Have a look at the Beretta Px4 storm and the sig p2220 ( check them at Buds) they have very good prices

Walther P99/SW99( basically the same pistol) or HK USP All fantastic pistols. Walther has great ergonomics/pointability. USP exudes "build quality" IMHO

Does it have to be used? I just bought a NIB Glock 23 Gen 4. I am skeptical about anything that gets a lot of hype, so I was reluctant, but the gun will not malfunction. I have put the cheapest wal mart crap through it that I could find and it will not fail with 165 or 180 grain. Groups are no larger than my fist at 25-30 feet which is beyoind avg defensive range. I paid 420 for it. Comes with 3 13rd mags and two extra back straps which I haven't had to use because it fits great right out of the box. I have a Kahr CW40 that I like a lot as well, but it takes a minimum of 200 rds to break it in and it likes heavier bullets (180). The Glock requires no break in. The G23 G4 is my favorite gun out of all of my guns, rifles and shotguns included. I got a good deal, but its worth every penny of 550. That is pretty cheap insurance to have my wife and four children protected with a gun that I know will fire every time I pull the trigger.

Ditto. Love this piece.

If you can find a new or used Ruper P944. They aren't making them anymore unfortunately. :(

My wife has a SIG 2022 in 9mm. She loves it. The trigger leaves me "Meh." They go on sale at Turners fairly often for $399. Accurate enough & combat brick reliable. Probably the best bang for the buck buying new if you don't mind polymer. It's very light, so in .40 S&W my guess is that the recoil would be a handful.

Walther 990 aprox 350.00 with 3 mags on various gun auction sites. I have one, carried often shot little. Accurate, quality, reliable

Beretta Px4 40 or Sig P229 or 226 40's

...

Beretta Px4 40 nearly 6rys old, just over 11K flawless rounds using either 165gr or 180gr FMJ and 180gr JHP's..

Very nice/smooth DA action right out of the box with a clean SA break which both just get better and better with use or dry-firing..

In the 400's NIB..

OR a used Sig *P229 or 226 40 - *both mine, upper top right and lower left bottom, were bought used for 600 and less - and now have 6K on one and just over 7K on the other - both flawless, same ammo mentioned above.

Either make/model, Beretta Px4 40 or Sig P229 or 226/40's are soft "balanced" quick/natural fall back on-target that gives excellent accuracy IMO along with weak handed or one handed shooting with reliability even if wrist limping.

Both make/models just keep on shooting and both shoot any type ammo.

OMMV,

Luck,

Ls

I mentioned earlier my police trade-in USP 40 and it is an excellent HD pistol. However, it's a bit large to carry. Even though it's my cheapest gun by far, the pistol that is most often in my holster is a Kahr CW40. They can be had new for about $400, and it is my thinnest and lightest 40 or 45 pistol. I hardly even know it's there. A plus for me is, even I normally don't like DAO triggers, I shoot this one very well.

Was my unissued LEO trade-in G23 with less than 50 rounds down the pipe, 3 new mags, mag loader, paper work and other goodies for less than 300 bux before taxes a good deal?:D

The Sig SP2022. Extremely reliable, comfortable to shoot, readily available inexpensive mags.

The Smith and Wesson SD40 VE (not a sigma SW40VE) is the best thing going right now in .40

The only complaint I would have is the long trigger reset. If that long reset is not your cup of tea then you can disregard.

Just dont blow it off as another sigma, it is much improved.
