well-known gun store near me informed me that they get many polymer Kahr pistols back because of QC issues. When I held one at the store and took it apart it was clear that the QC wasn't up to par.

I carry a M&P 40c everyday and love it. I have shot about 500 rounds through it, and it will shoot whatever I feed it. I just wish they made it in .45. I was looking at the M&P 40c, the G27 and G30. When I bought the M&P40c S&W was running a $50 rebate and 2 free mags. Now I believe it is either one or the other. The other deciding factor was that the gun store was running a special if you bought any Walther or S&W autoloader that you got entered in a drawing for a full size M&P. I think that both brands make exceptional guns, and a G30 is still on my want list.

I carry an M&P 45fs with Crimson Trace LaserGrips and an Insight XTI Procion weapon light plus an extended 14-round spare magazine in my SmartCarry holster. I just to get the large size SmartCarry. :)

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I have decided to go with the M&P Compact .40. I shot one in a 9mm today and it felt great.

I carry my M&P 9C. It is a really great weapon. I prefer the 9mm over the 40 however. You get more ammo, cheaper ammo for practice, and less recoil. The 9mm is very effective with modern defensive ammo and when WWB comes in packs of 100 it means I'll shoot it more and have an edge in proficiency also. If you prefer the 40 the M&P is also a great choice though.

Sitting here typing this, getting ready to go out for breakfast. Glock33 on my hip. Like American Express-don't leave home without it.

You can get the SmartCarry in several different sizes. You can also custom fit one to a particular gun by using safety pins or a little sewing thread. Cut pieces from a old milk jug in the size and shape you want and form it by heating and bending then put it in with duct tape.
I use the large version two-gun model unaltered to carry my XD-45c and it just disappears.
You can carry just about any auto easily in these or revolvers with 4" barrels. You can also fiddle them to a custom fit for all kinds of guns.

Walther P99C In My Smartcarry

I shot the Glock 26, M&P Compact and the Walther P99 Compact all in 9mm and choose the Walther because:

I prefer DA/SA in a semi-auto

I found it to be the most accurate of the 3

The P99 was the lightest of the 3, weight empty 18.7 oz.

The P99 was the most expensive of the 3 and worth every penny

I liked the P99 compact so much that I just bought the full size

Walther P99c is constantly in my smartcarry

When I go hiking in winter in New England I wear my smartcarry on the outside of my pants with the holster on my backside, I stuff it with my Walther P99c with 16 round mag. and my cell phone.
