I've got a Para Ordnance 14 45 LDA that I need to get a holster for, it will mainly be used for PPC service matches, but I would like to shoot some more action pistol (of what type I'm not sure). Maybe even carry concealed, but only when a full size is possible, like winter. I don't care if it's $30 or $130 but if it's the latter I want it to be worth the extra cash. What's every ones experience with different holsters? I should probably say I'm partial to molded style holsters.

Milt Sparks... the gold standard of fine holstermaking, and reasonably priced at about $110+/- depending on the style. The down side is a 5-6 month waiting list. The time flies!

+1 to Countryboy. Milt Sparks if you can get one. I have seen some on ebay. Otherwise its a half year wait.

For that P14 you may have to have a holster with a wider throat than a standard 1911 holster.

I have to add a vote for the Milt Sparks. You can advoid the wait by going to Lighting Arms they usually have some in stock.

Brigade leather also make a great holster.

Does this mean if I'm ordering a nice IWB holster for my Ultra Carry II, I should specify that I will be using thin grips on it???

Check out www.ttgunleather.com as well. They make some nice stuff *almost* on par with Milt Sparks, but with a much better wait time (2-4 months?).

And yet another +1 for Milt Sparks.

Go with the VersaMax II for IWB, or the Axiom for OWB. They are essentially the same holster except made for the different modes of carry.

I've got both, and wouldn't carry my Commander any other way.

No, but you're only talking about the stocks in this case. IIRC, with the P14 the frame itself is thicker close to the grip area. This would be more significant I would think. I'm not saying it would be an issue with all holsters (and it might not be an issue with any), but I would check into it before ordering leather that is meant for a single stack 1911.

Milt Sparks VM2. There is a 6 month wait if you order it from them directly or you can get one from www.lightningarms.com for a little more. I'd rather pay $30 more to have it in three days.

I just called Lightning Arms to see if they had any VM2s in stock (for my 3" 1911). They have a few of the natural brown color left, but no black! And they are asking $150, which is a $45 premium over the Sparks-direct price...I'm tempted, but will probably pass due to the fact that money is tight these days.

I just thought I'd let everyone know that they do have a few brown ones left for 3" 1911s! (Sorry to hijack your thread!!!)

D.M. Bullard Holsters

For the past 5 months I've been carrying my full sized 1911 in a D.M. Bullard Combat holster with Bodyguard. It rides high and tight and I can easily forget that I'm carrying it is so comfortable - even when driving. I wear it at the 4 o'clock position on a Boston Leather gun belt.

He also offers IWB holsters for those who like to tuck-it-in. Take a look and save a bunch of bucks.
