Best bang for the buck deal on .40 S&W pistol?

If you care anything for accuracy, stay far away from the Sigma. If your just looking for something super cheap to have for home defense it will serve that purpose. The only reason mine isn't sold is because it was a recent gift. Sure it can hit a man sized target at 10 yards. But at 7 yards all of the rounds hit about 8" low and in about a 7" group, I am a good shot. The trigger is very heavy, very long, and has alot of flex. My opinion, Where I live a sigma is $299, Invest the extra money and look at something like a Springfield XD, $400 at one of the local stores.

Recently bought the Ruger SR40. wonderful gun. I always thought Rugers were bulky and ugly. The new SR series guns thin and reay nice looking. Sweet trigger too. Built from ground up for .40, not a rebarreled 9 mm. Softer recoil than my glock 22.

i have worked at cabelas in the firearms, sometimes customers 3 deep at the gun counter. when someone asked for a inexpensive auto pistol in at leat 9mm,i would show them the sigma, and s&w would always have a 50$ rebate.so a low cost brand new pistol.although when we looked at them the trigger was somewhat stiff.but for around 300$ with 2 clips and case was a pretty good bang for the buck gun.if the customer dident like the brand new sigma i would tell them to look at our used gun section. and there was 100 's of them also, all kinds. used glocks for around 400$ and some used s&w revolvers also starting at around 400$.. also there are the used Taurus's for even less.

Just to throw another idea out there - if you watch Gunbroker, the Sig P250 2sum will show up from time to time for $400. This is technically one gun, though you swap out the firing control between the full size and subcompact frames. For the money, it is a heck of a deal.

I recommend a Smith "third generation" Model 4006 police trade-in. They are still available at between three and four hundred dollars in good condition and it's hard to beat third generation Smiths for reliability, durability and workmanship at any price, imo.

ditto..... the g23 perhaps the number 1 carry gun.,perfect size and powerfull .40 cal.,mine is a gen 4 with a ghost trigger.

Personally, I like the metal frame guns - also at Summit are S&W 4043s for $295. LE trade-ins.

So here's what I ended up with. S&W 4003TSW.

Got it with 3 mags for $299. I just couldn't talk myself into a Sigma, and I like the Gen III Smiths more than the S&W99.

Looks like you did well-wish we had used stuff like that in my neck o' the woods!

I have a 4013TSW-told folks I had to have at least one shiny gun, but was informed it wasn't shiny. I told 'em to me, it was (guns are just 'sposed to be black)! :D

Only thing I don't like is that darn slide mounted, backward safety! :banghead:

You did well. The last time I saw any of those for sale around here they wanted $350 & they had Atlanta PD marked on the slide.

Here's another vote for a Gen 3 Smith and Wesson. My 4006 is the only 40 S&W I really enjoy shooting.

For a quality pistol with a life time warranty and on the cheap you can't beat a Sigma SV-40. YMMV.. But still can beat them...

The S&W was a great choice.

I decided I needed a 40 S&W a couple months ago because I'm flush with ammo and didn't have a gun to shoot it in. Ran into this older FN for $250.00 and decided I better bring it home. Box, papers, two mags and the gun hardly looks to have been out of the box. Quickly becoming one of my favorites.
